Help please from rsv1000 owners

Attention all rsv 1000 owners
Im thinking of selling my trusty blackbird and getting a twin.
One at the top of my list is the rsv1000.
What I need to know is the in’s and outs of owning such a beast!
Is the 01 better than the 99? Any problems with the resin fuel tank?
Are there known faults with electrics?
I need some pros and cons and other options for a big twin.
Not going down the TLR or tls road thanks.
Nor ducati.
Also not keen on sloppy firestorms either.
So it’s the rsv1000 , falco, sv1000, what else do I need to test ride? Can’t think of any other sports semi tour twin bikes.

Try a Tuono too. Very rideable, comfortable and definitely powerful enough. I took TSS's 07 demo out for the day on Saturday and had an absolute blast!!

Love the yellow RSV Mille. It's a tough call on the pro's and cons of various years. My understanding is that they get a little more refined with each iteration till the new RSVR, which is far more civilised and sweeter handling. If you have the budget and are looking at a Mille, I would shop shop around for a "factory" with the extra bling. I have seen some very sharp pricing on these. The big bikes seem hard to sell at the moment.

I've never owned one but Superbike magazine did a used bike buyers feature on them in June 07.

What to watch out for:
- oil leaks round oil pressure switch and filter
- leaking radiator caps (on some)
- odometer can reset itself on a flat battery so check that the mileage looks genuine
- fork seals can leak (same for any bike surely)
- if it has an aftermarket can fitted then the fuel mixture must be modified or it will run dangerously lean
- the side stand is a bad shape meaning the bike is easy to knock over
- be careful when changing the oil as it is a dry sump motor (go by volume)
- airbox intake funnels seal poorly to the frame
- starter solenoids can fail
- rear brake and clutch need bleeding (surely this would have been sorted on a 2nd hand one)
- access to front cylinder head is difficult for checking valve clearances
- access to shock rebound damper adjuster is very tricky

Most of these things are pretty minor and many should have been sorted on a well looked after bike. In general they seemed to like it a lot. Personally I think that the oldest ones are the best looking and each successive model slightly worse. Hope this helps.

I've owned my 99 RSV Millie now for around 2 months.
I just love it to bits. I just love the look of it. Its an Italian work of art...
The only Con I have is that you have to get use to everybody coming up to you wanting to talk about it. I have never owned a bike the draws people over like the Mille.:rolleyes:

It pulls like a horse and its got a sound that just makes you go weak at the knees.:2thumbsup

It is by far the nicest bike I have ever owned.
I agree with the side stand design fault. You really have to think about where you park it as it doesn't look that stable in certain positions. They also did have problems with the side stand switch but its a very easy fix.

I did a huge amount of research about RSV's before buying mine and couldn't really find anything bad to put me off. Just minor things. I didn't buy a RSV-R model as to be honest the only difference really was shocks and wheels and since I'm no Rossi Valentino I didn't think it would make a difference. The Mille handles like its on rails now!

Buy one. You wont regret it!

I've got an '03 black mille, akrapovic pipe, pc3, k&n filter, the '03s have a close ratio gearbox, love my baby . I wouldn't be without one.
