View Full Version : Brake blipping..?

Something I recently noticed at the last MotoTT trackday and then again watching WSBK.

You know.. Ride along at ~20km/h and blip the brake enough to make the front suspension drop and pop up again.

Is this to seat the brake pads properly or to give the suspension a little warm up or something totally different I haven't thought of?

Looks pretty funny when a bunch of bikes are nodding along lining up for the grid or in pit lane lining up to go on the track.

It's just done to look funny and to amuse people like you

Seriously though - probably brand new discs and pads since it is WSB. They're probably just making sure they're settled in and they have the feel for the brakes before they really have to rely on them.

Certainly works then

Wonder about trackdays... Quite a few people were doing it. Certainly adds to the serious sprotsbiker image if you've got the leathers and aftermarket can as well.

I thought it was to keep them from locking up when you really pull on them

I remember someone telling me that if you pump the brakes first then you can pull the leaver all the way in and it won't lock up the tyre.

It is used as a way to start getting some heat into the front tyre.

Yeah, I always do the same when I set off.

It's always nice to know that your brakes do work before you actually need them........
