View Full Version : Trailbike insurance?

I just received the insurance premium for my wr450 today for $360 (off road only $10k value $500 excess plus $1000 theft excess).

Am I right in assuming that theft is the greatest risk by far?

If so I am assuming that normally happens from where the bike is stored?

What sort of security are you guys using to stop people stealing your bikes?

Ours are in locked sheds with bikes chained to work benches but I'm also wondering about disk locks or padlock through the sprocket etc...

any suggestions appreciated

cheers

Mark

Please post pics of your security measures, your address and a map just to make it easier for me eh? :blip:

I have never insured my dirt bikes. Just make sure they are well secured to something immovable and resist the urge to hoon around your neighborhood on it thus advertising to all and sundry what you have and where you live. A cheap shed alarm wouldn't be a bad idea either. Always keep an eye on who's following you when trailering home from events go around the block just to be sure if suspicious.

i load and unload mine into the van within the shed, im fairly sure nobody in my neighbourhood is even aware i have a bike, i also dont run it at home. if nobody knows it exists, they wont take it.

this however wont work if you dont have a van

big arse chain to foundations in the house, no way is it going anywhere. then lock them to your trailer, and your trailer to your car if your stopping on the way to rides for a feed ect. (baseball bat under seat as well just incase) haha,.. that is the main insurance i need.

Mine just sits in the shed and is not locked to anything. 2 kicks and ride her away! Insurance wise, it is covered for fire and theft under my house and contents, and is covered under my car policy for when it is in transit.

Don't you love it that he's poking fun at another man's ride when he doesn't have a bike himself?

every time i rode with cheese when he had his poozuki, its unreliability was the reason we had to call it a day early every time.

i cant say the same thing has happened to his honda, nor any of the 8 honda's ive had :

Honda = :first:

I must agree I've raced Cagiva, Yamaha, Kawasaki in my Karts, Been into everything Gearbox, high comp pistons, modded ports, no clutches, motoplat ignitions, mentanol etc etc and the build quality of my Cr250 is simply better than most. You ain't gonna break a CR250 unless you do something stupid.

I think because it is not a road registered vehicle its covered, but you do have me questioning it as it was my wife that told me its covered!

might pay to get them to specificly list it on the policy in case you end up with a situation like barty5. - or one that doesnt end well

I'm not really super fussed about it, because it probably only worth 2k now, it would piss me off if it fell off the trailer or I crashed in transit. If they break into my garage, the CR wont be the first thing they pinch!:nono:
