Now am I a early bird riser....? No I am not. :thud:
The later rides are for the ones who like to speed... That aint me...

Dang it.... oh well maybe I will stay later at the party on Saturday night then...and maybe get a nice sleep in.... thats if my neighbours don't have another domestic.... and I actually get to have some sleep. :ar15: :ar15:

:finger: I'll be keen to see what an R1 can do when there aren't any straights

I haven't ridden 22 since my impromptu moto-x experience, so I'll probably take it easy.
I'd be too scared to call FF to collect my bike the second time I'd ridden the road.

Well that solves that dilemma.

To be honest, I'm not sure if my bike would be worth recovering after another crash :pinch:

But it's all academic really -I'm going to take it easy, so as not to leave Swanman's unwheelieable R1 behind :moon:

Yeah I'm good for a 10 oclock kick off Andrew.
Think some of the guys are going down to taupo that day... maybe FF to go down and back same day... not sure ?FF Was going to but have a night shift that night so 22 at 10 will do me.. long as its not wet cause the front tyre is becoming a dry weather only tyre rather quickly... Kerry I'm coming over next week

Sweet,be good to have you along,Jen can't make it so at least 1 ambo will be good.....
And if it's wet I'll be thinking twice too.....

Sorry chaps, I'm bailing. I didn't do what I was supposed to today(laziness) and will have to do it tomorrow instead. See you next time, have a good ride. Double shame as I wanted to have lesson number 2, on "the art of the wheelie" from the wheelie GOD, Death.

Now that I am not coming the chances of the weather being good have increased dramatically.

Be safe. Oh and remember to wait for Paperazzi to catch up now and then. :ride:

I'd like to apologize to FireFight for falling off on his road again.

Although I lowsided because all the air fell out of my rear tyre, rather than because I was dumb, so I don't feel so guilty.

Well so far I'm zero for two on SH22.

I did say to myself afterwards that I wouldn't ride 22 again, but on reflection my crashes are getting less severe, so I suspect that next time it'll be something minor like dropping the bike in the forecourt of BP Ngaruawahia.

Dave, could you PM me the days your trailer is available, so I know when next I can try riding 22? Cheers.

Ohhh right of course that makes sense. So if the air just happens to 'fall' out of my tire, presumably I could find it lying around somwhere??, yes all makes prefect sense to me?! So you just decided to fall off your bike just cos your air decides to fall off ay??
So apparently its not all that dumb to ride around with tyres that just happen to loose their air??? I wish we could all be as bright as you. What a dumbass.

I'm sorry Andrew, I probably shouldn't have assumed that people would be articulate enough to realise that was a euphemism for getting a puncture. Either that or I should have included some smilies so as not to extend peoples intellectual capacities.

If you want to discuss questionable behaviour we could start with someone riding a Ducati up Queen street at 150km/h because they were having a bad day.

Slow leak. Zapf was behind me and said I lost the back comming into a corner. To me the transition from on the bike to on the ground happened so fast I didn't have a clue what happened. The back felt normal until then, but had lost about 7 pounds.

I thought afterwards that I must have locked the front, because there were tyre marks on the road, but Zapf explained to me that was because he locked up in a courageous and greatly appreciated effort not to run me over.

The bike needs a new left mirror, footpeg, and bar end, and I'll take care of the plastic welding myself. The engine cover is scratched, but not holed, and there is a bit of a dent in the tank, but nothing major.

My gear is a bit the worse for wear. I've worn through the leather on a couple of points on my boot, shredded the knees in my pants, abraded some of the stitching on my jacket and gloves (wasn't thinking and put my hand down to slow me) the helmet doesn't have a scratch on it though.

I've got a bit of a sore spot on my foot where the bike fell on it, and took a bit of skin off my knees, so I guess the knee armour must have twisted to one side.

I'll be investigating today the option of making a claim on contents insurance to replace the gear. I'm going to be replacing it with leather, and hopefully some sidi race boots. I was pretty suprised how quickly the cordura wore through, so I think I'll put up with being hot in summer, cold in winter and wet in the rain for the extra protection offered by leather.

What probably concerns me more than anything else is how nonchalant I was about the whole affair. A woman coming the other way had stopped her car when she saw a riderless bike sliding down the road, and as soon as I got up I walked over to her and told her that I was ok, and that she could go. I'm sure she must have been thinking that I do this a lot on account of how laid back I was.

What I'm more worried about is what FF has in store for me after desecrating his patch with sundry Honda parts.

Nope yet another dumb thing to do. We're not talking about me here, we're talking about you. If I wanted to let people know how I journey up Queen St I'd start a thread and tell the whole world; but better still I'd invite you to start the thread since you know so much about it.

Perhaps you felt that you had something to prove by riding around with a deflated tyre. Beats me how me and my Ducati make you feel inferior but it is you we're talking about afterall.....

Gotta check those pressures, i had a slow leak on the zxr250 (small nail) and hell i felt it when riding so next time if something doesn't feel quite right that's the first thing to check (should have done it on the 400 BEFORE going on the rade last saturday no bins but sliding all over the place cause of low pressures)

Andrew, I agree with you, that knowingly riding with an under inflated tyre isn't a wise decision.

However, I think you've drawn conclusions based on an assumption that I was aware of the condition of the tyre.

I think it would be a fearless individual that would press on knowing that their tyre wasn't in a good state.

If I had have felt it slipping or received any other indication that it wasn't up to scratch, then I would have slowed down, and if I deemed it neccesary, stopped to inspect the bike.

However the transition from on the bike to on the road occured so quickly, that my first indication of something being not quite right was when I realised I was sliding along the road.

As for the mention of Queen street, the point I was attempting to illustrate is that before criticising the behavior of others, that you should consider your own behaviour.

Where I have to disagree with you is that it is about both of us. I feel that if you are prepared to offer criticism of others then you need to be prepared to accept criticism of your own behaviour.

As for feeling inferior, I don't feel inferior to you and your Ducati, or any other bike/rider combination. There's always going to be someone faster than me and always someone slower than me, and there is something I can learn from all of them, including yourself.

I haven't ridden with you before, and I have only met you the once, so I'm not in a position to comment on your riding skill, nor your bike.

I felt that the telling of your story to MikeL and myself over lunch at Galbraiths did put it in the public domain, and that it is relevant to your ability to offering criticism of other's behaviour.

My reply to your original post was somewhat more sardonic that was necessasary to prove my point, but needs to be taken in the light of the hour it was written, the busy day I'd had, and what I felt was an overly agressive tone to your post.

However, I'm not interested in harboring a grudge against another KB'er, and I would prefer you didn't harbour one against me.

May I suggest we call it quits here, and you could tell me about your Ducati over a beer at the next Galbraith's lunch?

Would that be cool with you?

Mr Skid
13th December 2004, 17:18
Crashe:
I'm not sure if she saw the incident or not. I remember that when I stopped sliding that there was a car there. I knew I was ok, so that's why the next thing I did was let her know that I was ok, as that I didn't need help (I think I thanked her for stopping but I can't remember).

From her perspective it must have been a suprise for someone to go for a slide and then have a calm conversation.

LB:
Yeah, I've got the bits to get it going again (peg and mirror). I need to sort out some new gear before I do anything else though. But I'd be very keen for someone with experience to give me some advice.

Devil:
Would you believe that I have even uglier shirts still in my wardrobe than what you've seen?

Hey Pap, while you're out shopping for leathers (the only way to crash!), pick up a little tyre guage too. Should only cost $20 or $30 for a basic one but it would help you keep a regular eye on the tyres. Having it on the bike means its convenient enough to do a quick check before you set off in the morning or to check at a fuel stop etc. if you've got any doubts whatsoever.
The longer you ride (and the more you push the bike), the more you will start to learn what under inflated tyres feel like before they become a catastrophic problem - a very important skill to have :) Once you're used to tyres always at the right pressure on your bike, you'll be able to spot problems much faster.

Once you're used to tyres always at the right pressure on your bike, you'll be able to spot problems much faster.Indeed.
Then even a couple of PSI either way, and you'll feel it (or kPa, or whatever rocks your world  ). In fact, once you've got a tyre-pressure gauge, and tyres that keep their air in :Pokey: , you'll be able to play around with finding the pressures that work best for you, by starting with the recommended pressures and working up or down (almost always the latter) a couple of PSI until you find the 'sweet spot', tyre pressure wise. :)
