It's that time of year again whereas my Insurance is due on my bike. I have been with Star for 5 years. Great company but the rates are going through the roof.
What insurance company do you use? What are the claims department like, with the company you are using?
Also how much is your excess?
I have a one year old Triumph Tiger 1050 done 21.000ks. It's replacement cost would be around the 17k mark I would imagine.
What sort of premium should I be expected to pay for full cover, fire, & theft?
I will say thanks now in advance for your thoughts.
Cheers

I have got ALL of my insurance with John Baker Insurance. They are VERY good to deal with, and very helpful

I have a Star policy through Kiwibike.
$14,000 insured value on my K7 GSX1400, comprehensive cover.
I pay a $79 monthly premium, and the excess is $500 for me, $1,000 for anyone else.
Includes trackday cover (so long as it's me riding the bike).

There should be a load of info appearing in the Wiki soon.
JR. That sounds rather pricey.

Just got my bill today from Classic cover for my 04 Triumph Speed Triple. Insured for 12k, $313 for the year, compared to $920 at AMI.
Excess $500.
Got my Ducati there as well, $440 for 16k cover
Also got the bill for my Triumph TT600 from AMI $520 for 8k cover.
Only reason its at AMI as Classic only covers people over 30 and the boy rides the TT600, so no real alternative than to stay at AMI.

I also have both my bikes with Dave Golightly (Vero, down in CHCH) - very happy and waaaaaaaaay cheaper than Assholes Anonymous erm, I mean AA here in Auckland. (I only call them that because they wouldn't insure even my ginny at all simply because i didn't have a full bike licence; stuff the fact that I've been on a full car licence for forever and i hardly know the meaning of the words "insurance claim"). So when i finally did get my full i took great satisfaction in enquiring about the cost for both the ginny and the bandit only to tell them "Nah, can get it way cheaper than you guys elsewhere".

+1 for kiwibike, Great fella to deal with.
And another +1 for Kiwibike (http://www.kiwibike.co.nz/). I've just bought a new bike, and the quote I got from them was excellent value for money, excess of only $250 (for me or my "named" rider riding it, $750 if someone else is on it), roadside assistance, trackday cover, fully comprehensive cover. Bike insured for $7000, premium of $335. I'm 25.

Seems, its depends on who you speak to and what day it is sometimes.. I got a GT250R insured as a learner for $400 with AMI, then changed to a DL650 on an LTSA exemption, they quoted $1000, rang them the next day and an other lady said it would be $500... same policy, no difference.. I didnt question!

I'm with state. They have been really good so far.
I just bought a new bike and have been looking at comprehensive cover. I'm 27, am sitting my restricted tomorrow and have bought a kawasaki ZX7RR.
State:
Premium $240 p.a.
Excess: $400
Covers me and any rider I put on the policy who has more experience than me.
Vero:
Premium: ~$330
Excess: $250
Will cover anyone with the right license. Covers my gear as well as my bike. And they subsidise advanced courses with mainland driving school.
Am a bit uncertain about which way I will go. State have been really good to me. However, getting my gear covered by an additional insurance besides my contents might be a good idea in relation to avoid premium increases (should I bin again inside a year - I expect and hope not!).

Im with AMI. And having all insurance with one place makes it a little cheaper for me.
Some places that may be cheaper don't always mean better.Pays to check out thier terms and condtions.

Why would you use these guys?
Im paying $175 or there abouts to insure my Katana for $3000 with comprehensive insurance and a $250 excess.
Ebike wanted $1461.20 for comprehensive with a $250 excess.
Im 22. Poor. Golightly insurance all the way. Another vote for them.

Thanks guys for the brilliant feedback. Yes it all depends who you speak to on the day alright. I rang one of the insurance companies you guys use. Got a quote, I wasn't sure about something. So I rings back and gets a different sales rep and he quoted me $250.00 cheaper the the first rep I spoke to. I haven't done anything as yet. I still have until the end of the month to decide. I will let you all know who I went with in due course.
Cheers all

Im with AMI. And having all insurance with one place makes it a little cheaper for me.
We changed all our policies (four MV, house, contents) from State (after being with them for ~30 years) to AMI. However, my latest bike insurance invoice just came in, and it was over $700, so I'm going to shop around. I don't think it's made it any cheaper having all our policies with AMI - I just got pissed off with some of State's terms and didn't think they showed any evidence of either valuing our long-term custom or the fact we had so many policies with them.

Hi Vifferman
I had a bad, bad, experience when I was in Business with State. I had a work van flogged one night. The thieves broke into the compound smashed all the lights on three vans and flogged the newest of the fleet.
Used it to rob a supermarket and then took it out to the country and burned it beyond recognition.
I made a claim with State whom my broker did the deal with, and I had no claim at all for five years with the bastards.
To cut a very long story short. I got treated like a criminal by there loss adjuster. I had to go to the Insurance ombudsman to get them involved. Finally I got paid out.
It took me 13 months to get paid out. So as you can gather I took all my business elsewhere.
I am with SIS with my home and contents. I no longer have my business work from home nowadays.
But SIS don't do bike insurance. I have my bike insured again with Star I negotiated a new cover with then for my 2007 Triumph Tiger I have got it covered for 17k and the premium came to $680 with a 500 excess.
Before it was $875 Star are a good company. In 2002 I dropped a near new bike on the Paras the assessor wrote it of. And Star had me paid out in Ten days in full, plus the price of my nominated after market parts.
I am a great believer in an insurance company is only as good as it's claims department. And Star has proven that they are to me.
Good luck with AMI. The bikes insurance sounds expensive. Give Phil Newell a ring at STAR and tell him Keith from Wanganui told you to ring. Don't talk to anyone else only Phil he's the Manager.
cheers buddy
