FXR - How tall is too tall?

Hey guys.
I have a mate who is looking to get into bikes but doesn't really have enough money to splash out on a bandit/VTR etc. He's 6'2" and as skinny as a reed; can any FXR owners out there let me know if thats too tall for the bike? I would get him to sit on one but all the shops around here are fresh out of them.

yeah he isn't a short one; is there a fair bit of room left over when your on it? Are you cramped? Because if its uncomfortable for you there's no way in hell he's guna fit :oi-grr:

I'm just shy of 6', for me it had beautiful ergonomics. I'm pretty skinny and light too. I think the biggest issue for a tall gent would be cramped legs, the pegs are high and mildly rearwards of your arse. Just slide back further on the seat, I suppose. Like EJ, I find the tank is a little wide, but I'm a little biased having been educated on my narrow-tanked current bike.

Heaps of other cheap options if he looks at some older bikes. Not necessarily any less reliable. CBX250, NZ250, streets ahead of the little FXR and available for similar prices.

When I got back into biking 5 years ago my first bike was an FXR. My height was never an issue with it and I'm 6 foot. What I would say to any FXR owner though is not to use the standard Suzuki rubber that these things came with. There's another tyre out there at about 60% of the price which is a much better tyre. Can't remember the brand though sorry.

Already tried, but he dosnt really like the look of them (or something ) :(

I might let him ride mine in a straight line and see what he thinks afterwards! I remember how it seemed to be HUGE when I first went on it :laugh:

GN250s seem to be a bit shit for tall people. I see quite a few go past with their rider's arse right at the back of the pillion seat. Looks quite uncomfortable.

if i may add my 2cents worth..i had an fxr as my first bike and i really wudnt recommend any other 150 to startt on..its a friggin awesome bike and has enough throttle to tittelate any new rider..however being that yer mate is 6, 2", i would tend to say he would be a little too tall for the fxr..i mean for daily communting and stuff he would be sweet but if he were to start going on rides, his legs would tend to cramp up abit which would lead him to pull more stops for wee stretches...other than that..the FXR 150 should be d' learner motorcycle anyone shud start on..then again im a little biased being a fxr owner..hope this helps..

I'm still trying to find one in a shop for him to sit on (argh!), but I probably will find a straight road and let him have a wee toodle on the GN and see if i can hook him on one :bleh:

In a week or two I will be selling an yamaha xs250 with new WOF and Reg for about $1700. Its not the flashest, but its a parallel twin (so more top end than GN's, FXR's) and its huge. I'm quite sure it would comfortably fit your friend. Drop me a PM if you are interested.

Sounds like me, I had no problems. It will never be as comfy as a bigger bike like my GS but it has a nice relaxed seating position and I rode mine on reasonable sized rides.

He'll also find it easy to lean off the bike and move around a lot.

He's just upped his budget a bit after I let him loose on my GN for a bit :woohoo:
