View Full Version : Gimp suits: hot or not?
Livvy

In another thread the question was raised:
Gimp suits - full, one piece leather riding gear. Sometimes scary to non bikers, but what do other bikers think of them in an aesthetic way?
Personally, I think gimp suits only look good when you're on a bike, and only on one that can go fast... Whilst a gimp suit on a scooter is probably a great idea, it just looks wrong to me.
So what's your opinion?

What the heck's a gimp suit for a biker?
Livvy

Lol. Sorry. Slang. Full one piece biking leathers.

Oh, that.
In my opinion they look extremely goddamn cool until the rider walks about 12 feet away from his bike, then they suddenly become ridiculous.

Nope I think that just like speedo's or a bikini only posers wear them when they are not at the track or beach.

Gimp suit ?? never heard it called that before, it all depends if you've got a fat guts or not - not good look if your round in the middle.

What's a gimp suit ??
Strictly speaking a Gimp suit is one of them black rubber thingumybobs as worn by 'The Gimp' in Pulp Fiction. However I suspect one of the Jeans and leather jacket brigade might be having a go at us fellas that wear full leathers on the bike......i.e. I think they may be referring to one piece leathers in this case...

When I voted I assumed you were talking about zip across the mouth and leash round the neck type gimp suit.
Unless your on a late model sports bike you look like a poser. Also your sliders need to have seen some action.

Absolutely hot on girls.
Women's cut leathers accentuate the female form in a way that is most pleasing to the eye. And it also lets you know that they are a sport biker - which is sexy in itself.

They are a lil harder to get in and out of... But what if you are a racer and it's the only thing you've got for the road
I only have a one piece, although it has seen the tarmac several times as I raced last season and the knee sliders definitely have been used... Does that make me a racer wannabe tryhard? :bleh:

To me, leathers=safety=smart=attractive. One piece or 2-piece zip together. Says to me that the body inside has a practical attitude to safety and riding. When you go riding, don't you spend most of your time on the bike anyway?

I'm with the "it's all in the stuffing" brigade. Some bods are going to look great whatever they are in, some are going to look like a bunch of spare tyres balanced on two sticks of spaghetti.
Oooh, a yummy shapely male body in a tight leather suit... mmmmm!! But yeah, would still look like a poser if he got out of a car in it. There must be a bike in sight to give him a good excuse to wear it.
Edit: Oh yeah if he's got the bod he also has to know how to move it

Whoops... Changed pic as the other one was already in avatar :stupid:
Pic one, in the pits... It cracks me up in movies when the chick gets off a bike, removes her helmet and her hair is perfect... You know she hasn't been on the bike for long :spanking: Or if any chicks actually are able to do that.. PM me your secret!
Pic two... Back on the bike after binning it. You have to wear a Fluro vest for your first few race meets or if you're under 17
If you want some one dancing in gear... You can't beat Mordeth13!! Most of his vids are awesome :jerry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q93v2PDQZm4

Very nice pics Meekey....
But I have to agree with earlier posts...its very much the togs, togs, togs, undies problem. On a bike they are great but unless you are wearing them at track day it can be safely assumed you will be walking more than 12 feet from your bike when you then pass though the gimp tranformation area and then begin wearing your superhero costume. which is fine if your a superhero I suppose. :chase:

I think they only look good if they are the right size for the wearer and if they are either on a long ride or on the track. Imagine seeing a guy walking around the mall in one!! Would turn a few heads!!

Whenever I end up at the mall wearin my one piece, I make sure to keep my helmet on. If I'm gonna be looked at like a weirdo, I want it to be on my terms and as though I want it.

Gimp suits are great while you're riding and a complete pain in the arse the rest of the time, and yes they make you look like a tosser. But there's nothing I'd rather crash in.

I'd rather not crash, atire regardless.
Have to say I've been lucky with crashing in the wrong get up. Jeans and sneakers, come away with no worse scrapes than similar crashes in a one piece. Different story would be crashing at race pace in jeans though, I'd come away with out skin methinks.
Livvy
16th April 2008, 17:46
We'd all prefer not to crash, atire regardless, but as you say, at around town speeds, a crash of your own making (i.e., not a crash involving a car, but where you slip on a wet patch, etc) would probably be about the same in jeans or in leathers, but I reckon it'd depend on the incident...
But I'd still prefer, town speeds or not, to crash in proper gear, be it one piece or two or even more.
Henk
16th April 2008, 21:33
Definitely go along with the rather not crash sentiments. I've had my gimp suit about a year, worn it half a dozen times. Also have leather and cordura jackets and pants. Usual riding atire is a combination of those with jeans thrown in. Have crashed in all sorts, jeans suck for hitting the tarmac, have lost skin and collected some of those neat little burns where the rivets get insanely hot from being ground off on the ashphalt.
