Rust on Hyosung Gt250R...

Hi all,

I'm a noob rider, only been riding about 3-4 months or so and I have noticed that on the very bottom of my Hyosung GT250R '06 model, there seems to be rust on the exhaust pipes. Hard to see as it's right under the bike but it is there. I've also had to spray on that silver rust paint stuff on areas of the frame.

With the exhaust pipe rust, what sort of action should I be taking? Bear in mind I am not very experienced with bikes or vehicle maintenance in general. The rust doesn't appear to be right through as far as I can tell, what should I be putting on it? My flatmate suggested rust paint but I'm not sure what sort to get or how much it would cost?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want a quick fix for the exhaust, sand it back or spot blast the corosion and prime n paint. Remember to use high temp paint, it willl last a lot longer. another solution could be black guard, doesnt require you to remove the corosion and when dry paint over it (high temp).

You can just forget about it completely. You live in auckland right? shit rusts here... especially exhausts, and its not really a big deal.

I would be far more concerned with rust on the frame than on the exhaust, the exhaust is more likely to rust as it gets hot then cools often if ridden in the rain with water on it, no big deal really it just looks ugly.

Keep it clean, with a fresh coat of ice** on it, then it wont rust. For exposed metallic parts give them a quick zap with a clear rust-preventative. Once they are rusty you are rooted.
