Best off-shore web site for DR650 parts?

I am after a short sidestand ... or maybe just a centre stand, to replace the stock item, as mine came lowered by the standard 40mm at the dog bone.
I need to replace the standard side stand, so I can lower the forks through the triple clamps to balance out the bike.

anyone got any good suggestions where to get a centre stand for the DR, or the short side stand ? The replacement item here is $169.00 ...

Hacksaw sounds a good option, while your at it, get a larger foot (plate) put on it so it doesn't sink into soft ground.
Failing that try Kientec? engineering in the states, Jesse is the DR guru over there and may be able to help.

Just as an aside, will you find after a bit of riding that you want that height back? I can just straddle my DR (one foot down at lights) and have to do the cowboy mounting style with any luggage on (swing leg over once bike is moving) but having bounced around in rough going on the DR would rather have the suspension travel and ground clearance than the convenience of both feet on the ground.

As yet another aside, dropping the front end is usually carried out by disassembling the forks and reassembling them with an internal spacer reversed? to achieve the lower height. I must admit I would probably just slide the staunchions up tho.

Swap ya my factory short side stand for your long one.

I've seen talk on the DR650 yahoo group of cutting a section out of the long stand, welding in a section of threaded rod, putting a nut on it and tapping the other part of the stand. Adjustable side stand if you ever decide to put the height back up. There are pics of this on the web somewhere.

I'm thinking that a centre stand may be the best option to go for ..... what do you guys think ? It would be handy for on road when touring with gear. Not so sure about off road though ?

Best thing about centre stand is (upright) wheel removal & chain oiling.

Don't order the Dual star centre stand (http://www.dual-star.com/index2/Brand/Suzuki/dr_650_centerstand.htm). They have a history of taking bloody ages (if ever) filling the order. This (http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/2668/394/) is another option but I know very little about them.

I thought we thrashed the centre stand debate to death last year sometime and concluded they fouled the undercarriage something horrible and weren't worth the money.
Personally, I don't see the point, I can change tyres, adjust the chain and anything else without a centre stand, why add more weight?
The beauty (what there is of it) of the DR is its simplicity and relative light weight, if anything I would be stripping stuff off rather than adding on.

The only point for me .... would be to remove the side stand, and replace it with a centrestand ..... which would be better for touring, which will be my main interest .... with gravel/ dirt road .. but mainly sealed road riding. I can understand it may be a hassle or weight issue for those of you who do a lot of off roading.

I'm finding my tall bike with the shorty stand is digging in to peoples asphalt driveways really severely. Really just need to get the foot angle adjusted with a bigger plate on there. I didn't like how upright the stock stand makes the bike with the ones I've looked at.

I think the hacksaw and welder is the better way. You then get the length you want and can re-angle/re-size the foot at the same time.

I just ordered the short stand and they had reduced the price ... so I get it landed for US$49.00 or about NZ$62.00 ....... thats a hell of a lot better than NZ$169.00 through a local suzook agency !!

The bastards - didn't tell me that! - good trading Gizzit - I obtained a freight price for two but could not get them to confirm the purchase - gave up and got one only - arrived a couple of days ago. Well made, as ordered - the stand does not have a rubber base to the foot - will need some rubber to be glued into it.
