Not sure if I should post this here - but as stated in the title, my R1 doesn't like to rev past 11k....

It's a 99 model so red line is at about 12.5k

Only had it a few days, did an oil change as soon as I got it, cause she looked like she needed a bit of tlc.

Any thoughts on what might be wrong - if anything??? Goes well upto 11k!

I don't think it actually hits a rev limiter, just seems like the torque completely disappears after 11k... Has been dyno'd at some point and rejetted, so maybe just set up that way?

Redline rpm is 11750 for this model not 12500. About 11000 is where power tails off pretty quickly. Where did you get 12500 from?

Maybe more likely a model thats been set up to go to canada
but yes the power will go if theres no more torque

Does it stil want to rev out just no pulling power?

I'm with Sugi here (battery) and I would check the air filter to make sure it isn't gummed up with small animals and insect bits. It could be so many things but they is where I would start.

Look at these Dyno charts:

That motor is pretty much over by 11000rpm making about the same torque it does at 4000rpm. If it is breaking down at high revs that may be a different story but if it just runs out of power then that is how these motors are. It is a mid range motor and is best short shifted slightly. Enjoy it - it is one of the best street motors ever made.

Thanks for replies - agree with some of the responses, apparantly there's no more after 11k that's just the way mine's been set up...

I was a little confused as the red line starts at just over 12, so thought there was something limiting it... Air filter will get a clean tonight, but nothing to worry about as she goes bloooooody well!

It should be at 11750rpm. Someone may have put a new face on the rev counter. A friend did that with his one so that he could have a white faced rev counter and it was easy to do and looked pretty good.
