Just a heads up for those of us on two wheels thinking of hitting the hill this weekend. Take it easy!

New Zealand Police Alert 3:00pm 7 Mar 2008 Wellington

Location of incident: Upper Hutt

Incident type: Resealing of SH2 near Rimutaka Hill

Police have been advised that resealing is taking place on SH2 at the base of the Rimutaka Hill (Upper Hutt side).
Currently there is a 30kph speed restriction in place. This is likely to cause some delays for traffic heading over the Rimutaka's.
Police ask motorists to be patient if there are any delays.

I rather like it when they stop all the traffic. You cruise up to the front and when the fella turns the go sigh, you go first.... no traffic to pass, Yahhhh!!!
Gravel sucks though, so thanks for the heads up.
Anyone gone over this afternoon/evening want to give us an update as to whether it'll be ok for a blat tomorrow. Cheers ears'

Fucked (well not quite) two bikes in very quick succession a few Thursday nights ago. I would like to see if there's a regular culprit.

What side of the road was it own by the way?

Friday evening there was a fair bit of loose gravel still. The resealing stops just short of the bridge heading north. If they follow their usual form, the bastards will let the weekend traffic do the sweeping for them as people do 100kph through there.

A word of warning - there was a camera van in the 30 km zone on Thursday and it would have made a fortune.

Regarding the diesel spills. I travel the hill every day and there does not seem to be a regular pattern to the spills. I suspect it could be a firewood truck or a light tradesmans truck. There are a couple that go flat out around every corner and may spill with a full tank. Have not seen any actually losing diesel yet.

When riding over the part they are resealing around kiatoke, I noticed that alot of humps and bumps in the road. Its going to be a shitter.

The desiel that was spilt on the hill on thursday night was from a B train

I went back and forth yesterday and apart from the road works at Te Marua (which worked to my advantage as there was a long cue stopped when I arrived, so made my way to the front and had a lovely undisturbed trip up the hill), was all good!! Hubby went over this avo and said the road works were done, just a little loose stuff on the edges.
