This article from Stuff made me laugh!

Blokette Kiwis have taken the "girls can do anything" mantra too far and forgotten how to be ladies.

That's the message from the National Council for Women, which recommends a dose of finishing school for the country's party animals.

It says they act more like men behaving badly than demure females.

It is urging young women to behave themselves, go easy on the drinking and stop trying to act like men.

"Politically and economically, New Zealand women are blazing across the barriers," council president Christine Low said.

"[But] women need to realise that empowerment does not disenfranchise them from being a woman.

"Women need to know that it is perfectly acceptable to act and behave like a woman and not a 'blokette' with something to prove to their male counterparts."

Ms Low's comments - which marked International Women's Day - follow a Durex Sexual Wellbeing Global Survey that found New Zealand women were the most promiscuous in the world.

They had an average of 20.4 sexual partners, well above the global average of 7.3. New Zealand was the only country where women were more promiscuous than their men.

Enjoying an after-work drink last night at a Wellington bar, German-born Helene Wolf said Kiwi women drank just as much as Germans or Russians.

"But for some reason there's a perspective that women's drinking is worse here than anywhere else. Maybe [New Zealand] women don't know how to behave."

well I agree with it. Woman dont know how to be ladies nowadays. They dont act like they want to be respected but jump up and down when they are disrespected.

Of course, not all woman fall into the same basket, but there is a massive trend heading that way.

Perzackery! Women can't win, any more than men can! I think Jiminy Cricket said it well, "Let your conscience be your guide!" That little voice in the back of your head is usually ignored until it's too late and you wish you'd listened to it earlier.

If you're feeling uncomfortable, listen to your feelings. It's taken me and the Missus 30 years to train each other to how we like things and we are having a great time!

Often we're too concerned with how others may view us and let our actions be guided by what we think they want of us, but in my experience, you'll get some thinking you're an idiot and others thinking you're wonderful, just like on KB!

You can't please everyone, so just behave in a way that ensures you'll respect yourself in the morning.:niceone:

I can see what they're saying though. I'm one of the statistics, I'm a blokette (but looking at Str8 Jacket and Mrs K, I don't think I'm the only one...), and I love it... And a lot of my girl friends out there are just the same. None of us sleep around though, not as far as I know, and we can all dress up pretty and act demure if the occasion asks for it.

Exactly!!! We are who we are, and luckily we have the best of both worlds at our fingertips these days! Yah for us!
I was reading in the paper also that if men want more sex they need to do more housewor. Basically, women generally still do more than their share but if their hubby/live in lover pulls finger and does more then the woman feels like they have an equal partnership and are more likely to give it up!!!
Guess what my hubby was busy doing yesterday avo??

Gorsh - I didn't see this thread last night but was thinking along these lines myself today - while I was out riding the Scream Extractor. Which by the way is still lovely and gorgeous and heaps of fun...I'm leaning him over more, have reduced my 'chicken strips' and am generally just loving being back on two wheels...Gee I'm SUCH a bloke! :crybaby:

Prior to heading out I got in and tightened my own chain and topped up the Scottoiler and tightened some bits and bobs and afterwards I helped hubby take bits off it and put those bits back on it - my hands were so black and greasey....crikey I really should just have a sex change! How ever does he stand me? :(

Obviously I practically have a penis and talk about badly behaved! I swear, drink, smoke, poke fun at others, don't dress up to do the grocery shopping, hate clothes shopping, love to drive my car and ride my bike, live in jeans and trackpants, don't style my hair (except for work or speshul occasions) and will tell anyone who deserves it to feck off!

I can scrub up and slap on war paint as well as the next 'lady' but I pride myself on being a bit more fun and capable than the average 'well, behaved, immaculately dressed, demure, sweet, softly spoken, graduate of any finishing school'.

They can bite my big hairy bahooky!

Men I'm attracted to (or even remotely interested in bothering with as friends) aren't put off by a woman who can hold her own, challenge them and meet them halfway in some of their pursuits.

Tried being a real girly girl for a while but I just didn't have the stomach for it cos I made myself sick!

OH and as for being slappers...I'd hazard to guess the slappers are actually mostly the really girly girls anyway! Atleast in my experience the so called ladies were the biggest whores out. So they look pretty all the time and act all coy and polite and don't swear so much...but guess what? For all their 'ladylikeness' they've screwed mostly everyone they know.

I can count ALL my conquests on the one hand and while I very much enjoy sex (and haven't ever had to consider paying for it to get some), I've never had a 'one night stand' and don't just root for the sake of it, for me there's got to be strong feelings (other than just the ones going on down there) both ways to get into my knickers and that I think is the strong mark of a 'real lady'...BECAUSE you can be a lady and drink, burp, fart and all the rest with the boys...To suggest that if chicks do these things they aren't ladies is just plain bollox.

Oh and the irony of the spokeswoman being a MS was not lost on me....maybe she's too much of a lady to get herself (or keep) a man.

Next they'll be telling men that they need to be more chauvanistic (sp)

I agree with everything you've posted there, but that specific bit I've quoted...

Yep, damn true. I go to an all girls' high school... And yes, there are exceptions, but the ones who come to school dressed up to the nines with all the make up on, whom get queasy at the sight of the sheep heart dissection in Bio, whom bat their eyelashes at the teachers and whom get all upset when they see a bug... They are more likely to be the ones who would sleep with anything that could guffaw and make eyes at them and whom are an embarrassment to the rest of the female population.

And most of the time, it's not so much that they don't swear as much, it's that they're saving it all up for the next girl who screws the guy they dumped last week in favour for his best friend... The most ladylike ones at my school seem to be the biggest bitches. <_<

Yup - and they would call others girls desperate! ha! Just as well not all of us feel the need to parade around like bitches on heat. (though I'm sure some men wouldn't mind that!) Though they also look down on girls for some of the same stuff they love and lust after about them - bastards! Who is it that can't win?

i can't be bothered with labels - or with other people's expectations or opinions of me

i'm not 'for' or 'against' being the locally-culturally-accepted definition of 'feminine' - just not sufficiently attracted to the concept to be slavish about it is all ............. the feel of silk against my skin or the wind though my hair or the mud squishing between my toes are equally acceptable to me....

i know at least two women [in their 30's/40's] who won't appear outdoors without full makeup and coiffed hair - and many more who think it's ok to use their gender to manipulate, cheat and mislead ............... i consider THEM far more scarey than i could ever be

Personally I think the media puts way too much pressure on women, i was reading this interesting article in the ODT the other day (for once they weren't wanking on about how students are assholes) which said that it wasn't enough for women to be successful but they had to be successful and pretty!

This opened my eyes to something I think I personally, (and many of my friends) have been trying to live up to which is bullshit!!!!!!

Stop trying to make women how they were back when or how you should think they should be and fuck double standards, Im sick of this shit.

Working/studying in a field that still has an old boys club feel to it is hard and I wish that the media would stop feeding these opinions and making them worse!

Nowadays, women have to be an individual of many facets:

Mother, wife (respectable in public, but naughty between the sheets), a business woman...

and the list goes on...hardly simple, and maybe satisfying for some, but very much frustrating for so many...

What is the answer on a grand scale though? I don't think there is any...unless we are to make changes on an individual basis, and see that each of us make the changes and find the balance that makes us happy.

PS: this is also very much valid for men btw...

Why iron anyway, if you hang the washing out right after it's finished in the machine then fold it neatly it'll be virtually creaseless... Take it from a chick who's been practising this for years! :2thumbsup

Well of course. Society can be a bitch and a half and ain't that the truth.

I think guys get a bit more slack than chicks but in some areas your average guy can get treated like shit. It's not only the fact they're not allowed to have any sort of "softness" in their emotions, i.e., being sad because their dog died or something. Guys are expected to thump someone if they're upset, not have a cry... And I'd totally rattle of some more but I bet a guy could tell it to us better.

I must say that kiwi women are a bit of a mystery to a foreign male like myself. I've met only a few young (<30) kiwi women whose company I found enjoyable (and we're not talking sex here - just girls that aren't airheaded simpletons).

However, those that doesn't fall short on that criteria are usually delightful and engaging company!

On the other hand - I'd dare say the same thing goes for their male counterparts (again, not sex...). Unless you want to talk rugby and holden vs. ford that is.

Can't blame the women for shortcomings that are present on either side of the gender barrier IMHO. (i.e. beerguts are not charming regardless of your gender...)
