What brand/model have you found to have the least wind resitance at highway speeds?
I have recently puchaced a new lid and it sounds like I have jet turbines strapped to my ears. I have to keep my head tucked down even at the speed limit to minimise the noise but it is still bloody loud. :ar15:
I will get some earplugs before my next ride to save me going deaf.

I've never had any such thing as a quiet helmet. I use ear plugs all the time.
Can't hear the phone at work that way.

I had been using one of my dads old ones and it was exellent.
Probably due to the fact it had no airvents!
You had to put the visor up at lowspeeds to prevent it from fogging but it was really good at speeds.
The new one has exellent ventilation, but I have swaped one problem for a worse one.

The Quietest helmet I have ever used was a "SHARK".
Can not express enough how quiet they are!
Really comfy too!

Low wind resistance does not equate to quietness. Style of bike can govern how quiet a helmet is. My Nolan is quieter on a naked bike than on the Bandit. getting the correct fit helps too.
I wouldn't use any helmet without earplugs.

My HJC is great at high speeds (an ipod sure cuts out the remaining wind noise) :Punk:

shes write about fit, head size can dictate the. I preffer shoie and have had argements about that with other brand wearers (diffrent shape heads) till the cows come home. just be a girl and keep trying them untill somthing fell just right and thats likley to be the quitest as well.

Davida make the quitest helmets, nothing else even comes close.
They mainly make open faces, but they have a new full face coming out this/next year.
The cost? (Bloody horrendous)

Best helmet I ever had was my old KIWI but I destroyed that in a BIG crash at Manfield, My current helmet fits me really well which is an AGV X vent, not the quietest but always wear ear plugs. Have now been wearing AGV's for the last 12 years.
Keep trying helmets on to figure out which fits you best and suits your budget, also make sure you can get accessory visors. Me I cant wear Shoei as my head is the wrong shape or is that Shoei's are the wrong shape for my head :confused2

Noise has never been an issue when I've been looking for a helmet. If you do alot of touring then comfort is the first concern. Find a helmet that fits your head shape.
I've tried Shoei, AGV and Bell, all good helmets but the best for me has been Arai. Definately not the quietest but certainly the most comfortable. Shame about the price. They say that a helmet has a lifespan of about 5 years if used alot. It takes me that long to save for one.
I'll repeat what has already been said, wear earplugs. Noise problem solved.

My FFM full-face is pretty quiet but then I'm on a naked bike, my summer helmet is a "CHIPS"-style 'shorty' open face and the noise the webbing straps make is horrendous at any speed above 50kph so I always wear ear-plugs - makes the bike seem quicker and smoother too!
Funnily enough if I turn my head to one side a few degrees the noise stops but I ain't riding far like that and it make me look like Quasimodo!!

Don't know if you guys can get Roof lids, the Diversion is very quiet and they have the "misting up" sorted, build quaity of the vents is abit suspect tho... much quieter than my Arai.

I just got a SHOEI RAID SHOGUN, and I must say that its the best helmet I've ever had with noise, sure cost a few pennies, but it was worth it, oh and that chrome visor sorta added abit to the price ...
Earplugs would help you ride faster because when your really moving the noise can be deafening, which forces you to slow down.

doesn't your ears have something to do with balance?
That may have something to do with it.

When I wear plugs I push the bike harder because I don't hear the engine noise, only the exhuast,an even that's more mellow

I have HJC CL12 which is very comfortable but noisy due to a crapp design fit around the neck. Mate has a CL14 which is the next generation which turns out to be quieter than the brand new Shoei XL1000 he just bought.
Check out the latest BMW Sport Integral which looks good and apparently is rated as the quietest helmet around according to some overseas test procedure. I have found that the type of bike makes a big difference to the noise of the helmet. I wear ear plugs on all long trips.

i reconmend the sharks and shoei. sharks are cheaper but the insides go soft after about 9 -12 months so make sure its snug when you buy it.
my best advice is to have a good chat with the parts guys and spend time making sure you get the right fit.
i personally own a AGV deamon. its really light, 1300grams (+/- 50 g) but a bit louder than id like. if im travelling more than about 150k 1 way i wear plugs. makes the aftermath much more endurable! :spudbooge

for me, it lets me concentrate on the road more and keeps me from getting tired so I guess those both help me travel faster (if thats what I'm trying to do). I'm paranoid about loosing my hearing (being an acoustic engineer and all!) so if I don't have ear plugs, I tend to avoid going veryfast because the noise gets so damn loud (using a KBC Galaxy ... but also usually doing a *bit* over the speed limit before its a problem!)
