There are heaps of these on trademe.
:bye:
I have had mixed review from good to bad about these bikes.
has anyone owned one? if so what was it like?
If not what has everyone heard about these bikes. Are the sound or cheap knock offs like some people say they are?
:confused::confused::confused:

I've got a 2007 model, and it hasn't missed a beat, couldn't have wished for a better first bike.

I'm bigger.
6'4" and 115Kgs.
I absolutely love the riding position, it took a little while to get used to as you lean quite far forward, and it took a couple of weeks for my wrists to get used to it, but I found that it sets me up just right.
Drops into corners like nobody's business, sure it's not as powerful as the early 90's bikes, but for me, it suits perfectly.
Best advice anyone can give is get a test ride, it's the only way to see what's right for you. You can get ideas from their people's opinions, but ultimately, if you have to live with it, you better be damn sure that you test it properly first.
Plus you can do some sweet mods, check out my profile pic.

problem is that the only experience i have riding a bike is the basic handling cert
an i am not confident that i can properly test ride the thing :(

You're basically the right size for one, they're big bastards if nothing else.
Regarding build quality - always a contentious issue. It seems to have got better. A lot of the early GT250's were pissing rust within a year. A lot had their rear shock totally buggered by 18 months. But you're always going to find happy Hyosung owners coming out the woord
You'd want one that was garaged, that's for sure. But I think they're basically sound.

5 months ago I was in exactly the same boat as you.
Never ridden a bike before, had a 3 hour tutorial, then my BHST.
I rode about 15-16 bikes before I settled on the Hyo, it's size was my deciding factor, as everything else felt like a toy to me. I found that the guys in the bike shops were a lot more forgiving to newbie riders asking the same old questions, and wanting to try as many bikes as possible. In fact, they gave me 5 times as much face time than a guy who went and bought a $20,000 Aprilia, because he knew what he was after.
If you also look around, you will find a bike shop that will look after you. Just avoid Motomart in Wellington, they weren't interested in me whatsoever, and made me feel like a dick for asking questions, and like I was wasting their time.
Good luck! and keep us updated.

never mind.:scooter:Don't give up! TELL THEM! Maybe they will take it to the park for you, and you can idle around on the grass in first gear. You will love it after the first 50 meters, I promise! :niceone:
My Wife was scared shitless of her GT250R for the first two weeks, and now She is a seasoned "Learner". If you like it, then buy it - you will not be disapointed.
However, I would go around the bike with a ring-spanner set before I drove it. Some people have reported "loose bits".

All bias aside.
To be fair mate, that GSX looks like a pretty good piece of kit, and about $1K cheaper.

yeah i know i just worry that it will be to light for me. my old man rides and has said that i should go for a heavier bike due to my size.
the question is will the GSX be to light. i will be (once i get my confidence up) be riding this to and fro from work every day about a 60k round trip, and it has motorways that can get quite windy. :devil2:

correction: ring-spanner comment only applies to brand-new off the shop floor. Anything with more than 1,000kms should be fine.

RING SPANNER NOT NEEDED on MINE or 6 others I know of. These were "off the shop floor as well" The other one or two mentioned on here are Isolated cases. Not the norm..... A check of the bike should be a regular practice anyways.
My late 2007 Hyo has like Hubba's not missed a single beat. Comfy position, and handles well. Enough grunt to get me where I want to go, without hassles.
Try one, you will like it...:)

Hey fizbin, I've got a 2008 model and I love it! I'm only 5'4 and weigh in under 60kg and have only just got back on a bike after about 20 years... If I can handle it, you sure should be able to!!
Give it a go, mate. You never know unless you do!;)

there will always be some people that are put off by things that are "different" ie not a honda, yam, kwak ... etc.
personal experience tells me they are a pretty good bike and a bloody good first bike.
like huba guba said youll have to ride the bugger to know for yourself.

They are a great bike for what they are, a 250.
They are a big bike and will easily handle your size. I've been riding mine for six months now and I still smile every time.
Alot of people on these forums will wank on about the power and weight. But they all seem to forget that its only a 250, and most people will sell theirs as soon as they get their full license anyway.

Yeah, I know the smile:yes: The Hyosung had a good write-up in KiwiRider Mag Jan issue too... It was voted Readers Favourite 250 of the Year and the magazine voted it 2nd after the Yamaha SX-4 Scorpio. So it must have a lot going for it. :2thumbsup

The Suzi has sold!!!!!ok, go get a demo ride on a GT250R today, and then get biddin' on that one on TM. Quick, or you will miss out.
Fess up with the bike shop - tell them you have the BHS but don't even have a learners yet, and are not happy with taking it on the road, and you cant really tell by sitting on it and going "brmm, brmm" but can they take it to a grassy park so you can have a putter around in 1st gear.. Asking never hurt anyone.
Or else go see one in-the-flesh. Sometimes thats enough.

I was going for a Suziki or Honda until I test rode a Hyosung 250 GTR and I was very impressed. BTW my last two bikes were a 650 and 600, and I have ridden a few others so I am not new to bikes.
But the racing posture of the GTR killed my old-injury wrist, so I went for a 250 Comet and am really happy with it, especially since it keeps up with all the big bikes (I have been out on numerous group rides with bikes from 700 to 1800 cc).
People make two comments about my bike: "Is it a new bike?" (no, its an '04) and "A 250?! Really? It looks bigger than that!" Fuel economy is great, 80 mpg on trips 100 - 110 kph.

mate im selling my "06" hyo
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Sports/auction-144578448.htm?p=16
and if you are real keen, you can come down to Turangi where the bike is and take it for a ride, theres no traffic to worry about down here and some nice straight bits of empty road to cut your teeth on, i have never had an issue with this bike, it has run sweet, but yes build quality can be an issue but not if you wash and polish her lots :)
