1984 - is it the last of the "D" models or is it one of the troublesome 4 valve "E" models? How good a nick is the XR200 in, because if its a "D" in good nick it would be fine for everything you want to do?
If its buggered, get another bike.

I had an XR200RE. Great bike. Just didn't like sitting at 100kmh all day and only held a small amount of oil so some owners ran them dry..... They didn't like that.

Its a 4 valve. we just have to get some heli coils done in the head because it is leaking oil between the rocker cover and the head. pretty tidy.

they actually hold a fair bit of oil 1.6 litres. mine is leaking around the head and after 3 days use in the sand it used about 800mls of oil which when it didnt have the leak would have lasted around 15 3 hour rides.

1.6 Litres is considered a small amount of oil. A lot of people bought these and rarely checked the oil let alone changed it. XR-RE's need frequent oil changes especially if being used on the road. I would recommend you buy something more suitable and already registered.

the old Honda RFVC 200 and 250 motors crack heads like it is going outa style.
My old 250 had 4 cracks running from the sparkplug hole to the valve seats.

I used to have a DT175 on the road. Not sure if the XR will be up to the long road km's after a while.
See if u can pick up a cheap little bike or road legal dirt bike.
