This (http://www.deus.com.au/) is pretty kewl - I especially like their really hokey opening screen, with the lame arse cheap animation.
But amongst all the hokey stuff, there are a few gems of bikes.

So it's sort of like a British version of an American custom shop.

I like the bikes, but I'll bet they'll be a bit pricey, and probably not the flashest for commuting. Shame I'm too old for posing.

i was there (their sydney shop) on saturday.
it's owned by dare jennings (used to own mambo clothes) and rod hunwick (aus dealer magnate who built the hunwick harrop bike).
it's the best bike shop i've been to - and i've travelled a lot. they also specialise in the SR500, so i'm biased.
they do great clothes too - their own branded tshirts, jackets etc.
they have vanson, and schott, puma boots etc.
very different from a "normal" bike shop, and all the staff are enthusiasts.
i've been going there since it opened about 3 years ago, i thought it would never catch on, but the clothes, and adjoining cafe keep the place busy. it was rammed last saturday.
it's a great place, and worth the taxi ride from the city centre. it's in camperdown, about 10 mins in a taxi from the QVB.
take a look at the store on www.deus.com.au - there's a lot more in the shop though.
i saw the prototype of their new w650 rigid bobber too - looks sweet.
i applaud them, trying to be different and fresh in a stale marketplace.

Why am I not surprised!
I actually thought of you at lunchtime, Ken, when I saw the magazine that had the Deus ex Machina article in it.
I'm not a great fan of all the bikes pictured on their web site, but the SRX400(?) based bikes have an elegant simplicity about them.

yep - the 500 was sitting beside my buell when it was stolen yesterday, if they had taken that i would be devastated. it's getting a bit more attention now the buell is gone too, time to sort the tachometer and shorten the handlebars like i've been planning.
i rode the 500 on sunday - it's such a basic, pure thing.
love the light weight, great suspension - but the dirt YZ250 brakes are pretty average.
anyone know where i can get a better, bigger floating disc for a '94 yz250 hub?
i'll get a bigger master cylinder too.
also want to upgrade the rear caliper - the YZ one is pretty piddly, and as the bike has a little more of a rearward weight bias, i use the rear brake a lot.
also finally ditch that supermoto front guard and mount a matching harley sporty metal guard (after getting brackets fabbed)
here's some pics of the 500...(they are old - as it has ohlins now) but she's still that shiny!

That's Black Bart Markel on his KR750,a flattrack legend....if the shop owners picked that for their home page screen they are ok in my book. And all the bikes are something I would like to own.

MORE POSTS LIKE THIS ONE PLEASE!!! Bling for you mate.

I like motorcycles that are well thought out and real. No chrome fucking choppers, but simple. If it don't make it go faster, then it get ditched (excuse the americanism inherent in that sentence, but it has a point).

More hard core bike porn like this, Vifferman.

Yeah! I was in Sydney a couple of weeks ago and paid them a visit. The boss even took me into the workshop to show me around. I took quite a few pics so once I get around to it, I'll resize them and throw them up on here.

their bikes are cool - but nothing you can't do here in nz - for less money and registration hassle...
if you want to start i can sell you a nice sr500 and help you buy the bits you need to build it into whatever you like.
PM me.

nice bike.

I'm disappointed to see that they're still wrapping the exhaust headers.

It might look cool, but it really fucks up engines and exhaust systems.

Thats a nice looking work in progress.

If your budget stretches to it there is a guy parting out a GL1000k1 on tardme. The front ends were a popular upgrade "in the day" because the fork stanchions were bigger and the brakes were better. If your budget stretches that far it might be a worthwhile upgrade. It needs a *complete* rebuild though.

My experience is that the front brakes on these old girls are their least desirable features.......

Wrapping the exhaust headers is a technique that used in race cars to help reduce the temperature under the bonnet.

The problem with insulating the headers is that the engine head, exhaust valves, and muffler are forced to run at higher temperatures. Which reduces their operational life.

It can also cause the headers to rust out quicker (if they're not stainless or titanium, natch) because it can trap moisture - hot moisture. This isn't a problem in normal use where they get hot enough to thoroughly dry the wrap, but if you were doing a short trip on a cold wet day they could conceivably suffer. I'd imagine the extra heat on chromed steel headers wouldn't be great for encouraging the chrome to stay put either.

The purpose of the wrap is to keep heat in the exhaust gases, thereby maintaining high velocity. As the gases cool, they slow down.

Lowering of underhood temperatures is a red herring amigo.

Reckon? I've only been in once but I felt like the only motorcyclist there so it didn't do it for me.

I'm more of a country pub sort of person tho.

Oh, and the rat arsed kiwi is right, the header wrap is to promote better exhaust flow.

Guess your timing was off. Last time I was there, it was a Saturday, early afternoon, and there were 20-ish bikes parked out front and the majority of the customers were decked out in bike gear.

Most peeps were sitting around doing cafe stuff (talking BS mostly I figure) with the rest wandering about checking ot the cafe racer machines on display and in the workshop.

It sure ain't a country pub but... :)
