View Full Version : AUCKLAND CITY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE!!!!!

In the Herald.
Auckland city is scheduled to close by the end of 2005 as the noise from the city is itself reaching levels to high for the safety of its citizens.
Councilors meet yesterday and came to the conclusion that if the city cannot guarantee not to eceed 0.01 decibels then the city would have to close.
Right honorable mayor Mr Hubbard is continuing his campaign to encourage Aucklanders to wake up and be still!! Mr Hubbard "its just not right that a large number of people can enjoy themselves at the detriment of a few, we need to all be quiter in our cities approach to events and the way we live, for example I myself have banned children from my home due to the noise they make and will be taking a wider few of this policy in the coming months for the city".
The story goes on...................
Oh my god what a bunch of mindless dickheads you have up there
I heard on the radio that western springs is now shut due to a band of selffish do gooders with no life. Western springs is a international Icon in the speedway world and because a few neighbours who brought there houses next to a speedway decided they dont want it there.
V8's are gone, whats next ? are we truly wanting to close every public event that is deemed to be noisey even if that event is very in frequent (every Sat night is infrequent in my few 1 night a week if that)
NZ is becoming a boring place with these soughts of moves and its not bloody on!!:angry2: :angry2:
Oh and dick Hubbard you are aptly named "DICK" and your serial is banned from my home ya tosser:finger:
thats my gripe for the day

Right anyone with a quiet bike is hereby ordered to go out and get a new set of pipes. Then we need to start all rides from Dick Hubbard's house (anyone know where it is?). Rides will no longer be scheduled for 9.30am starts. Instead we will have several scheduled start times, i.e 1am, 2am, 3am, a gap to lull him into a false sense of security, then 4.30am, 5.00am etc. Burnouts are highly encouraged.

hey guys n gals heres a different viewpoint on things.
MNZ rules say -a motorcycle may not exceed 95 dba -responsibility for that noise level is up to the rider but will be policed.
The speedway drivers have the same rule--its been there for years.
Start of season the DBA meter comes out and the cars are checked.
yea then the guys start ripping out disks from their supertraps to get a better exhaust flow --or the quieter muffler comes off to be replaced by one looking the same but with no innards.
I ain't arguing for a second that 30 people out of 35000 in the local area are right . I agree they moved next to the speedway not vicey vercy
But shit if the noise meter was used at every meeting i bet there would be a shit load less complaints. -For that matter a shit load less to complain about.
Also no real attempt has been made by the landlord--Auckland city Council to look for alternatives--noise sheilding on the hill to replace the pine trees the council cut down etc
-I'm not one of those wingers BTW just hearing it from a different prospective.

Thats it i'm taking the baffles out of the duc. It's a protest thing now. They closed down forrest lake hamilton ,bay park MT maunganui, stopped the V8 street race when will it end. If your not into motor sport don't buy a house next to the track.People should be vetted to see if they are worthy to be neighbors of the race tracks.

I think it's more that Marxist dickwad Hucker who's the culprit than Dickie boy who is just..well...bewildered.....
Western Springs has been there for more years than I can remember and has always had noisy motorsport. The reason for the noise becoming an issue is real simple: demographics. There's still a lot of "State housing" around there but generally the area has become more "gentrified" these days with values going up in line with surrounding areas like Grey Lynn and Point Chev and Westmere where you can fork out half a million$ plus for a tired old bungalow. So now you've got yuppies (or dinkies or muffies or whatever the fuck the current acronym for affluent young professionals is) living where it used to be very blue collar..and blue collar people are more tolerant of the sound of noisy motorsport and the smell of racing fuel than the latte-sipping pooftas :buggerd: who are the current source of whinging about the noise. These pricks are also better at organising themselves as a lobby group. It's PATHETIC. IT'S CONTEMPTIBLE .I HATE IT. :Pokey: WHERE'S THE DEMOCRACY IN IT???

The environmental court is responsible I would have thought? Not the local Mayor. (I just can’t be angry with him, he makes such nice food).
Think the limit was 83dB I heard on the radio. But sound is a funny thing. Where it is measured, how far away, what the clouds are like etc. But how many vehicles at a low limit with a cheering crowd will go over this limit?
Basically people are a bunch of whining doofices. They should all be slapped with a wet fish & told to get on with their lives. :ar15:

For the record:
The springs has been there for 75 years.
79 residents signed the petition to shut it down.
This, on top of the recent spate of new inner city apartment dwellers noise controlling the night clubs, including 'The Met' the previous weekend and 'Centro' earlier in the year (shutting down international DJ Stacey Kidd's act).
The madness goes on.
I'm tempted to noise control 'Christmas in the Park' (I can't hear my freakin' speedway over the whiney carrolls!) just to get back at these supposed 'ordinary citizens' and give 'em a taste of their own...

Actually, from what I know (we've been working with the Env Health guys from council on this) Auckland City council have wanted to keep Springs open... well that was the case until Dick Hubbard got on board anyway.
Truth of the matter is council haven't handled the speedway issues very well over the last 15 years and I think they've let it get a little out of hand to the point its at now. Yes, people were complaining but provided Speedway complied with the limits they would've been able to keep running all they liked (are they actually closing it or just waving huge fines over their head if they exceed?).
Interestingly, there is a pretty big push from within the speedway drivers to get their vehicles complying because they love racing there and don't want to miss out on the venue. lazy guys that do dodgy stuff like not repack their muffler before each meeting are being given a pretty hard time by the serious runners I understand. Speedway have also been paying acoustic engineers to monitor the cars so they can get the noncomplying ones pulled out.
So although Council and speedway have been trying hard of late, I think it might be a little too late now that Hubbard is starting to get in on the act. Shame really

nah, screw the night clubs! They're much worse than speedway because speedway are trying hard to meet the limits. The nightclub owners just don't give a damn and aren't willing to cough up the money to get a decent acoustic performance out of their buildings so they can meet the limits and please the clubbers. Shutting them down is the only way the owners will change their attitude and start investing in their businesses (have you heard the whining maggots complain about unreasonable noise limits?? They should try set up a club in NSW or VIC like they do in Auckland!!!)

nah, screw the night clubs!!!) <snip> ...
The point being there *are no limits* = it all comes down to 'officer's opinion', which is BS. A club proprietor could spend a lot of money on their business, only to fail a 'noise test' again, because some low-life noise control officer is having a bad hair day.
Notwisthanding the situation with the 'springs is still the same = the clubs/speedway were there first, it's completely unreasonable for people to knowingly move next door then complain about the noise.
The only potentially good thing I can think of about shutting down speedway at the 'springs, is with Hampton Downs race track going in near Meremere, they could put a speedway down thaterway as well and move the Manuakau super stage and the Maramarua Rally School down that way as well. A big motorsport super area, with it's special rules along the lines of 'here's a big area we've put aside for motorsports. If you don't like motorsports, don't live there'

This new 85dba rule is a kneejerk reaction -thats 85 dba at 25m from the fence
The old rule was an INDIVIDUAL reading 2.5m from the car (dont quote the exact distance)
Frowning on a guy because hes a "rebel" is utter CRAP
FFS the organisers had access to noise meters. A lot of guys flout the noise rules. -actually Id challange any competitor mid season to be certain his car complies.
The rules should have been enforced. --More than 95dba and black flag--any race any time. -its really a no brainer.
keep in mind that was 95 dba x20 cars
They have talked about use of a control muffler --Ie no supertraps but i think they played into the wingers hands by ignoring the bloody rules.
And again -Why in hell did the council so helpfully cut down a natural sound deddener-the pine trees on the hill
Why dya think the guys running the meetings at pukie have a strict no start up till 10am and shutdown by 5.00pm -to avoid just this frigging attention
Has it gone too PC-fucken aye -but pop the bird often enough and someones gonna bit ya fingeroff

just as well im not mayor, id tell em to all bugger off. as said before, springs has been there for 70+ years and the people moved there in full knowledge of the speedway. i personally think tough shit, 79 people against something like about 10 or 20 000! what ever happend to democracy!
thats it, now i an't gonna ever change from second gear when around there. thats provisional to the fact of me getting my new pipe working right!

Sorry dude, but I've got a few corrections to make!
Mate Im sorry --Now I Love speedway don't get me wrong here
This new 85dba rule is a kneejerk reaction -thats 85 dba at 25m from the fence
Nope, 85dBA at 10m (I spent a couple of nights up there measuring for myself!). The 85dBA rule has actually been in place for quite a few years now (not sure how many but at least 6) but its only been in the last few seasons since the frequency of racing has picked up to their limit in the resource consent that its been a really public problem.
The old rule was an INDIVIDUAL reading 2.5m from the car (dont quote the exact distance)
Dunno about that (quite possible) but whats really screwed them is that some numb nut councillor changed the limit on the speedway some years ago without knowing what the hell they were doing... so what was once compliant is now non-compliant. (give that man a beer :kick: )
Frowning on a guy because hes a "rebel" is utter CRAP
FFS the organisers had access to noise meters. A lot of guys flout the noise rules. Which is precisely why they're having problems! The drivers seem to be accepting the idea more now that there are limits that have to be met and that they just CANNOT have mostly open pipes if they want to race at Western springs. Heck, if Puke was having the same problems becuase some tosser wanted to run his Duke around with open pipes, I'd be pissed off at him too because he's making enemies for both of us because he's selfish!
-actually Id challange any competitor mid season to be certain his car complies.
The rules should have been enforced. --More than 95dba and black flag--any race any time. -its really a no brainer.
Yeah, the rule enforcement has been woeful so while it should've lowly been getting tightened down, its now hit crisis point all of a sudden.
Unfortunately 'exceeding limits' its not a no brainer. Sound readings are kinda complex things to get right (which is why no one in the public arena understands what the hell is going on!). Too much wind, a single backfire... its easy to go over the limit once while still having a compliant car.
They have talked about use of a control muffler --Ie no supertraps but i think they played into the wingers hands by ignoring the bloody rules.
yup, control mufflers are being developed but they're having getting a uniform decrease in power across the cars so some drivers don't like it (something obscene like a 10% decrease for some and only a 3-4% decrease for others I think)
And again -Why in hell did the council so helpfully cut down a natural sound deddener-the pine trees on the hill
Why? because it wouldn't make any difference. All trees do is stop people from seeing the noise, the trees themselves make F/A difference for stopping noise.
Why dya think the guys running the meetings at pukie have a strict no start up till 10am and shutdown by 5.00pm -to avoid just this frigging attention
good call. Not sure why they don't run the speedway events during the day instead of in the evening because I'm sure that would pacify alot of the residents and would completely eliminate peoples compliants from distant suburbs (higher background noise during the day etc etc)
