View Full Version : Some m*therf*cker stole my Buell (Auckland, 2 April)
Badcat
2nd April 2008, 10:04
well - last night some lame fools stole my xb12x.
parked in a locked garage (apartment building)
reg number 79 ZEG
VIN 5MZDX03J263700844
It's black - with michelin PR2s (new of course) and has an australian ECU (of course i just had it all dyno mapped)
the only thing not standard is the ECU - as i replaced the jap one it had - i have the serial number if needed - but i doubt the bike will surface, it was obviously stolen to order ...
early this morning (02 April) 4.30 AM - orange van broke in and loaded it up.
i will view the camera footage today - i'm told we have almost the whole rego.
if anyone has a lead, i'd be keen to hear it. and i will follow it up -if you get my drift.
i'm a bit ticked off, just quietly.

How are they able to pinch bikes apart from loading them? Jumpstart? Also what if the steering is locked?

2nd April 2008, 10:16
Post the van rego if you get the chance... there's a number on here that may be able to look it up... We can keep an eye out for that too (bike might be chopped/painted etc ... but less likely the van will be - and it's easier/bigger to spot... slower/easier to follow...
Which part of Auckland was it?
Any chance of getting a clever dick to post that security footage online? Might be fun to see what we can do with it (ID people, the van or whatever). Who knows... but nothing ventured nothing gained.

If one thing tips me over the edge, it's thieving scum, especially given what doesn't happen to them in the courts.

If he only has a partial rego, then it'll be up to the cops to run the search. Still, can't be too many orange vans around unless that's stolen too. Probably has fake plates as well.

All good. I'm running on the theory that all information has value - who knows if anyone on here can use it in some way.
The orange van is a stand out feature like you say. Curious to see what kind it is too - between make/model (year?) and colour there won't be many, so even a partial match on a plate if I see it on the road could be interesting.

Here's hoping you catch the bastards. Theft is awful... But at least you got security footage - the little cunts probably didn't think of that (either that or they're damn ballsy in which case they're liable to fuck up somewhere along the line and then you'll have 'em...).

Dude, if some mofo wants the targeted bike, there is very little that we can do to stop them. Alarms/locks/chains etc...they're all preventative measures but to professional crims' this is there job and they will stake out the premise (and you) and get any equipment they require for the job.
Some friends of mine had there business broken into just recently and the effort the crims' went too, to clean out the place was incredible!

It's pretty ridiculous how all these theiving cunts are popping up in Auckland.
I will keep a look out but being stolen, it's highly unlikely they're gonna ride it around considering it's got a chipped ignition.
Trust me, you can never be too careful with your bike, insure it, wire/chain lock it, disc lock it, add an alarm and ground anchor it if it needs to.
Last year I remember some guy got his nice Harley taxed, and it was like a similar scenario where's its locked up in a apartment garage. What he found that it was most likely an inside job, so keep your eyes peeled on those gatekeeper/security chumps.
Like I say everytime in these posts, our uni motorcycle club has a txt-to-bash scheme set-up last year to combat those opportunists. Just let us know, we'll be in to give them a bash.

This is all a bit sad. Apparently, the pleece don't put much effort into investigating motor vehicle thefts now because they don't have the resources and because MV thefts are so common. It's nuts!
What's the total value of the theft here? Two bikes and a van - $60k at least? If there was an armed robbery of this magnitude, or someone doing 100km/h over the limit, they'd be all over it. And what's really galling is that you have a video, and they're still disinterested in investigating.
Things are pretty fucked when more resources are put into enforcing speed limits than into crimes like this.
But you knew that. :zzzz:

How did you go with identifying the access control device used?
If you post a pic of the access control device or can describe it to me along with a description of the reader head, I'll tell you whether it has an archive.
Be aware, many access control systems have very limited buffers, therefore the card access information may be overwritten in a day, otherwise it could be years if it's a good commercial system. You need to get the building manager to extract the info ASAP.
How else can the gate be opened? Is there a Push Button or does it tie into an intercom system with a handset button release?
Also, Have you considered talking to the council? You'll generally get good assistance from them. There isn't too much traffic on the roads at that time, tracking the vehicle via the councils city wide camera network could be interesting.
I find it interesting that the cops don't consider this a top priority, If this is an organised ring then its operations could run into the millions. Even with that possibility the cops still don't seem to be proactive? Not a good look. Definately would make a good TV article.
How's the video footage coming along?

Are all bikers honest? This is the problem - nice bikes stolen, just like us KBs like to ride. The thieves have to sell the bike to someone and the buyer must know or suspect it is hot. Wot are the odds that someone on KB knows the thieves or future buyer. And how many kbs are riding hot bikes?
My point is - theives have to have a market to sell the bikes to and if all bike riders were honest there would be few bikes stolen.

yep - current thinking is that someone in my apartment building stole it - or tipped off the thieves. i will find him.
have all the footage now - logging it tonight for the cops and will get it up on youtube soon.
Thought about the 10-7 show?

Dude, that is chilling. To se these lowlifes come in and rip the bikes off. Like it was the most natural thing in the world. These guys knew exactley what they were doing. No opportunist stuff here. Somehow they had got the info. Wonder if the Buell was not what they came for, but then decided to grab the other one too while there...
What a wakeup call!!!
Here is hoping that this will get someone to tell you something that will get these bastards!!

Just a thought the vid were the two guy walk in heads covered then one in the black walks back he looks like is is on a mobile which would have to workin of a tower close by givin time of morning it was may be traceable as there is a time clock on the video as well to cross match times long shot but could be worth it also they kinda look rather youngish

Might be killer bees , might pay for Sth Auckland people to keep an eye out , sadly the gangster vids they watch from the usa have popularized sporty type bikes so expect more of this kinda crime and even less police action .
I will certainly keep my eyes open , sorry for you fullas loss

the bike was involved in a major accident this afternoon.
it caught on fire the cops told me - outside the mt albert pak-n-save!
cop said he turned in front of a car - cat hit him and "poof" it went up -= in a big way.
well - at least it won't be sold to someone.
i feel better now - not sure why.
the rider was injured (maybe that's why?) and was collected at the roadside by a car that may have been following him.
that's all i have as of tonight.
will post any more developments...

How bad do you want to bust these guys?
It will require you obtaining two pieces of info.
If you can get the Auckland council to use their motorway CCTV system to identify which suburb the van traveled from and then follow them again on the departure, you can cross reference their journey with vodafone/telecom cellphone tower sector registrations.
On the cell records, you'll see them passing in and out of the cellular sectors.
All phones registering the same towers at the same times on their trips in and out are the phones belonging to your culprits.
Depends whether you can be farked nailing them really! I'd definitely do it if I was you.........
You'd think the cops would do this and simply put an end to it??????? For the sake of two inquiries.

the upside is it has been recovered,
insurance cannot refuse to pay out
down side the fuckers got away.
have to admit carmeras are the only thing we have these days that wll slow them down, nothing else does
So now you can plan a new ride, order those parts again, spend winter setting her up for summer.
In some ways this eppisode is now over and life should go on without being consumed with anger against the fuckers who did it.
Even though they deserve it, dont let them rent space in your brain with the anger.
Karma has already given the fucker a sore ass.

The motorway CCTV system is operated by Transit, not the Auckland Council.
The cameras are part of the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).
The video footage feeds into a control room and human operators monitor the network for congestion, accidents, queues, flooding etc. These operators use the information to post messages on the big electronic overhead gantry signs. The ATMS operators also work with police and emergency services - but only for live monitoring. As far as I know, the CCTV camera footage is not generally recorded or archived.
