View Full Version : Telling People to go "search"

James Deuce

Whenever you get the urge to tell someone, especially a n00b, to go search, for it has been done to death, and the Ancients are more than a little sick of seeing it repeated, PM me the search topic instead.

If it keeps getting asked about then it deserves a Wiki entry.

Like this Insurance one.

Thanks for doing the research on that Swoop.

It wouldn't be so bad if the search engine came up with some decent results. I'd rather ask than sift through pages of unrelated shit.

Could the search results start with results that are in the Wiki, then show the thread results?

Well done Jim2, I did a search on this very topic and came up with nothing. Good to to see you must have done the same, and wont have the mass's telling you that its been done to death already.

Remove any post containing the word "search" from peoples post count, that'll fix em... :msn-wink:

Jim perhaps you need to speak with Mental about putting the Wiki up on the Menu along with
Home ... UserCP ... FAQ ... Member List ... etc

Coz I haven't been able to find it in any links off the front page, menus or quick links at all. I didn't know where to look until your Insurance link.

I'm volunteering to assist with the Wiki, so if someone needs some help, just holler.

I did most of the initial layout, and a lot of content on this wiki.

We're still building the Wiki.

Content editing and format will change once we have a useful amount of content to start with.

It's isn't far off being in a reasonable ste. Thanks for the offer DB, we may get in touch in a month or two.

Jim2:
Got any "moderators" .. or at least people watching the recent changes rss?
I get a fair amount of spam bot activity.

Special:Ipblocklist and Special:Blockip may need constant attention in the KB wii ;)

Roger. I'm watching it daily. I try to do an hour a day.

I'm a dunderhead, I should have set up the RSS feed at work.

Just doing that now.

Credit Swoop with doing the Insurance stuff. He did the initial (hardest) stuff and I filled in a couple of gaps.

Once Krayy and Jim2 think it's in a presentable state I'll put links to the Wiki everywhere.

Linking the search engines is something that can be looked into as well. That would be most useful.

While you're PissingAboutWiddit, Mr MentalnessOfPants (Sir!), how's about a "New Posts" link on the main page? :spudwhat:

Jim2, you're a Good Cunt (tm). Thank you for your hard work.

I shall try and put some effort into the wiki myself.

I agree that once it has a modicum of reasonable content, it should be prominently linked to on the front page, and, if possible, searches that hit wiki articles should display them at the top of the list before they display matching threads.

I know it's the dredge from hell, and I know the Wiki was last updated on April 27, 2008, but it's too good a resource to go to waste.

James Deuce. Stunning work.

Wiki - pah - I find Urbandictionary.com more relevant to Kiwibiker discussions - an excellent source for crass thinks to call each other.
:oi-grr::oi-grr::oi-grr::oi-grr:

Good work there ;)
