Trying for the attention grabbing title! :msn-wink:
Does anyone in the Welly area have a rotary hoe and/or a pretty hefty weed eater we could borrow over Easter weekend??
Pretty please with a cherry on top.
Feel free to come round and show us how it works too if you like in exchange for beer and our undying appreciation!!
Thanks!:niceone:

You could get all the Rock2Wgtn out of towners in for a BBQ/working bee.
Nothing like hard work before a rock concert!

Hmmm judging from a few threads around R & R and PD there appears to be a few self proclaimed ho's around - not clear on whether they are rotary or not.
Pretty sure they would be pretty keen on the cherry too.
Good luck with your search
Sorry - just couldn't resist - I did try for about 3 seconds..

Seriously though - I do have a weed eater but it is anything but 'hefty' (you get what you pay for I have found over and over again....) if you have no other options you are welcome to try it (electric).

I did think about it, but knowing that lot not a lot of work would get done! Then again, with all that make-up they may just scare the weeds into dying!

haha, well done for holding off that long!!
Oh and thanks for the offer, we do have one of those cheapy ones too, but not going to do much to the mean Newlands weeds we have lovingly grown. But thanks anyway!

Hard pressed to find a rotary hoe who still has her cherry. Bit of an oxymoron really.

How strong does the weed wacker need to be, what are you dealing to?

The Home Handyman's Bible states..."Never lend your chainsaw or your wife....They'll both come back fucked!!"
I believe that also applies to Rotory hoes and weed wackers and hedge clippers and sanders and lawn mowers and skill saws and .....in fact, I believe it applies to all manner of 'power tools'.
The other question that I have is, "Why would someone living at the top of Newlands want to disturb their soil"?.....It'll blow away if you do, and if you do manage to plant anything in it, that'll blow away too!!
Just go for a ride and enjoy a beer afterwards.....let the garden take care of itself!

Too true!
I have a 40 acre pice of dirt with about 30 acres of Gamba grass - glyphos kills! Only problem is that it kills all plants / weeds, soyou need to plan your spraying carefully.... Sounds like you are in a windy area!
We use a 300l tank on back of ute and it is good, also have a 20l backpack sprayer for around the "garden". Bought a 35cc HONDA brush cutter too....
Good luck
Al

haha, we do a little of that, but I don't think the neighbours would appreciate us killing all their pretty flowers!

A large vege patch that is growing meter tall weeds (rotary hoe type job I thought, but maybe a spade if I get angry enough) and an assortment of weeds down the driveway.

Yes, good suggestion, but it really is becoming a bit of an eyesore, and I agree about lending out tools etc, but wouldn't ask unless I planned on being very careful.... or someone came and did it for us... for payment of beer, Bourbon etc.

It is stupidly windy here, so we do have to pick a rare still day to spray toxic crap about.
Thanks all.

We hired a rotary hoe a few weeks ago from McEntee, from memory, it was ~$80 for 24 hours. And you can do a whole lot of hoeing in 24 hours.
And I think they have big brush cutters too.

Roundup is biodegradable... in fact, once it hits the ground, it's done. And it's not volatile. Spray it where you want it, and provided it's calm, there will be no drift. Another helpful tip from your local ag-pilot!!

we live in newlands / paparangi and have a shit load of blackberry and weeds down our bank. we used a combination of pulse / round up and a machete to clear it up. if you do use round up get it from the warehouse its much cheaper then from a garden centre.

Now that's a hard thing to pass up, do you wanna swap, you can have Nigel for a few hours... (he's bloody useless though, he's the one who's meant to keep the gardens tidy!!!)

The guys that came round to give me a quote were about $120 cheaper than the first lot I called, and they started this avo and will finish tomorrow. So all sorted, thanks for the advice and kind offers of tool lending though!! Best of all, I won't have to spend all of easter in the garden, will have to clock some ks on the bike instead, how sad!:sunny:
