The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCI) has issued an award to Transport for London (TfL) for reducing casualty rates.

TfL has produced a package of initiatives aimed at reducing the number of motorcycle casualties in the capital, including BikeSafe London, a series of motorcycle publicity campaigns, a bus lane access trial and the exemption of bikes and scooters from the congestion charge.

Geoff Sherley, MCI's Chief Executive said "We hope that Transport for London's approach to motorcycling will motivate other Local Authorities to consider similar policies under the current round of Local Transport Plans."

The MCI has also named GCHQ, the Cheltenham based military intelligence centre ‘Most Motorcycle Friendly Employer’. The award, which comes with the prize of a new £1,500 motorcycling shed, highlights the fact that almost five per cent of GCHQ's 4,500 staff use motorcycles or scooters to commute.
