The organisers of the Dakar rally hope to bring the event back to Africa by 2012.
Amaury Sports owner Patrice Clerc said the race would return ‘when security was not an issue’. The 2009 race will be held in Argentina and Chile – the first time in the event’s 30 year history that it has not been held over the traditional route.
