View Full Version : Fuel tank welding in Wellington?

Anyone had this done? I'm struggling to find somewhere that will do it.

My dirt bike had a hairline crack along a seam which I successfully repaired about 3 months ago with JB-Weld, good stuff that.

When I got it back from a shop recently I discovered that they had managed to snap the mount in half and it is leaking ever so slightly again.

I'm hoping to get it fixed properly as I'm selling it soon, the crack was fine with JB-Weld but I don't think it'll hold the mount together. I can't bring myself to sell something I'm not happy with!

Cheers

I've done it a few times, pretty risky if you don't do it right too.

I can't do it at the moment as I'm out of gas, otherwise I'd offer.

I can tell you how to go about it if you're keen to try it...

Yeah, good point. I've looked a little bit, looked for second hand ones but it is pretty hard. This RMX is a jap import so it came road legal which is a bonus but also a steel tank. The NZ new ones were dirt only and had a plastic tank and I've been told the mounts are a bit different. It's surprising how many subtle differences there are between the NZ & Jap models when you look for parts. I hate to think what I'd be charged for new after looking at a couple of other parts.

Koba has offered to give it a go (done it before), should be fine, "she'll be right". If it doesn't work out I'll be looking a bit harder. Might try mount a plastic tank.

Cheers for the offer! Think I've got it sorted. You must need more bikes to paint...
