Hi.

I have had my cbf for a few months now and about the only thing bugging me about the bike is its cruising revs. About 6800rpm at 100 was starting to wear a bit thin and on a particularly windy day trying to overtake a van and being basically stuck at 103km/h at the power peak of 8k in fifth I thought enough was enough.

Checking the back pocket and the CFO limited any mods to a not quite motogp budget of $40. What to do?

After a bit of head scratching I figured I would need a larger front sprocket or smaller rear. As the rear is a small 43t and the front a moderate 13t and cheaper I set out to find a 14t front.

Que the helpfull website of bits4bikes. Bam, right there on screen was a 14t sprocket for the cbf. $35 and it was mine.

I went and picked it up the very next day and unleased the tool kit. Off with the old, on with the new, file of the chain guard to fit larger sprocket and a tension of the chain later I was back in action.

What a difference. It has changed the character of the bike by miles. It is much more relaxed cruising at around 6300rpm at 100 in sixth and 7300 in fifth. Fifth is a much more useable gear now, much better for overtaking.

Now for a better exhaust can.

Nice so does it get up to 120 with more ease? How about starting off acceleration? I know what you mean over taking can be a real pain!

It doesn't get there with any more ease it just doesn't rev its nuts off anymore.

Starting acceleration is about the same if not quicker as you can spend longer in each gear.

ffs I had a nice long post about removing the airbox snorkels written and it's now gone.

Long story short

Remove the snorkels. They are under the seat. They are a press fit and glued in. Don't worry about the glue it is easy to get them out and back in. Pull them and put them on a shelf.

Smoother engine. Better sound. Easier idling. More power.

They are rubber tubes that come off the airbox and lead to presumably a high pressure area under the seat. They also help reduce intake noise.

I Just put the old sprocket back on. With the snorkels removed I now prefer the 13t original sprocket.

Removing the snorkels cured a rather annoying vibe I used to feel right at 100. Gone.

Amazing how a stupid pipe can make such a difference to the bike.

Sounds to me like you don't know what your talking about. Yes it does increase the power not by a massive amount obviously, but enough so that when i max it out along the same road on the same day i get 7-10kph more out of the bike top end.

Better still, cut the bottoms out of them and put them back. Sounds better, still get better performance.
