I know nobody who has one.

Are they the toys of the uber rich who have one sitting in the garage just in case they one day want to try and learn to ride?

I have built a few customs in my life. But would not be seen dead on one of these.

I understand that they sell in US. But here in God Zone???

Oh and, who rides them? Have you seen one on the road?

I've never seen anything like that on the road - plus, I'm satisfied with my penis, so I don't need a bike like that.

How do you reach it?? I heard you can get a couple of ribs removed so you can bend far enough???

Who needs autofellation when you've got 22 horses worth of parallel twin vibration waiting in the garage!

Have you heard of Hutt Boyz Choppers (http://http://www.huttboyzchoppers.co.nz/default.asp)?
I see Brendan (one of the partners) riding machines around the Hutt quite often. Not my cup of tea either and I like you I wonder how much of a market there is for these bikes in NZ.
They just have to be toys for the uber rich like you said because they're just so damn impractical for most of our roads there's no way you coud use one for "transport".

Yep, see them fairly regularly here in Manukau, Auckland. You go to any of the fund raising rides and you'll probably see a shiny stretched chopper like that one.

Go to a decent V8 drag meet or car show and you'll see a few in the parking lot.

There's a few home grown models out there for sure.

The guy on his GN125 probably thinks the same when he sees somebody riding past on a M50 or Rune or similar.

It's all relative.j

Just to calrify: I have only admiration for the guy who has built his own custom. Spent countless hours in the garage, had mates to make bits etc. But these that you buy for the price of a years income all ready and blinged up. I just don't get it.

Some people just don't have the know-how or time but would still like an awesome bike. Obvious answer is to buy one already made.

met a guy in tauranga on a new years a couple years back with a beaut shiny brand new custom bike and tried to strike up a convo along the lines of 'wow, how long that take you to build?' at the time, hadn't heard of the custom shops or buying bikes like that, all i knew of was my brother and his mates making their own choppers. the guy just looked at me as he posed by his bike and said 'built? no, kid. this was BOUGHT.'

ugh. how about that guy on deal or no deal who said he wanted the $200,000 so he could buy a real american choppers chopper? what a wanker.

heres a real custom..my brothers '64 triumph saint 650, 42 degrees of rake, 5 foot front forks..almost every damn thing on that bike is custom built and polished by him, he's ridden to taumaranui twice (from new plymouth) and says its the most stupidly comfortable bike, bar the massive vibrations..

yeaurgh. nice!

I like em and think one would be fun for the odd blast.

I have seen one on the road in Owrea and another parked in the viaduct one evening.

Would I pay that kinda money for one ---- umm nope.

the chopper craze is dead or dying: have a look on ebay for big money california stretch choppers going for fuck all compared to their buy price. American Ironhorse has gone bung, and I think RevTech as well.

the custom bike scene now is all baggers and bobbers. and ratbikes.

I would totally have a classic '60's style bobber, but with an Evo motor. They dont have outlandish forks, they usually have front brakes, and they usually go pretty good.

Hank Young's Flying Pan, or some of the Jesse Rook stuff. Or a sucker punch sallys one or something like that. Or something from Exile.

Or when I win the looto/powerball combo this weekend, an Indian bobber from Kiwi:

There is a green one in Dunedin that often goes to the rallies.

I just assumed that most of the recent interest in choppers was being fueled by that Orange County Choppers TV show.

That would be true. That is why a went back to riding a bike. But that show is now more about what they have, not about the bikes they build. Muscle cruiser bikes are the up and coming bikes to buy. Made by jap manufactures in most cases, no waiting time unless you live in Gods own, big vee twins with all the power in the world and have reliability.Phat rear wheels , raked front ends and at a cost that does not break the bank . Plus you can ride these bikes on the road without to many problems.Full of bling . But choppers will always have there place in the US life style.

I dont see what the big deal is. Sure, if the guy had an attitude toward those who built choppers, he's a tool. But some people just love custom bikes, but do not have the time nor the inclination to build one themselves. No different to buying a muscle car that someone else has built.

I also dont consider $35k to be in the realm of the "uber rich".

yeh it was his attitude that bothered me - all i had known till then was people who spent quality time designing and building their own bikes..and he was a bit of a wank about the fact that he had bought it.

it wouldn'tve bothered me that he'd bought a custom if he hadn't been such an arse about it - i can appreciate the kinda work that goes into a bike. it was just the fact that he pretty much acted better than me cos he had bought his custom bike rather than spending quality time making something that was his own.
