Prolly mostly booked out, but you could try the Beach Road Holiday Park.
Virtually next door to the rally site. They have tourist flats & cabins.
For motel/hotel, you would have to go back into Invers. (about 10km?)

My Plan is to head down on the Wednesday and spend a week (Wed-Wed) seeing some of the south island along with the Burt rally in the weekend :)

Me & 3 mates are heading down to Christchurch on Wednesday to meet up with this interesting bike. Looking forward to taking it for a tootle. Hand shifter will be interesting and not as much ground clearance as my Ape but it will be cool.

Will certainly be interesting to see, as to how the vin thing will go well its a small build motorcycle so there is some room there and as its the suspension spring well it could pass but then again the spring out the front like that could be considered a dangerous fitting.

Is it heading down or are you meeting it just to look at it ? I would love to get up close and impersonal with a camera.

New rear gets fitted early next week, nearly everything else is sorted out just a few minor things to do Monday, then the better half and I head out early Wednesday taking the scenic route via the West Coast, I am doing well she has even granted permission to do the crown ranges :Punk:.

We intend breaking the trip there into three chunks, only because I have a habit of stopping and taking photos but nothing is planned except getting to the destination Friday afternoon.

Should you come across a slow travelling silver Duke, or for that matter on stopped on the side of the road with a long haired bloke looking intently through a camera view finder feel free to wave as you go past, perhaps we shall meet on the road.

Hell we are looking forward to this.

thats what i did last year. showed up at the camp site and paid right then and there. you get a cool lanyard which you must wear at all times, and they write your rego on the back. they check the rego against your lanyard when leaving the site. great idea to prevent against theft. only difference between prepaying or paying on site is prepayers get tshirts i think. but you can buy shirts onsite in the beer tent. [as well as heaps of other merchandise]

only major problem i can recall is last year the dunnys blew over during the night. they ended up tying them down, lol. [btw, that wind blew the loos over, but didnt damage any tents!]

Looking forward to all youse jokers and jokeresses coming down here for a fine time. Right now the weather has turned cool but we had 30 degrees a couple of days ago. The forecast for the weekend is good. I like the fact the organisers have huge pavilions for everyone just in case a bit of scots mist blows in.... :D

I'll park my yellow Duc in front of the main tent if anyone wants a spot to meet at. Apart from that I expect to camp somewhere near the goal posts, over by the tree line. Good shelter and peaceful.

Don't know if McJim can make it, we'll see what happens. Santa Parade and two little boys tend to grab his attention.

If anybody needs any help or anything while at the Rally, text or ring me 0274314080.

Looking forward to all youse jokers and jokeresses coming down here for a fine time.

If anybody needs any help or anything while at the Rally, text or ring me 0274314080.

CB and I will be 'Harley-ing' down on Friday arvo (tassles flailing) with a tentative plan of staying at the site Friday night and maybe at CBs friends on the Saturday night....but things can change eh!

Mrs JM and I leave early in the morning for leisurely trip across to the west coast and down through Haast with our planned arrival on site sometime late Friday morning, early afternoon.

Will keep my eyes open for Winston001, scummy etc around the site, I am sure I will not becoming famous due to so random act of insanity on my part in front of some bloke wearing a KR hat carrying a camera.

Looking forward to this.

Got two mates coming down from Chch and Cromwell so will set up with them on Friday afternoon. Beach racing on Friday evening this year.

How about KBers collect around my bike at midday on Saturday? It will be parked in the row outside the pavilion which is reserved for Ducatis, Aprilias......and the occasional HD..... :D Thats assuming I'm not at Teretonga or elsewhere distracted.

Faarg...now I'll have to clean the bike.....sigh....

I'll be heading down mid to late morning, setting up camp roughly where Winston said...seems to be the most sheltered place. Look for a red Yamaha Virago and/or an orange and grey tent.

Well, it's been and gone. Third time lucky weatherwise; except for an easterly drizzle on Saturday night for the speedway and a couple of light showers through the night.
As always the entertainment was great, the racing even better.
Managed to catch up with Scumdog and CB, Woodybee, Clairsky, BotB, Moxey, HondaV2, OAB... apologies to any one I missed.

sounds likle a great weekend for all. Was good to be at Wyndham for the racing at least. Spotted a couple of KB'ers on the OTHER side of the track! Enjoyed the excellent Catilns road (even the gravel detour) tho got hamered by the wind for most of it! Racking up some miles already! Passed a tourist who had parked a campervan in the swamp- they really don't get gravel roads!

Wow. Home last night about 11. What a magic weekend. Top nz bike event ive been to yet by a country mile!!!!!!!!!
The inland ride down was perfect. Total heaven.
The racing was good, the speedway track and racing awesome.
Loads of piss drunk, loads of new places, my first first gear wheelie, and a lovely cop who let me away with some cheeky riding in invercargill.
Windy wet ride home but the ole newspaper worked its magic.
Perfect man. Burt Monroe rocks!:niceone:

Third time going for me and I think it was the best yet! Sunshine at the Oreti Beach races, Teretonga and Wyndham (yes, everywhere) was beautiful and warm. Excellent racing by the competitors.

Didn't need rain gear at all. Went down via the Catlins (McJim territory) and it was lovely.

Very well done, organisers. Give yourselves a BIG pat on the back. And see you again next year...

Took a slow route home and just got in.

Had a great week, we left ChCh Wednesday last and went over the coast stopped the first night in Franz, spent a little to much as you do, then had a short hop to Wannaka where by some random chance I looked to my left as we entered the Speights bar there and say one of my local KB'ers Spuds1234 helmets sitting there, meet up with a couple of bikers had a beer and a yarn. Off through the Crown ranges down to Invercargill (two l's I can afford the ink) with Alex leading the way, a stop at Winton for a coffee, the off to the Rally site.

I can honestly say I have sent plenty of txt messages to Scummy and McJim but never meet either, I meet a couple of KB'ers and had a ball of a time.

Just a wee warning to all just because a dozen beers has 12 std drinks and a cask of red wine has 31 it does not necessarily make sense to buy the cask of wine.

Great to hear that you and everyone else had a great time, it was another pearler of a rally with incredible organisation. Even the gang boys had a good time and didn't bother anyone. One of them rode his Fatbob through the crowd in the dark past Scummy and I, then arsed off. What a cheer went up.

McJim wasn't able to be there, family responsibilities called. I missed lots of people including Daffyd but did catch up with Clairsky. Damned hard to bump into people at these big rallies.

We must have been standing next to you at that point, we were standing next to the caravan that sold burgers, not the whitebait one with Spider I think at the time, he dumped it on the way out and managed to spin it at least 180 degrees. That cheer was even bigger.

Well done Venture Southland, an awesome few days had by all, checked out the Catlins & Milford Sounds whilst down there to, very funny after afew beers listening to the the Southerners talking about their day @ worrrk. Man those Southern roads chew tyres. The Pose all split up for the journey back.Had a good day's ride from Inver's up the West Coast (only real rain the whole trip, apart for on the way down on Tuesday night 1.5hrs out of Gereldine)) & spent the night @ the commercial (? roughcast pub) in Murchison, awesome deal. Spent 1.5 days R & R in Takaka before heading out to Picton & sailing back yesterday. One of the crew rode from Inver's up to Picton then sailed that night & made it back to the Naki by 0520hrs in the pouring rain (North Island leg anyway). So everyone made it home safe n sound & the I did 4400k's, bike needs a wash new tyres & a service, oh and got spoken to by a nice policeman in Haast who said "slow down" & left it @ that, a nice chap he was ! & who ever said there's no cops in the SI are full of it, we saw 6 between Haast & Greymouth, but hey you get that in weekends like that !:shifty:
