Hey guys and gals,
Doing a project in web design at college where we get to make a site (who would have thought eh). Anywho we don't have to publish them, but to me that seems like a complete waste of time so I am gonna publish mine, hence the need to make it worthwhile. I've decided on making a site where you will be able to find all the usual junk mail (warehouse, noel leemings, dse, countdown etc) in one place in an easy to manage format without taking half an hour to load if your on dialup. It will have a place to subscribe to a mailing list to recieve a notification when a new piece of junk mail is uploaded that you like. Also thinking about putting up a donate page and also approach different regional councils to try and be able to provide free "no junkmail please" stickers (or highly subsidised). Do you guys reckon anyone would be keen on the idea and would actually sign up and what not. Completely free and all that crap (even for the companies that could potentially save millions a year in advertising).
Any comments suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Matt

Make it free to start with then when you've got a few people hooked add some modest charges. Once the furore dies down sell a bit of advertising and start charging the companies aswell. When you hit a million or so users you can do petty much as you like and sell it for a mint. At least that's what tardme did.

i was thinking maybe put an advertisment down one side, and try and hit the companies up for donations once the number are slightly up to cover bandwidth and stuff

I chose NO because I've enough forums/emails/google searches to check out in my already busy day so one dedicated to all the chain stores latest advertising gimmicks is low down on my priority list.
I think its a good idea though but people are still quite ok with having a quick browse of the latest 'junk mail' brochures on the short stroll to the rubbish bin.
I can see the next generation of shoppers being interested though and it'd be nice to be e-mailed when the next Plasma TV etc. [at bargain prices] promotion happens.

Exactly. What the hell are they teaching people in Universities these days? Sorry Monorail, but you're going to have to do better than this.

fact is if someone wants to look for specials online they are going to go to the ecommerce sites of the suppliers that they know.
Want a TV - go to the Harvey Normal site, or Ferrit - they wont go to a third party site to see if there is a special then go to the shops site.
Sorry dude - your concept is simply not a flyer. (pun intended).

Believe it or not, some people actually like reading junk mail! I'd say they must be in the minority though. My daughter used to deliver junk mail and some of the people on her 'run' used to enjoy getting it. Beats me! I throw it all in the recycle bin!! I'm one of those people who probably should have a 'no junk mail' notice on the letter box but refuse to pay for it..

Porn and gambling are the major money earning websites. Maybe you could combine the two for extra credits? www.nudepokerstars.co.nz ?

I don't receive junk mail ... so if it was free I would like to see it online by picking which ones I see.
