Delphinius has broken down about 50 ksnorth of Gisborne on the East Cape Rd. His bike was running on three, but is now not running at all. Is there anyone who can help him out? He will need bike transport and a bed for the night...
PM me for his Cell ph number.

Nah, gotta feel for the dude, eh?
I'm sure the KB spirit will come to the fore!

Steve is with him. Sounds like they are getting it sorted, although I'm not sure just what assistance is available at Tologa Bay! I'm just glad Steve decided to go around the Cape with him to Gisborne! Steve is going to stay with Delphinus until he is sorted out.

Apparently there is a garage and a hotel there. Delphinus will still need bike transport. Can anyone help these two guys out...we are 3 and a half hours from them...there must be someone closer who can chuck a bike on a trailer??????

I really don't want to drive 7 hours, but perhaps I will have to....

Weaver has arrived and they have a trailer for the bike, so hold up until I give the shout. They are all staying at Tologa Bay Pub for the night

Edit: I'll go on IRC channel too...

Sorry we are to far away this time. I think he should just give up and head home. Ohhhh and get a new bike.

That isn't very charitable. If you were stuck in the middle of nowhere on your bike, you'd be grateful for all the help you got! The guy is out on an adventure! Giving up isn't an option...

He can't exactly head home if his bike isn't going! They are in the middle of nowhere! Give him a break...

Shhhhhh, you are talking to someone (Wendy & Peter) that give out big time to other bikers, including helping to rescue young Jack in Auckland

I believe I heard a serious tongue in cheek in the "go home" comment, as for get a new bike, hmmmmm they will keep!

Bummer Jack, seems this was a better than planned way to meet a few Kiwibikers!

Hope this one is not too expensive. Your bike did drop a bit of oil at ours the other day FWIW. Hope I should not have said that earlier :pinch:

Hehe yes the time taken to help me out last time was MOST appreciated! (they drove a hour south of auckland, loaded me and bike onto ute (Well just the bike, I sat inside) and drove me all the way back into Auckland to drop me at a bike shop.
New bike? Naaah... I'll just buy 2 coils, and next time it happens, whip the tank off on the side of the road, replace it, be back up in running in 7 minutes!

After taking a look at the coils this time, it appears the same one has blown. (Got a 2nd hand one put in in Auckland, nothing new was available).

Oil - Yeah it tends to drop a tiny bit randomly - possibly when hot. But I usually keep an eye on it and it never gets anywhere near low.

Anyone would think I'm touring the island testing out the KB response times on purpose!

So it is not a competition? Dang!! I thought we had it won really!

Just get yourself home safe and sound is all that counts in the long run love.

Far East Cape is asking for long delays though I reckon........LOL

Oh, sorry! I wasn't aware...:pinch:

I've just picked up the story from today! and am feeling for him being in the middle of nowhere with a broken-down bike. I'm glad Steve is up there with him and thanks to weaver also.

As you were...

P.S. I just got a text from Steve and they are hiring a trailer tomorrow and hitching it on a friend of ours car (he lives in Gisborne and isn't a KB'er, nor a bike person) so hopefully, once Jack is in Gisborne he'll get it sorted...

As for update on progress, yes we are at Tolga bay for the night. Figured was easier to sort things out tomorrow morning in daylight...

Trailer/ute/etc scenario... Have a probably trailer available, but with no tie downs, and 2 maybe's... Will see what happens tomorrow...

Happy to pay fuel etc of course.

Many thanks to everyone,
Jack

Well so far Auckland have top marks for response times, accommodation and delivery speed.
Unfortunately while getting bonus points for a quick turnaround and getting me back on the road quickly, your bike shop up there looses a few points for having it break down again within 3 days!

Stay tuned for final scores at the end of the week!

Same cyl eh? Using a second hand coil is not exactly a fool proof cure - so either the coil was faulty,or something is overloading it and making it fail. Was there signs of water in the plug tube again? Like the rust marks we saw on the first coil? Someone needs to put a scope on it when the next coil is fitted - you don't want it happening again.AECS are in Hastings and are one of the top diagnostic centres around....they do training courses.I used to work for the father of one of the guys there. You need someone who understands ignition systems.....and not many motorcycle mechanics do,they seem to be more performance centred, not diagnostic biased.

I just went into the Napier Triumph dealer on the off-chance. But no. And they've already been asked by the Gissy shop. Triumph coils are model-specific, they say. And no, none in NZ.
Bit of a disaster all round really.
