OH HELL- dont panic!

There i was tuesday morning doing the going to work thing , sadly driving the truck and drinking coffee, and as normal one of the local "lads" blasts past me on a long straight bit going for it!, as he disappears into the dark, i'm thinking S##T i wish i could blast to work more often {all be it at 6.45 am in the dark}. When the rear light of his bike appears to flash and go upwards???.
I nail the brakes and hit an already dead sheep or three !!.
Yep he collected a mob of a couple of dozen that ran out in front of him from nowhere in the shadows !!
The "flashing" light was the bike doing somersaults before coming back to earth !!!.
Rider in his late forties was not in a good way,

Moral of the story.

We should all do a first aid course

{strange thing was i did my refresher course the week before!!}


The good thing was he was breathing by himself when the ambulance finally arrived but still had broken bones and bad bruises that would have been a lot worse if he hadn't had the right riding gear on, Not to mention a wreck of a bike. Hell it shook me up - not something i want ever again, but i like to think i did my bit, and if that was me i only hope some other bugger would come to my rescue.

Good on you mate:niceone: I ride to work in the dark as well and one of my biggest fears is stuff / animals on the road on unlit sections of the motorway. I ran smack over a pushbike somewhere around Paekakariki at 2am off the ferry on my first trip on the bike. Unsettled me for a fair while.

Well done for looking after the unfortunate rider, he's a lucky guy to have had someone like you on the scene right away by the sounds of things! Hope he's alright. Wonder if it was anyone from here - what was he riding?

Hope the guy makes a full recovery. New Zealand is pretty shocking for stock wandering the roads though. I wouldn't like to ride quick at night - I'd want to be able to stop in the visible distance.

Good on ya mate, it's a real issue that we need to be aware of - both to have at least some first aid training (I have mine all up to date) and to be careful in low visibility.

Wow what a nightmare - I've ended up in the middle of a mob of sheep on a ride out thru Coatesville one morning, came over the brow of a hill fanging the old RD250LC (bless) and Holy Shit!! Couldn't stop in time, but luckily for me the sheep parted like the Red Sea until I was right in the middle of the flock.
Not so lucky was a buddy of mine back in the '80's who literally cut a racehorse in half out near the Ardmore aerodrome. He had a nice 6 month stay in Middlemore for his efforts :doctor:

Nice one.. its good there are folk about like yourself to assist in times of need. When I binned last week, 3 cars stopped to my aid with some wonderful people who offered all assistance they could. I definately do the same for any accident.
