View Full Version : Wobbly rim?

My GSXR400r seems to have a slight shimmy in it at low speed. I am suspecting a slight bend in the front rim. Who, in ChCh, should I go to, to have the rim checked for true, and repaired if nessessary? Any other suggestions?

Does the shimmy go away at high speed or get worse?

To be honest-I havent ridden the bike much-but didnt notice a wobble at 100kms.

If the rim was bent it would only get worse with speed.
I would suggest something else but to be specific would have everyone on here just saying "nah you're wrong it must be..."
You get the point.
So let the theorising [sp]begin....

Thats fine-I will take the ideas on board. Perhaps a careful balance when the new rubber goes on will fix things.....

A friend had a great saying. Listen to what people say but don't listen to what they say.
So you have a slight 'shimmy'. But then propose a possible reason that people will fixate on.
If you must fixate, then eliminate it by propping the bike up on a stand & spinning it, check if it has much run out. Can tape something real close to the wheel to see how much it moves. 2 or 3mm you won't notice.
If that isn't it the usual suspects are wheel alignment, steering head bearings or a raft of other items. Or like Frosty check the tyres are inflated properly with a decent gauge.

is it in both sides or just one side of the wheel
i had a slight bend in one side on the wheel , itll be fine
you should notice it , as the wheel will be balanced .
