View Full Version : A Monster Roadshow?

We need to go to AKL end June (30th to 4th July to be exact).
Sully one and I are flying up and back and have accomodation for that week but Sully60 is going to ride up and will need a comfy square of carpet to rest on at night and somewhere to keep MY bike safe.
The only people we know are relocating since we told them we were coming so won't be round...SO we are putting the call out to the KB community.
Something in Manurewa would be really really ideal!
We are also hoping to stay up there for the Saturday night as we would love to take Sully one to Rainbows End....is that far from Manurewa?
Anyway - conscious that shit happens so being the practical girl that I am I'm keen to ensure we have a couple of options up our sleaves in case closer to the time helpers need to withdraw their offer.
I really need Sully60 to come with us as his support for both of us during this week will be hugely needed and I would hate to have something go wrong at the last minute and so he'd have to stay behind.....

Manurewa is within walking distance of Rainbow's End but I wouldn't advise you to walk because it is SOUTH AUCKLAND.:shit:

No worries chicky the sentiment is much appreciated
Pity we don't know anyone in Akland to call on - asking for help from strangers isn't something I'm terribly comfortable or experienced in BUT needs must and this visit is too important to not ask for help to make sure we can all be there together.

I know.I've only lived in Welly for a few months and I quickly found out what are the more "interesting" areas to be wary of.I lived in Jafaville years ago when it was quite safe at night but now you wouldn't catch me walking around there with scumdog at my side.(even if he was dressed!)
PS Good luck with your mission.

I know what you mean...I was in a similar (although less important) situation when I crashed at the Kendogs for last year's KB Birthday Bash.
But they were awesome, so rest assured it will be alright...KBers are like family, so it's not really asking for help to strangers.
hell, if your man didn't mind thr North Shore, 007XY and I would have him in a heartbeat. He could sleep in the office, we'd make him comfortable. But I realise that it's too far from where you and little Sullyone will be.
Anyway, the offer is there if you guys want it...

Have you found a home for Silly60 yet?
We live about an hour and a half from Manukau, sometimes an hour, sometimes 2 hours depending on the time of day. He has a nice big Queen bed here, complete with ample garage parking for your baby :blip:
Very welcome to stay here for as long as needed! We have some nice roads up here he could practise on during his commute to see you guys! :innocent:
May have to do a BBQ or something for you before you head back south.

Yeah given the to and fro nature of the week that will be I'd say he'd be keener to be closer but very big appreciate hug for the offer Mom!
A BBQ would be cool, but except for Sully, Me and the little one will be without transportation.
We are hoping to be able to get lodgings for the three of us also for Sat night so that we can take Sully One to Rainbows end for some FUN time (as I have been told that the week will be pretty tough on him and NOT FUN)
...would be awesome to meet some of the AKL crew too if they are free AND interested/curious enough to bother with us

Well doh! I have a car! I can drive it in an ok fashion, I will come pick you up, and deliver you back to where you need to be. Mind you we live a fair distance from the bottom of Auckland, maybe we will come and annoy you down there instead.
Try not to worry too much about what is going to happen mate. Trust me on this kids are amazing! They take things in their stride. I have no doubt it will be stressful, but picking it will be worse for you than him.

So that we aren't 'stranded' we've decided we'll Sully will take the car up. That way me and the boy can travel relatively lightly and we can load all sorts of crap into the thing that we might need.
The plan so far is that we'd like to do stuff at the end of the day that takes me and the little one off campus and as we were hoping to have a holiday at some point but now need to take time off for this we'll hit two birds with one stone and make the most of our time up there.
Thinking stuff like:
Waiwera hot springs...they have slides aye?
Kelly Tarltons
Rainbows end on the Saturday - so long as we can arrange the flights out for me and lil one to not leave until Sunday morning.
AND whatever else is good to do in AKL on a weekday night that's kiddie friendly?
Other ideas anyone?
Oh and keen to catch-up and meet some of you in the flesh so to speak...if anyone is interested.
(AND thanks for all the PM's and messages of support. Quite overwhelming actually to get this from *almost* complete strangers. THANKS again for the offers too. We think we have a place for Sully to crash, just waiting for confirmation.)

Another update.:sunny:
Seems Sully60 WILL be able to stay on site with us so we don't need to impose on anyone for the week, Sully one will have both of us there the whole time and Sully60 won't have to travel to and fro each day.
This also means we will be able to be even more flexible around how we entertain ouselves in the evenings.
Plan is to visit Kelly tarltons one night and Rainbows end and Waiwera hotpools on the Saturday - we gonna take a cruizy drive back to Welly on the Sunday.
Keen to hear about any good things to do in the late afternoon, early evening during the week that are 4 year old boy friendly

We are going to do Kelly Tarltons, Rainbows end and Waiwera Hotpools...OH AND Mom and Maha :buggerd: :2thumbsup
Any other ideas for us to while away the evenings? Seems we have from about 3-4pm onwards free each night during the week.
Make sure you hit the Mount Eden lookout. I discovered it last week.
It's bee-yooooooou-tiful.
Also a make-out point by the looks of things.

Stuff to do?
Waiwera's great, you'll love it. Kelly Tarlton's is a boring, ridiculously-overpriced tourist trap. I'm afraid I can't recommend going there.
Take a round trip from downtown on one of the ferries around the harbour. Kids love being on boats, and if it's a clear day you get great views in the evening as the sun sets over the Waitaks and the city lights turn on.
And I've missed this thread up until now, but naturally if other arrangements fall through Sully60's most welcome to the spare bedroom at chez Grahameeboy-and-Random.
I must warn you, though, that getting from Devonport to Manurewa by car (shudder) would be a mind-numbingly horrible pain in the arse at any time other than about 3am. My car fights its way out of Devonport once a fortnight.

Merton Street in UHutt - mmmm fun times :devil2:
I lived there for a few years, It was awesome.
No worries tho, only one major a week. the big (scary) dog only persuaded 3 or so undesirables (that we know of) that the other side of the fence was better. One murder, one "smash into occupied house to burn it down with the occupants inside" incident and one massive street brawl between lots of "locals".
Wasn't THAT bad, at least I had a garage!
Good luck with the roadshow aye :)

Mike 748 and I are located out West. There is always a square of carpet here for you, might even manage a comfy couch:msn-wink:. And a space in the garage next to the Duc. Would love to meet you in person!
I'd suggest Stardome observatory in One Tree Hill. Although I've never been there myself, it sounds pretty special. Check out www.stardome.org.nz
Snowplanet? Cart track next door to that also. North of Auckland, on the way to Orewa.
Will keep you in mind.

Raibows end was great fun - if a little wet and cold and windy.
I loved the Fear Fall...can't believe they still show the same tired old video in the dome cinema (since when I went there last as a spritely 13 year old)...pity the motion master wasn't operational or the carts - could've had some fun with those in the wet.
Sully one loved the Pirate Ship :puke: it twice and was keen to stay on it but two goes was more than dad would do and as mum joined after the first go and not up to another that was it...time to move onto another ride.
We got super cold and rather wet but due to the inclement weather we didn't have to wait in any queues and were able to ride many of the rides as many times in a row as our stomachs could handle.
We arrived home with dessert and booze in hand to the glorious smell of roasting pork.....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaa NOICE!
Right back to it....

Part one of three...
Mummy and I started out by going to the airport. We had to wait a bit because the pilots who fly the planes were a bit scared of the all the wind and rain so couldn’t get out of Dunedin and we had to wait for another plane to come and get us. Lucky I had my colouring in books and crayons to keep me busy because I could have gotten in trouble if I decided to run away from mum for some amusement :chase:
We finally got on the big plane and as we were screaming down the run way I told everyone on board in my best ‘outside voice’ that we were going “really really fast!!!” and then we got up above the clouds and I told everyone how we were up “really really high!!!” and then when we were landing I told the pilot and everyone else (again in my best outside voice) that we had to “sloooooow down” Then when we got off we were in Auckland.
At the airport we met the other family we were going to be staying at Homai with and their Daddy, little girl and baby boy but I liked their mum the best
When we got to Homai we sat down and had some lunch and that's when Daddy arrived in the car. We went and saw some ladies who talked to mum and dad while I found all the trampolines, slides and swings and found out there were three playgrounds! :sunny:
When we were finished mum and dad took me for a drive in the car to see what was around. I saw three KFC's, two McDonalds and just around the corner there was a Domino's – which I have never tried but I am rather partial to their logo and branding! We didn't go too far away but we saw lots of cars and lots of people and lots of big buildings.
On Wednesday we had a free afternoon so we all went to Kelly Tarltons, I loved the Stingrays and saw Dory and Nemo too! Then after dad had made himself beautiful we headed off for a visit with Riff Raff (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=1532), White Trash (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=843) and little baby Kieran. Dad was using an old map which meant we got to go on a little tiki tour of Papakura before we got there  But when we did we had a good feed and I got a little drink of Daddy's beer before I got to play with some of White Trash's toys which are all girl toys
Little baby Keiran was crying when mummy had a wee cuddle but soon calmed down, Riff Raff was happy about this but she wasn't so happy that dad had his crack hanging out and shouted SAY NO TO CRACK! She's funny!
After a cool day at Homai on Thursday when Mrs White played the piano and we got to do some singing and dancing we headed off to the North Shore to have dinner with 007XX (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=11620) and 007XY (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=12073). Daddy took a bit long to get ready and when we got on to the big motorway the cars were going very slow. It took a long time but we went over the big bridge that went over the ocean and then past the big courts where lots of girls were playing netball. (dad was a bit lost again!)

Part two of three...
After collecting some yummy dessert we arrived at the 007 headquarters and saw their TV, Finding Nemo has never been quite so easy before, wow! :jerry:
So after a lovely dinner and a bath I had a sleep in 007's sons’ bed while all the adults laughed and told stories. Mum and Dad got me up and we drove back to Homai across the big bridge again.
On Friday I went to the school class again with Mrs White and had a great time while Mum and Dad went and talked with some of the other teachers. We then had morning tea with yummy cream cakes but I had to be quiet because a man called Mr Keys was talking and Mummy and Daddy and all of the adults wanted to hear what he was saying. Nothing he was saying made any sense to me I don’t know what all the fuss was about. In fact I thought all the quiet adults would enjoy what I had to say much much more!!!
WE were now finished at Homai and set off back over the big bridge again, this time to go and see Mom (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=7909) and Maha (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=4192) and drop our stuff off there and go to the Waiwera hot pools where the big water slides are.
The pools are outside and the wind was very cold but when I got in the water it was warm so I really liked splashing around and getting Mummy and Daddy and all the other kids wet. Then Mummy and Daddy took me on the slides, I had a couple of goes but then I went down the slide called Bob’s mistake and as mum and I came shooting off the end I thought oh oh and got water up my nose when we landed so a I didn’t like the slides after that. We went back to the movie pool and stayed in there because it was nice and warm.
After the pool we went back to the Maha’s place to stay the night and get ready for our Rainbows End adventure the next day.
When we got up on Saturday there was lots of rain and it was very cold and windy but we could see two big rainbows. Mum and Dad weren’t sure about going but decided that we had come along way to not go so we got ourselves in the car and made the track back to Manukau. The rain was sooo heavy and there were heaps of SOAPs going the other way ready to invade the upper north. (SOAPS = Stressed out Auckland Pricks apparently)

Part three of three....
When we got to Rainbows end it was very cold and there was lots of rain. The lady told us that they might close but we had a few hours before they made that decision so we decided to just get in there and go for it.
We went on the Log Flume first and got quite wet on the big dipper at the end – I laughed but mum complained of having a ‘cold wet crutch?” then we went to the roller coaster – I clearly need to start eating Taro though cos I was too little to go on so mum had two turns and then so did dad. They were funny to watch cos the rain was really hard and they had to close their eyes hard at times and came off really wet…it was cool to watch them go upside down really really fast. Then we went to Cadbury land and I went on the dragon roller coaster and the space shuttles and the horsey carousel. Then dad showed me some crazy driving in the dogem cars and mum also tried to take us out…sheesh crazy woman! I loved the Pirate Ship and made dad do it twice…mum felt bad so got on for the second go but neither of them would go a third – talk about soft!!! We went into the big dome and watched a funny video that made mum feel really sick…I didn’t really notice it too much and spent most of the time chatting up some girls and got a really dirty look from their mummy when I yelled out ‘Oh Jesus!’ after a big almost crashing scene played. By now we had had a great day and I was getting a bit tired and too cold so we jumped back in the car and headed back to the Maha’s place.
When we got back the house was lovely and toasty warm and Mom was cooking a divine pork roast – mmmmmmmm the smell was just heaven. After a nice bath I sat down and ate my veges and pork roast up like a good boy and after doing some drawing and watching Mom build Manuel the ice man. Then mum and dad popped me into bed so they could have some ‘adult time’ – I had a BIG sleep because I was very tired after the days fun and excitement.
On Sunday I was very excited cos it was time to head home and I would get to play with all my toys and see my cats and fish again. But lots of snow had blocked the roads and we had to go the long way round. This worked out good though because Pussy (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=2237) and Gassit Girl (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=12035) invited us in for a coffee and then demanded that we stay for another lovely roast dinner – gee we should go visiting more often me thinks! Pussy took me and daddy down to see the planes at the airport and I even got to stand on the wings and sit in the cockpit…aeroplanes are now my favourite and I have kept daddy very busy drawing them since. I had a lovely bath there too and after dinner and some chatting we hit the road again. I fell fast asleep and with no traffic on the roads we made good time arriving home at 12:40am  Mum and dad were knackered – not sure why I feel fine
Today it is nice to be home and I have built an awesome train track and bridge and am still in my PJ’s as it is freeeezing here!
Anyway thanks to everyone who invited us into their homes it was awesome and we have all really enjoyed our first ever family holiday together.

Hiya Sully One. It was really cool having you and your parents stay at our place on the weekend, we really enjoyed it. I cant be entirely certain about this, but I am pretty sure that I heard Blackie heave a huge sigh of relief as your Mommy drove out the driveway. Guess she has forgotten how much fun it is to play chasey with 4 year old boys, mind you she is getting a bit old like me so I will forgive her memory.
I reckon the funniest thing you said the whole time you were up here was when you came in the lounge and said..."guess what I touched Mummy?" although the retelling of the JESUS storey a couple of times came a close second to be fair!
Your parents must be very proud of you for being such a good boy while you were at our place! Come again anytime!
