Sigh. We'll probably go for ride out of town that weekend.
Cage racing doesn't really do it for me, particularly a contrived class such as the "Aussie touring car", but I accept that there are many in west Auckland who have a view different to mine.
What Wellington really needs is a purpose-built motorsport venue. If as much dosh were to be thrown at Te Marua (for argument's sake) as would be invested on a one-off event in the city, than wouldn't that be a better result?

If they were to start developing Te Marua, The Professionals would be bitching about it ruining their new subdivision because the new venue would be too noisy, and they would win cause they have enough money and power to win over our stupid council. Those bloody demons in red blazers are taking over our bloody town and theres not a bloody thing we can do, well, at least we can 'legally' do:shifty:

Good points. I had forgotten about the Gillies and Marks subdivision up the hill. How long then until stock cars are no more?

I can recall watching the practice sessions (in the rain) a few years back, when the race allowed cars like the Sierra Cosworths and BMW's.
The Sierra's were coming on to Jervois Quay, and wheelspinning past Frank Kitts park all the way up to the turnoff to Cable Street.
I don't give a fig if they are cages, that they stuff up the traffic and that its bloody noisy.
Bring it on...

Bikes or cars I love them all, except I have no interest in open wheeler cars. I enjoyed the street race while it lasted - really enjoyed Pirro in the BMW in the early days. The last race was memorable for the performance of Joe McAndrew in the Legacy - for a few laps at least until he buggered a tyre.
The one and only bike street race we had there was a bit intimidating for the boys all those walls and armco everywhere and it never happened again.

Talk about support races, remember the carnage in those celebrity challenge races?

It's just a pity it's the "chickenshit formula" (as in, Australian car builders are too chickshit to compete against competant car makers).

Its got my vote!!
Dont they race the nationals (Motorbikes) at the same time in a few of the V8 rounds??
Think of the possibilities!!

I've watched this play out over the last few weeks, and the blamestorming and parochialism has hit new lows for a country that doesn't rate on any sort of International scale.
The patriotic amongst you may be aghast to find that other country's news agencies waste little time on New Zeland, except when we make amusing or naive blunders.
Once again, decisions are being made on a short term intra-election cycle basis, with a particualar bias on the amount of money being made for the local ratepayers.
I can't pledge support to something that has its basis mainly in spite or malice.

Good luck to them working through the process and actually getting the street race in Wellington. I'm all for it. Getting some bikes out there too sounds like a good idea!
