Looking at mounting my escort 8500 in the undertail compartment of the zx6r. Its a perfect fit if I remove the toolkit. It would point downhill about 15 degrees and also is obviously behind the rider fuel tank and fairing etc. Do you think it would still perform ok. I imagine radar penetrates reasonably well through rider and fairings maybe not the tank, and also would probably not be coming from straight ahead of you anyway. The only other place is in my tank bag

The detector will need a fairly clear line of sight front and rear to work effectively.
In the undertail it wouldn't be worth having. I'd say even in the tank bag would be pretty crap. You'll be lucky if it goes off shortly after you've been caught.
Buy a stem mount or if you're cheap it is usually pretty easy to cut and bend some sheet metal to attach to a mirror mount. Both options have worked well for me.

The radars frequency preforms just fine, even behind fairings/plastic ive been told .
DanggerousBastard:
Behind your screen or behind your fairings - makes no difference. Plastic is transparent to microwaves. The main thing is not to inadvertantly refocus the beam (dont put it in a headlight) or put it too low so it can't "see". It will only report what it can "see", and microwave energy is more like light than other radio frequencies - especially 30GHz.

for what its worth the valentine 1 website suggests that you can mount behind plastic but should avoid mounting behind carbon fibre or metal including metallic paint. I might try enabling the x band and testing how close I can get to an automatic door. See if I get similar results with it in the open and under the seat.

Could I wire it into the tail light or would it draw too much power from the light. Bearing in mind that its an LED tail light
