I've got the CL-14, which is really comfortable. Don't have a lot to compare it to, but it seems to be quite noisy (I understand this is a characterisc of most helmets). Fits well, and can feel the breeze through the ventilation spaces if it's a cold day (so I guess that means they work). Sometimes the visor does open a crack when I look back if on the open road though. Other than that a good helmet, which seems really light and is nice and comfortable.

I've got a CS-10. Pretty confortable, air vents work well, not sure if it's noisy because the bikes too loud, and it cost me 160 from maidstone yamaha. Looks good too.

I've got (or had) a CL-14. It fits my head well, good finish although still a little noisy at open road speeds. The earplugs take care of that. At normal city speeds (<100km) I find noise wise its good. It comes with removable cheekpads and breathguard. The air flows well thru the vents (top, front, side and exhaust). Also the vent covers are easy to open/shut with a gloved hand. And it doesn't leak in the rain. (AKL-TAUPO-AKL) :(

Also in my last bin it performed well, the visor didn't crack or fly open despite sliding on my face.

I have a 2002 CL12 which I think is the same as the later CS12 (HJC seemed to rename them when the new model - CL14 - came out). I find it pretty comfortable and I haven't had any problems with the visor lifting, or falling down for that matter.

The only issue I have is with the piece of padding which runs around behind the neck and ends at each side just below your ears. This creates a gap through which the wind whistles a bit. I noticed that the CL-14 has a different neck pad design, maybe to overcome the wind noise?

I would buy another HJC helmet, although I'd look at how much more a CL-14 costs as it has a few extra features such as adjustable cheek padding - useful if you wear glasses under the helmet.

Just read through the reviews. Gotta love the Merkins! Install the visor incorrectly, complain when it opens up at speed, and threaten to sue somebody!

Yes, there are a couple of tabs you have to check are under a "L" shaped piece of plastic when you attach a visor, but as they say, it ain't exactly rocket science!

I have one and am most impressed with it so far. Normally a Shoie fan but found the latest models just didnt fit anymore and the Raid had a very irritating liner. Would say its quieter then my old shoies too.

You could get yourself a new bike while your're at it to :2guns: but anyway, value for dollar reckon you can't get much better than HJC, I got an AC-10 and the visor lock is OK with my tint visor on when i look back, but the clear just flips up <_< morale of the story for me, don't look back, only interesting bit of scenery is the bit of tarmac in front.

I would use mirrors but my last crash bent the support then i snapped it trying to straighten it back  so no mirrors for me.

If you are sourcing it from the US, it is unlikely to meet the New Zealand safety standard. I don't know if that is and issue bringing it across the border tho.

The Darbi stand at Big Boys Toys had a really nice carbon fibre HJC that they are bringing in next year. (not sure if it was real CF or just coloured that way) but it looked real nice.

Gotta love that CF look:Punk:

Only thing I do not like about a lot of the new helmets is they are going back to the double D ring fasteners again. Personally I prefer a good quality easy to use button catch. Just simpler for us digitally challenged.

It's interesting how people's preferences differ! When I bought my CL-12 a couple of years ago I had a choice of D-rings or Catch fastener. I picked one with a D-ring system, partially as it was what I was used to, but mostly because I found the catch system bulky and uncomfortable.

I wonder which system is more popular?

catch fasters are going the way of the ghosts, since they arn't legal in some countrys, d-rings are, so thats pretty much coming the standard strange since d-clips started it catch fastener came in, but d-ring still won

I wonder which system is more popular? After having two helmets with catches, I initially found the D-rings a bloody nuisance, but now that I'm used to it, I find it OK.
I was under the impression that for racing only D-rings were acceptable, as they are more secure. :spudwhat:
When I first got my last AGV, the buckle design was different to the previous one, and for the first few months I had problems with it not fastening properly, and popping undone.

Part of the D-rings' usability hinges on the method used to fasten the loose strap. Mine has velcro with very small hooks (so it doesn't stick to everything) and it's very easy to secure: I just stuff the end in under the padding on the lefthand side of the helmet, where the other side of the velcro is on the other strap. My wife's Shoei Raid has a stupid metal clip that attaches to the D-ring, and it's almost impossible to use.
Can anyone who has a similar helmet or system tell me if they get easier to use as they wear in? If they don', I'm going to take the clip off and put velcro on it.

Cant you just cut the excess strap off and melt the end with a lighter ?

My CL-14 as a small elastic loop on the same thing as the D's, I then tuck the excess strap through the bad and back again, works well.
