View Full Version : Help please! Any chicks ride a ZX636R?

Meekey_Mouse

Hey gals,

I know I know... The only way to find out is to test ride it yourself... But I'm really keen on a 2006 ZX636R that is 5 hours away. My biggest concern is that it is going to be too big for me height wise, Im 164 cm's, I'm hoping to see it next week... but it would really help ease my mind if any chicks on here are about my height, have been on one before and could give me a rough indication of the size of them??

Many thanks,

Jas

I took the 07 zx6r out for a blat, it was not too bad Im 1.65 and yea the seat designs are quite narrow on the later models so you will be fine.

Do you know how they found the height? Were they only on one foot at a time, tip toes, balls of feet or flat foot?

I am wanting to get out there and try them but Taupo bike stores don't stock the kinda bikes I'm lookin at... And no zx636's

May not be quite relevent, but I'm 170cm and had no problems on a Ninja 600 back in the late 80s. Bikes have gotten smaller and lighter since then so I guess you'll be fine. Good luck!

I don't think I am :confused:Jas... please dont fall into the mindset of "I cant ride it if I cant flat foot on it". You can own any sized bike and ride it well even if you cant touch the ground flat foot. There's nothing wrong with a slight tippy toe at the lights as long as you keep it balanced.

Try all the different bikes you possibly can and ride them with confidence. Size and upper body strength have nothing to do with being able to ride a modern bike. You are young and can easily adapt to ANY size bike. Please dont let seat height and weight put you off. Most of all...Have fun test riding! :ride:

Doesn't Keeping a bike upright in windy conditions (At intersections when stopped) require a little more than 'tippy toes'?

No, not in my experience! Fark Im hardly a big woman and holding any sized bike upright has never been a problem for me. Being female has no relevance either.
Look at Shaun Harris. Im roughly the same height as him and look what he can do on ANY bike!

You only need to be able to securely touch the ground with 1 foot, which can be done by moving your arse sideways on the seat. I know I'm not a short arse but keeping a big adventure bike with a seat height close to 1m upright on slippery ground and in wind when stopping and starting isn't hard at all. It's just a confidence thing.

Hey Kel, I'm not worried at all about RIDING the bike or tippy toeing at lights  I'll be riding in a lot of places I don't know and usually by myself... So I want to know that if I go to turn around on a gravel driveway, I'm not going to drop it. I know by experience that if I drop a bike on a downwards slope with the tank facing down... I'm stuck :buggerd: it's physically impossible for me to pick that bike up. Even using all the techniques there are.
Also if I can't get both the balls of my feet on the ground at the same time, I feel very uncomfortable and unconfident whilst moving it around, even in the garage.

Even using all the techniques there are.No it's not tho. It may cause a few more scratches but you can turn it round and use the slope to your advantage. Better still...keep it balanced in the first place! You DID learn something from that drop at Waiketi....have you done it again??

Also if I can't get both the balls of my feet on the ground at the same time, I feel very uncomfortable and unconfident whilst moving it around, even in the garage. That's when you get off and move it around by walking next to it. Its easy! Like I say...you're young and adapting is easy. Trust yourself! I've seen you on the track and you have great skills!! Tell yourself you can and you will.

Aww thanks Kel :) I guess I just really don't have a lot of confidence when it comes to moving bigger bikes around. I'm totally not fussed about the riding part lol, although I will be a lil nervous on the test rides seeing as how I don't own the bike!

Aaron and I went up to Auckland today to look at different bikes, here's a quick review of what I found :)

07 CBR: Very tall and top heavy bike, didn't take it out for a test ride as it really really daunted me with it's size! I was doing well to even tippy toe both feet... Had to kind of swap a bit and do one foot on the balls of my foot.

Er6-n: I could touch the ground comfortably, but I didn't particularly like the upright seating position.

SV650: I was quite surprised with this bike. I thought it would be about the same height as the ER6, but it was quite noticeably taller... Or so I found.

07 R6: Same thing with the CBR, sat on it in the shop and was like :shit: no way. Both the CBR and R6 would still be incredibly tall for me even after some lowering.

04 ZXR.. Again, I found this bike very tall to the point I didn't ride it.

05 ZXR... I found this bike to be the best out of the above 4, but it was still very tall for me. It might of been ok with some lowering... but I wouldn't of had much confidence in it... Or at least, not for a very long time.

'07 GSXR: :woohoo: I sat on it and instantly I felt like I was home. I can almost flat foot this bike, I feel safe and secure on it and I don't feel like I'm going to drop it, even on kind of un-even surfaces! I took it for a test ride and it fits really nicely, it rides really smooth and the pipes  it sounds like it's growling :Punk:

So I've made up my mind and now all I gotta do is wait for the right bike to come up for sale

Hi Jasmine.

You do not know me but I am a girl. A very girly girl of a similer hight to you.

I had the same trouble when I was looking for a new bike too. I eventually settled on a Kawasaki Mountain Goat.

Here is one on Trademe you might be interested in

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Classic-vintage/auction-146765863.htm

I feel this would be the best bike for you and your current riding ability. With the low seat hight and small engine you will have control of this bike and I believe you would crash it very little

I have heard from a few very reliable sources that your bother is incredibly smart. Maybe you should ask him for advice on what your next bike should be? He would probably agree with me that the Kawasaki I mentioned earlier would be ideal.

If you choose the 600 (stupid bike, bad decision) I feel you will eventually start beating your brother around the track. This will be bad for your brother's mental health. You don't want to hurt your brother do you?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I've also heard your brother is extremely good looking.

Hey chicky! Pitty you're not in chch I have a 636R you could have viewed :) Man it's one bloody wicked machine, basically rides itself all you've gotta do is hang on lol. I'm about 171cms and can touch the ground with both the balls of my feet but I stop at lights with one foot flat on the ground no probs :)
Only problem with test riding one of these beasts is... you'll want one!

Haha road trips are all good and fun (some times... Mostly just good stories) and I'd definitely ride any where for an 06 or 07 GSXR... But I don't want to buy a bike only to find out I'll drop it at the first slanted intersection  so I need to be able to view the bike and leave with out it if need be... Which makes the situation slightly harder.

All rested and recovered after the trip? :jerry:

Awesome stuff chicky - great to hear you've found a bike you like. :2thumbsup

It is really hard when test riding bikes because generally the sellers don't generally lower them overly just for one ride. I only sat on my ZX6R (demo model) before buying it and I couldn't really touch the ground with both feet flat. Waited till I got its first 1000km service done before we tinkered with suspension etc, but that was brand new bike. I do know however that when I bought bike before that I had to wait until I got home before tinkering with setup to make it right for me - I mean I'm only 5 foot 4 in height and the guy I bought bike from was like 6 foot tall and over 100km so of course it wasn't set for me and my height or weight. Once you get bike home you can personalise it to suit you more and there are always after market parts to make things easier for you like lowering kits etc.

Hope you don't have to wait too long.

All the best in your adventures.

I'm 1.6m tall and own a 2004 636. When first purchased I was on extreme pointy toe to touch the ground - think ballet dancer on points! Have since lowered bike marginally so I've got more toe on the ground.

Due to the lightness of the bike - 160kg dry - the height factor isn't an issue (i've just come off a 205kg 1997 zx7r), plus the narrowness of the seat makes it a lot easier to touch the ground too.

As you're 1.64m you'll be fine!

I'm 168cm and ride a 2003 636. I can only get one foot on the ground and that is just my toes or ball of foot if lucky, but I find that my model is very well balanced and with a low centre of gravity so I have never had any problems.

I love my ZX636R!

Wow! Quite a few chick's out there with the 636's.. Awesome stuff!

I must say though... I am loving my gixxer :D it gives me so much confidence as even when the bike is stock... I can get at least the balls of my feet down (unless I'm in a dip). On different grounds I'm even nearly flat footing! I'm selling my 600 to get the 750 though as I think it will allow me to ride a lot lazier on the longer rides in the summer, although the 600 is a lot of fun :2thumbsup

Thanks for all the help and info on the 636 guys and gals but not really needed any more, have fun and ride safe!
