I went for a blast with Andy1, my mate on a CBR1000 and Vladi on the R1 around the Coro loop on my Gixxer today. Everything was going real cool.

We had lunch in Coromandel or that township before that I think. Gale winds were blowing along the coast and rain was pissing down with gravel and crap around some corners. Still everything was cool. The pace was pretty insane but still we were within our comfort zones.

Comming back through the Kopu straights, we were blasting yet again, ringing the nuts off our bikes in top gear.

Hmmm... Still all was fine.

We then stopped at the Hunua petrol station to fill up just before going home. Then what happened? When I looked into my bagpack to check the time on my phone, there was nothing there! I had lost my f-king phone!!! :crybaby: I found out that my bagpack had developed a hole on it's side where the stiching had come undone because of wind resistance. The phone must have sliped off at the straights where I was redlining the bike in 6th gear.

Damn, I had just got that lil beauty from Singapore 1 mo ago too (It's still not available in NZ at the moment I think) and just last night I had put $40 in credit to "take advantage" of that double top up shit! Argh! :(

I was just letting you guys know to not bother ringing or texting me on my number as I have lost that number and all the contacts in it as well. I'll let yous know when I get a replacement phone.

Damn, that sux :(

Turns out it wasn't a total loss. Infact I have been sujested of a way to claim on it through house and contents insurance and paparazi has told me that I can still get my old number and credit back.

I feel all better now! :sunny:

One thing that I will do is fix up my old shitty nokia and take that on the rides. Oh yea, I'll burn that stupid bagpack and get a nice and strong streamlined one too.

Personally now i try not to take a back pack and if i do it gets bungie netted to the pillion seat, and the zips are taped up.

But bummer all the same on the loss bro

Mate, I could really give you a good reply but I am going home now.

Let's just say if anyone here who has seen me ride reckons that I am a threat to society or other road users when I am riding my bike on public roads with good reasons. I WILL do what it takes to not be a danger/threat.

As far as I belive however (this maybe biased, I don't know), I am only going as quick as it is safely possible with out being a/in danger.

Forget about the silly figures mate. I don't even have a speedo because I don't care for it. It is just about doing my best to ride well and safe to give my self a personal satisfaction.

sometimes when you're on the road, its not all about you... what about when a car with a 20 year old mum comes around the corner, freaks at some bike going like a maniac and runs off the road??? I know some insecure cage drivers that have these reactions... just coz you dont hit them doesnt make it right....

and if my child was in a car and the driver got freaked by a nutter on a bike and had an accident, i would hunt said nutter down and kill them. end of story. no bullshit... my daughter is the world to me and if anyone threatened her life.... cant even put into words what I would do....

again, just my opinion on why people should keep speeds like that on the track, or find tighter corners where you have to ride like a nutter to get close to the speed limit :niceone:

Yes thats your opinion, and thats fair enough, however as one of the guys who has ridden the most with MR, I have to tell you that he is one of the safer riders who I have ridden with.

At those speeds if you ride with some one, you have too trust them 100%,
and I have said many times that I trust Sudeep(MR) with my life..

I can understand were you are coming from re your daughter, I too have childern that I love.

What speed is okay ?, 100, the legal road speed, 120 ?, 150 ? 200 ?.

Would you comments also apply to a drunk driver in a car, a truck driver etc etc ?

got a job so have to go, will add some more shortly.

If the driver is insecure about driving, then they should not be driving.... The thing i like about riding with MR, is he is not balls out all the time.... Ive been on rides with other riders where there was no speedlimit and disregaurd for others safety (i havnt gone back on those rides)

Also the roads we generally go on (mainly SH22) is about 150km's long and i have been down there a few times without seeing A SINGLE CAR!!! And yes we find the twistiest roads we can, Coro loop is mainly 15-55kmh corners, and SH22 is mainly 45-55kmh corners with very few straights...

Although i can see where you coming from, this would be for populated roads... not extreme country back roads.... Also you cant single out MR, as you havnt seen him ride etc..... So anyway, back to being happy families :) ...

but when people say one thing to someone about speeding, and then condone it for others (not saying anyone did), I find it up there with religion... hypocritical.
where are all the people that jump up and down when a n00b comes here saying they did 200 on a public road??? why arent they here now?

yip gotta agree with TS,SM and FF Motoracer is a really really great rider. Never riding beyond his abilities. Have you ever gone fast??? I know i have and yet i know i am not riding outside of my abilities. MR abilities are quite impresive and so his safety bracket is quite high. But hey everyone is entitled to thier own opinion.

Yeah.... on a z900 on a 2 lane freeway in Aus... in '91... a bit over that actually, but i wasnt likely to scare anyone at the time I did it... was 4am and had the road to myself bar the trucks... didnt drop below 200 for 120ks

But what type of public road???? If someone said the did it on a back road out in the whopwhops, thats fine... if they say that the did 120 in a 50kay area, i personally will give them alot of shit, as that is stupid and dangerous (that is where i think about kids and the huge amount of variables.....

To become a good rider/driver, i believe that you have to train yourself to react in situations, and not too freak out. I have freaked once, and come out of it ok.. But i vowed never too freak again.... Ofcourse you have "oh shit" moments, but you should be reacting (not freaking or panicing) to get out of the "oh shit" moment

Blakamin

why? whats to stop another car using the road?????? thats why they are "public" and not a race track... means that anyone can use them... at ANY time... who knows what time that might be?

like I said in the first post

oh well, your funeral

unfortunately, the experienced drivers arent born... we still have learners and restricted drivers that are mothers, sons, sisters, brothers etc that might use a backroad to get experience.....

again... another stupid opinion... but its mine

6th December 2004, 21:03
OK... time for the story... I was driving back from wallaceville yesterday in the pink party van (LWB transit turbo diesel) over the hill, staying in my lane (coz I know what its like on my bike), below the speed limit by miles coz I had a few JBs on board, and I had my 1y/o daughter with me.... a car came screaming up behind me (mighta just been 18)... and I only have one mirror (see other thread)... well I think to myself "you're gunna have to wait till I can move over"... nope... goes to pass me, freaks when they see the guy on the bike screaming along in the other direction, almost run me and the bike off the road and fuck off sideways very out of control.... I was peaking by this stage... was gunna kill the cunt coz I braked so hard my baby woke up, luckily without whiplash (and it takes a lot to stop 5 jukeboxes), the guy on the bike wobbled a bit and fucked off on his merry way and here I am... the fukkas in the car, and the cunt on the bike (over the line, just, coz he was flyin) could have killed my baby.....
all this on some backroad out the otherside of upper hutt, coming back from picking up a jukebox.....
what if it was one of you? what if you bounced off the side of my pink van? what if I killed you coz I had to be on that road but was going so slow some cunt had to pass me? what if the idiots in the car had of hit the bike? what if?????

Its still a public road even if its out in the middle of nowhere, and it only takes a split second to die...

like i said before, nuthin personal, but it could have been carnage

You wanna know why I haven't said anything? Because MR is a genuine dude, who has admitted learning from mistakes in the past. He also contributes to this site rather than boasting about his exploits He's exercised the learning part of the cerebrum with this very post. Some people never do that, only to fade off into the entertaining history of the KB universe.

Trolls who pop up on here with tales of derring do and giving the cops the finger and racing off into the distance will always get a new one ripped.

We're all "hypocrites" (inc. the cops who ride bikes ;) ). Bikes give a fantastic impression of speed and gliding through the scenery at a rate of knots and dealing to challenging corners is what keeps us all coming back.

We're not allowed to condone speeding because that would be reckless and foolish, this is a public forum, and the legality of speeding is very, VERY clear. However common sense dictates that you'll never ever spend 100% of the time at or under whatever speed limit you're going through.

Anyway - what's up with you? Your team lose a one day cricket match or something?

Ms Piggy
7th December 2004, 06:58
I hate it when that happens! :crybaby:

I feel for ya buddy but, don't let it get you down or stop you going on and buying a new phone or give up on texting and calling others on a new one. I know it may not be as good but, don't despair!

Joni
7th December 2004, 07:01
At the end of the day everyone has the right to their own opinion, and I always repsect that. Thats part of being on a public site - we take whats going on in our own lives and our interpretations of whats being said by our fellow KB'ers and thats how we get such a collection of different people.

Same thing with riding above the speed limit - even though it is controlled by law, and opinion is not, (unless murder etc. is part of what you perceive as a norm in an opinion), a person still has the choice how hard and how fast he is prepared to push himself and his bike. However (lol in my opinion) BK is correct. There will always be circumstances where no matter how good you are (and we wont argue on MR's skill), you open yourself, and definately the others using the road with you, up to more situations where the end result cannot always be positive.

Blakamin

Another story with a happy ending was when Vladi lost his wet weather pants on the Waikato Ride #1 in the middle of nowhere and Quasie found it on the side of the road a few days later by pure luck or by his excellent spotting skills. Either way Vladi was fuckin lucky that time. I guess he wasn't so lucky when he lost his phone the same way I did later on...

The moral here is, be careful with securing your belongings when going out for a blat on the bike. I've learnt my lesson for sure and hopefully the rest of you lot who haven't had such experiences will know better, without having to learn it the hard way.
