View Full Version : Almost had to walk home

Changing lanes without indication, splitting vigorously and excessive speed. Sounds pretty normal to me on an Auckland motorway. He started off saying he was going to do me for Boy Racing and that I would have to walk home. "Shit, my mums gonna kill me!" He laughed, relaxed somewhat and wrote me up for 106 in a 80. We we're both satisfied with the transaction and parted ways. Still, worth a letter pleading innocence... 106kph on any Auckland motorway has got to be a mistake.
Gotta get that Harley.
P.S. Why did Transit reduce the speed over the Harbour Bridge to 80? I can piss faster than that.

I read somewhere they were concerned that the Nippon Clippon would fall off.

I saw a man in black on what looked like a blue R1 pulling a wheelie up the harbour bridge last night.
:shit:
I think it's time for a crackdown on these irresponsible motorcyclists and their two-wheeled death machines of doom.

I wasn't doing anything dangerous at all. Dangerous is a kiwi driving a car.
I was on the MV. Certainly wish I was on the Harley though.

Hey, is "Northcote" an 80k area of the motorway?
I think the answer is "yes".

Bike cop or cage?
Was this on the "onramp" bit or while going up the bridge itself?
There has been a bit of a presence on the southern side recently.

Yeah - just like bruce takes it so easy on the Vrod huh?
Why I was prepared to let him gap us the other day.
Sometimes there are 7 patrol cars between Greenlane and Albany.
Yer Vrod isn't going to go any slower unless you say so you know? :headbang:

Yes, the answer IS "yes", while they're doing the new on/off ramps for Onewa Road.
And the bridge has been 80km/h for... like... forever.
I can't recall it ever being 100. The 80 starts north of the bridge, and continues south till well past Spaghetti Junction.
But apart from all that - bad luck Finn (or was it 'bad planning'? :spudwhat:)

But I prefer it in my pocket... along with the demerit points.

Some of the apparent evidence would argue to the contrary.
Finn

This ain't a police bashing thread however, I am well within my rights to challenge the alleged offense and I plan to do so. The cop was just doing his job with the tools he had available. I think he may have got it wrong as the traffic was very heavy and I doubt that while I was splitting he could have pinged me with a laser. Don't quite know how I will raise this in my defense. I may just request all the information I am entitled to and make a decision to pay up / shut up or challenge it.
I'm not worried about the fine or the demerit points as I am / was on "0" but it's certainly worth a crack.

You were passing within a lane on the right, weren't you, and indicating correctly for all lane changes and passing maneuvers.
:innocent:
If everyone involved was under the speed limit, you're free and clear so long as the cop doesn't see fit to charge you with careless or dangerous.
Question is whether you can claim with a straight face that riding in traffic makes his radar reading suspect. Worth a try, I suppose.

What jrandom said.
I guess the only other bullshit you could come up with is that you didn't quite realise it was 80 and thought it was 100 as there's some construction going on at the moment and thought it would have still been 100. Lame one though.
If you're done at night you could say "I didn't know" they didn't remove the signs but I doubt you'll stand a chance with that one aye neither would you if you argue "it wasn't me".
Might as well just watch shaggy and pay the fine Finn:

The bridge has been restricted to 80 for at least the last ten years.
