There is a pair of Dainese full leathers and a pair of Spool leathers on Trademe at the mo, both in good nick and reasonably new, and probably at a price I can consider. I cant afford brand new at the mo, so any comments on the 2 brands? I have Spool Cordura, and cant really complain, but dont think it is the best available.

I am guessing that the Dainese would be better. Depends on their age and condition though.

As said it depends on age/usage etc... If they are both same price and condition - Get the Dainese! They are normally twice the price of a set of Spools and are one of, if not, the best leathers out there!

Remember Dainese fit small. It may pay to go up a size on what you would normally wear or at least attempt to try them on first. My measurements would suggest a size 54 but I need a 56 from Dainese.

lol fucken arse they are, the most expensive yes but build quality is crap, I would crash in Mine any day of the week 5 times in a row, Dianese would blow on the first bin. Spool would Blow on the way to the track in the back of the van.
Got to love their marketing department though.

mate they arent the same spec or even close to the same spec as what racers wear. Im my opinion I think they are stupidly over priced, and I stand by what I say.
I will send you a pm

Dainese suits (not all of them) also require you to buy there boots cause of the cuts around the legs

Pro-Tech and T-Age both support "in" boots but work fine with normal boots such as Sidis. Can't comment on the others but I would have thought most of the suits were the same.

Spool would Blow on the way to the track in the back of the van. so would some girls i know :devil2::devil2:
its like anything, chuck enough money at it and have some famous person tell you its great and we all fall for it!

Well I would buy the Dainese if it is one of their topshelf suits and respectfully disagree with Quasi. (assuming they are in good condition) I have tested Dainese and although their cheaper suits are probably not as good as the ones I wore, mine came out with good results.

Forgot to say I wore Talos IV (retail about 1900 quid in the UK), I saw a mate bin in these hard too and the leathers (and him) came out pretty perfect. Their good suits are really good!!

Agree 100%. I have a yellow/black Pro-Tech (matches my bike by an interesting fluke) and a friend has a white T-Age (the stormtrooper suit) and both are beautifully made and have heavy armouring where needed. I personally witnessed the T-Age take a big slide down the road and it only had some light scuffing to show for it. Each to their own opinions on the internet I guess.

build quality is crap

not being at all sceptical here Quasi, what with you being the distributor for a different brand and all, but what are you basing this on? Have you crashed in Dainese or had first hand experience of a suit failing in its job? I wont disagree that Dainese is expensive, whether or not its worth the money I guess comes down to the individual rider and what budget they are on. I will say though that the quality of the Dainese leathers I have seen is very good and I also know of people that have crashed in them without any damage to themselves. And yes, like any manufacturer they have their high and lower spec items, and of course sponsered racers get their own specially designed suits that are better than what mortals like us can buy off the shelf. I do, however, think labeling them crap on a public forum without a bit more solid information is a bit unfair.

Hi. I've owned a 2 piece Dainese leather suit for over 10 years. Great quality and certainly recommended. Happily, I haven't crashed, but it is not crappy gear and I expect it would do the business as well as other leather suits.

I will take the word "crap" back, a bit OTT I admit, I was kinda taking the piss, however I will say that for the Big Brands in under the $2500.00 mark you are buying a name and not the quality garment I would expect for that kind of money.
yes I have seen top brand suits fall apart after the first crash, even this week we have been asked to fix a top brand italian suit (made in Vietnam) as its seams pulled apart after a crash, this doesnt surprise me.
I study the other brand products carefully and my belief that they are inferior to my brand stands strong, this is usually based on Leather thickness and quality as well as stitching quality and quantity.
I was in Strada motosport in Tauranga (our new retailer) and I ws looking at the IXION gear, the jackets where leather but paper might have offered a similair protection level, it was so thin it was a joke, the jacket looked Awesome, but it looked like very low crash quality, I see this alot when looking at the market competition.
As an example (only one) this is what you can expect from a QUASiMOTO suit.

Quoted from kickingzebra, one of our sponsored riders usint the old spec gear, since then we have upgraded in many areas.

"As the resident expert at crashing in Quasimoto gear, I would HIGHLY reccommend it... The list of crashes in one single set of leathers which look worse for wear but are still serviceable?

Manfield Lowside 160 kph
Wanganui, stoppy over the bars into haybales
Teretonga, 90 kmph lowside
Teretonga, 220 kmph lowside (with roll)
Taupo, Lowside 110 kmph
Taupo lowside 120 kmph
Manfield, Lowside 150 kph
Manfield, Highside 140 kph
taupo lowside 70 kph
and the most recent, taupo highside 160 kmph.

10 GOOD crashesd on one set of leathers?? That is MINT!
For the record I have only ever had to resew some seams twice."end quote

Jimmy Whitetrash could say the same extensive list, as well as a bunch of other racers and customers.

I know that for $1795, you will not be able to buy a set of leathers that will offer that kind of protection for that amount of crashes.
let alone a custom color custom fit set of leathers.

So I can stand behind my comments and to a great extent I have to, being 4 years in the business now, I have not had a negative crashed gear experience, Dianese or Spidi or Alpinestar couldnt say that, nor would they know as they are not as heavily involved in the NZ biking scene as we are.

in saying all that, I think buy what you like, what fits what looks cool to you etc, but do keep in mind its not all about that, its about not getting your skin scraped off !

2 pc Dainese going into year 15 without any special care and a couple of offs approx. 250,000kms in all weather paid $1500 would def. buy again. for wot its worth.

I bought 3 sets of secondhand leathers before finding a good fit. I recon it cost me as much as having new ones fitted, which would be my advice. Make do and save up for a decent set.

I have just ordered a new bike and if use my AB King pro every day, stop eating so much crap, and get my weight down 5Kg; my leathers may then be able to match the colour of my new bike (spare set too good to sell).
