Installing regulator/rectifier - Help

More help needed again.

Not being too interested in paying $250 for a SGP reg/rec a friend said that I could get a universal one for about 120-140. Sounds much nicer I thought. My concern is though, how easy will it be to whip the crapped out one off and replace a nice shiny new one? I have the service manual on PDF which I am hoping may help too.

What dumb things could I do to stuff if, or even worse, the bike if I do something wrong?

Also, does the fixing/fiddling ever stop?:doctor:

you can get aftermarket ones that plug straight in, take the fucked one to an auto sparky or a friendly bikeshop, they should be able to point you in the right direction, i got one for my 996 for about $180, instead of $400. (it came from a place in new plymouth if i remember correctly)

Other option is to buy a second hand one of trademe.

Have you checked to make sure you havnt buggered your coil, and that your reg/retifier unit is actually fine?

Not sure about colours - it's still on bike. Will check, when I find it (or rather make sure it is what I think it is)

Coil? What that do, my hair is curly enough already. Which is worse to be fecked?

Reg/rec? It has 2 yellow wires and one red which seems to be coming our from behind it and one black one from the left side and heads upwards somewhere?

Right, after talking with the lads and SportZone in CHCH, they gave me a great price for a SGP reg/rec. This was 'cos they didn't find the fault in first place and me being a little grumpy that a newbie like me could...

So, what I'm going to do is video my attempt at replacing this and it will either be a "How to" or "How not to" video for any other non mechanical newbie who finds themselves in my situation.

Stay tuned my what will hopefully be my success story....Same bat channel!

That's 3 yellow from the stator, 1 red that goes to the battery positive terminal (possibly via the starter relay), and one black that goes either to earth/ground or to the battery negative.

If it's the same as the one you're pulling off, then it's a matter of undoing/doing up one bolt and undoing/doing up one connector. It'll be pretty hard for you to mess it up!
