Hi there.I'm getting married soon but we don't have a theme for the wedding.
We are both bike riders and we will have motorcycle riding freinds in attendance.
Been watching on here and thinking that perhaps the collective female brains of Kiwibiker could come up with some ideas.
Please come up with some ideas cos I'm all out.

What's this wedding thing you speak of?....

Hi ya!

LOL kinda gonna be in the same boat to a point. But I plan on having bikes play a small role in mine, more the grooms vehicle to and from the venue...
Something that could look cool though could be using a lot of black and Silver together, could give a nice "biker" colour effect!

Good luck!

A wedding is what happens when two people who share genuine joy in one anothers lives choose to join their lives inseperably together.

Im sorry if this seems to be a funny question.I'm asking the opinions of people who I was told thought outside the box.
I kinda thought maybee a 50's theme with the guys as Leather jacket, white shirts. The girls in Rock and roll style dresses.

Someone on KB'r must be able to suggest a Banjo player. That where this is headed.

Funny how a perfectly normal and innocuous question can bring so many morons out of the woodwork, huh?...

When I got married I had a limo taking me to the church but I had a motorcycle escort, with riders in front and behind it, all the way there. It was very cool. Bikes all parked up along the front of the church was awesome, and it was actually really fun to have the riders all there in their leathers, mingling with the posh frock and hat brigade!

As for the theme, you haven't said whether or not you're planning to have a low-key do or a high profile one,or what resources you have. One of my friends had a "biker wedding", all black lace and leather, civil ceremony in a park then a BYO barbecue with lots of rock music. We all just went as ourselves, on our bikes, and everyone had a fantastic day and night.

Whatever you decide to do, it will be awesome, because its YOUR day! If your ideas feel right, they probably ARE right. Go with your gut, and do what you want.

Thank you Max.
The plan is for a biker escort to the event. Then ceremony in a park. Then a smallish (35 or so people ) sit down dinner in a place very nearby.
Thinking dressyish but a theme would make deciding that stuff heaps easier.

don't be put off by the catcalls from the peanut gallery ginny ..... haven't got any sensible suggestions to offer, but do wish you luck with it

..... after seeing what a mission it is, tying the knot, the bloke and i have more or less decided to elope/say the words on a stretch of pristine beach somewhere at daybreak and just throw a bit of a party for the troops next time we are over there ........

why dont you have a white leather wedding dress?

Ok so maybe a tad tacky but still totally awesome right?

Or even better, white leather corsett and lingerie set, the g-string might be a bit unconfortable but worth it aftewards ah?

ok so i'm really no help at all. Good luck for your wedding thou and congrats

As for theme, the starting point really is how you want to look, yourself! If you want a meringue dress, or a black and purple lace one, for example, that could help set the tone for the overall theme for everyone else. Start by working out what YOU want to wear, and see what flows from that. 50's rock and roll is real easy, and its always great because it gets the girls in gorgeous dresses, and the boys in rocker gear, it wouldn't be out of place whatever you were wearing yourself, the music is really cheerful/romantic and gets everyone dancing, and you could maybe get a few Rodders with cars from that era to cruise along with you for a while too.

Have you come across this NZ website about themed weddings? http://www.nzweddingplanner.co.nz/bridal_tips/themed-weddings.htm I tried to do a copy/paste but it just came up with a dialogue box regarding it being copyright material so you'll just have to follow the link.

Hope it helps and I hope you have a great day.

:first:hey ginny congradulations! awesome! whatever you do dont jump on the back of a bike with a full wedding dress on! I caught a Dr Phil show a while back (I know shoot me now) and a bride jumped on the back after the vows .. well dress got caught in back wheels .. turns out the couple were on there for Marriage Councelling  (I must say it was kind of funny .. poor love) hey the rock n roll theme sounds premo! dont follow the sheep .. we all got brains and creativity so might as well use them! Ohhh white leather wedding dress reminds me of Billy Idol for some reason! But hey something low cut short n leather I reckon would be awesome plus others will have fun dressing up! bit of a grease/t-birds/rock n roll thingy going lol sweeet .. good luck! and have loads of fun with it! Ohh you could get some raunchy sexy wedding shots of you & new hubby strategically positioned on your bikes! let your imagination run willlllllldddddddddd!

origionally thought about a white leather race suit with a veil stuck to my helmet. Only one slight draw back. My folks don't know I ride :gob:

Ceremony is in the garden of a historical restaurant. Could go with a theme from the early 1900's. A costume would be cheaper than a wedding dress. Only found one I like so far and it is $1700!!!!!

Hi Ginny, congratulations. If you want to keep to a motorcycle theme, you could try something like Mods & Rockers. What part of the country are you getting married in? We have had quite a few weddings at our place this summer, all different but all with a tropical flavour.
I'll pm you our website if your interested.

What sort of clothes would people wear in a 50's theme?

See if you can get hold of a Rock n Roll club in your area. They would be able to give you ideas about costumes, music etc.

What sort of clothes would people wear in a 50's theme?

1950's think Grease (the movie!), with the full feminine skirts little tops and cardigans, or full-skirted dresses with fitted bodices and bobbysox and sneakers OR skyscraper heels. For the boys its anything goes, with a black theme usually, fitted straight or drainpipe jeans/leather trou and a t-shirt, sneakers or black boots/shoes. Tons of slick-wax for the hair, that sort of thing.

You gotta have the music to go with it. Spend a few bucks on a bargain Warehouse double 50's rock and roll CD to get the feel for the theme.

Its cheap and cheerful, and a lot of fun. But there are so many other options too, so just weigh up the ideas you have, and get, pick one that you love and run away with it! The period costume sounds great too - what about having your do as a medieval banquet? Do up the venue like a castle, have some idiot juggling and doing other crazy stuff in a corner somewhere with a mad jesters costume on, get a spit-roast company in to cater to the guests and get everyone to eat with their fingers! Employ some game students as wait-staff done up like serving wenches, etc filling people's glasses out of serving jugs. The traditional music for that kind of thing is pretty dire, but nobody says you can't put your own twist on that.

We did the whole black and white theme for our wedding. My bridemaids wore black and I was in white and the men were all in black, it made all the photos really good and as we got all our guests to also only wear black and white. Might work with the 50s theme too?
Good luck with it all.

am about to start pulling my hair out I think. Too many decisions, not enough time. Can't even decide if we go traditional or all out theme.

Have managed to find out the venue was built as a hotel in 1860. It was for the timber mill workers. Would love to tie everything into the building.

Garden wedding, bridesmaid with a basket of flowers, guys in gray top hat and tails. Lots of roses and ivy and candles for later when it is dark.

:bleh: one little way to cope is just to take yourself right out of the wedding preparations for a little bit. Go and pamper yourself .. get a facial .. a sauna .. a massage .. better yet go for a ride! ease your mind a little .. then you can go at it like a bat out of hell fully recharged! .. and have some bloody fun with it girl .. wayyyy to much commercialised burden has been placed on such a special day .. I know, easier to say it when your not the bride .. been the bride .. can speak on the stress lol .. thinking of ya in your time of need! :2thumbsup

Good advice there

And generally the Mother of the Bride has taken over anyway

Best move we made was to go tramping for a week before our wedding

Am trying to tie it into bikes. How about bikers and guardian angels?

Guys dressed all in black except for waist coats or ties with bikes in. Young brides maid with pale dress, halo made of flowers and gossamer type wings.

Place card holders on the tables will be bikes for the men and minatire angels for women.

Any other ideas folks?

I think that sounds great. Girls do love dressing up and feeling pretty.....

Read about a wedding were the bridesmaids arrived on the back of bikes (not sure what the helmet would do for the hair).

:2thumbsup there is so many things you can do! hehehe .. what about a 'bike of honour' .. motorcycles lining the isle (if its outside) man that would rock .. work in your favourite colour into the colour scheme to .. I love the angels theme .. even the celebrant/prist might wear leathers lol that be cool!wedding cake wow you could do so much there .. a motorcycle cake .. or even a motorcycle wheel for a cake! lol you know .. tyre .. circle .. eternity .. never ending stuff .. ohh I still think the raunchy wedding photos on motorcycles would be a fantastic way to go! the cardholders are a great idea to! and the bikes can be intergrated into the table centre pieces as well .. but! a good idea to is to keep things simple .. theme yes, color yes .. its all to enhance the occassion .. not take away from the reason of the day .. a union of love!

You could do it similar to how McLeods Daughters did one of their weddings, having the bride and bridesmaids turn up on bikes. If you are having it in a park that would work out well. Would all of your guests want to dress up in theme? I would have thought the engagement party or the rehersal dinner would be where everyone dressed in theme but the wedding itself where everyone looks their best. Black leather wedding dress? Or if you are confident in white leather then go for that! Or just the corset and a material skirt (leather could be quite bulky). Best wishes though! How exciting! I need to find a man before I even start thinging of my own weddding

Not sure how practicle that would be for the kids in the wedding party or for ridding in dresses

Actually the females would be dressed like angles.
Check out the two pics below for the flower girl. Would do the wings and dress in a pale lemon or pink i recon.

Yep right decision. Theme weddings can get a bit tacky if not done right.

Have a great day every day............. forever.
