Triumph New Zealand need to sharpen their fucken act up. I priced up a rear seat cowl, and a belly pan this morning -

Seat cowl $480 nz
Belly pan $835 nz
total $1315 nz

i have just ordered the exact same parts from the states for a grand total of $538 nz, thats $777 fucken cheaper, delivery in 5 working days, to my door!

I just did a deal on a new ABS Tiger from California saving $5k including shipping and GST.

The NZ$ to US$ at >0.80 was just too tempting.

Sadly, it's not just a Triumph thing - most bike parts are priced WAAAAY too high c.f. the prices available via the Interdweeb. :blank:

It's the new bikes that do my head in. It shouldn't be 20-25% cheaper to import a bike plus pay 15,000km of shipping plus GST, than it is to buy locally.

You can't blame the local dealers, as they don't fix the price.

its the same with most brands in NZ
i have found suzuki one of the worst for parts prices.
Honda have been the best but you have to shop around.
And it takes NZ dealers 10-20days to get stuff from japan!

No one had an aftermarket muffler for my Triumph TT600 in NZ and was quoted about 730 here plus up to 10 weeks wait!

Ordered one this week from the US for under 400 landed.
Plus a workshop manual for 220 here, got one off ebay for 40.

Honda have been the best but you have to shop around.
Not for me.
Almost invariably, it's, "Sorry - not in stock; three weeks ex-Japan, please pay up front!"
Examples: cush rubbers - gave up after 7 months, but originally they were $85+ (couldn't give a price). Got them ex-stock from the US, for ~NZ$20.
VTR1000 throttle position sensor: unavailable, but could order one for around $395. Got one PLUS two manual camchain tensioners for less than $400, in five days from the UK. The CCTs (aftermarket APE ones) were quoted at $185 by the only NZ agent, when they were listed at US$69.95.
I don't bother ordering even minor parts now, just get an order together with a whole bunch of little bits, order them, have them delivered to a mate in the US, and he forwards them to me.
However, non-Honda parts like chains'n'sprockets, tyres, consumables etc are all bought locally. I'd buy the whole lot here, but I'm not that mental. :crazy:

i used econohonda in the past, nice guy but slow to reply to requests.
I now use GP honda in Tauranga for both suzuki and honda parts.
They were cheaper for gen suzy parts than the suzy dealers! go figure!
problem with ordering bits from the states is they had to have sold those bike new over there, lots of jap market only bikes on NZ roads.
Firestorm is an easy one! try bandit250 or fzr250.!
So for local stuff i only call Gp in tauranga, dont even waste my time anymore getting quotes, those guys a fair and have the best service and i dont even live in Tauranga!

Never mind the price mate, the service is even worse. I had my spill on the 24th of November '07 and all parts were ordered by the end of the month. I have only just got my bike back thanks to having to wait 3 months for a few (minor ) bits. In future I'll be buying all my parts from the USA.

A guy I work with (Stampy, KBer) has a Speed triple and a Speed four (does that make a Speed seven?)
He buys his accessories from Jack Lilley in the UK, at a fraction of the NZ price and usually far better delivery dates
