Kayaks

I'll be camping by the Kai Iwi lakes next weekend. Do any Auckland (or more northerly) KBers:

(a) know of a good kayak hire place somewhere in Auckland, Dargaville or in between that won't charge me the earth; or

(b) happen to have a dungy old kayak at the back of their gargre that they could be bribed to lend out?

As it happens, I might be away laughing, because the owner of the house next to where I'm camping (which I rented for *last* year's lake expedition) has a pair of kayaks in the gargre by the house. If they're not being used next weekend, I might be able to talk her into letting me at them, but I do need a backup.

Any ideas, chaps?

I have an Ocean Kayak Scrambler.
It's a sit on design I use for accessing out of the way fishing spots.
It's about 12foot,real stable,easy to row,ect ect.
You can borrow that if you want.
Gott'a come out to Waiuku to pick it up but.

Fark me! Favourite holiday I ever went on with the folks was when we hired a camper van and stayed at the Kai Iwi lakes for a week. Farking beautiful place, and just ideal for Kayaks. We bought a short fat rapids skiff from our next door neighbours for $20 and my brother and I shared it. We had an absolute ball. Your oldest will love it. We repopulated the Kaipatiki estuary with brown trout on that trip too. We caught about 400 fry and let them go into a tributary.

On a different note, I love f__king being drunk.

You should try it.

Yes, it's very nice. We've been up there during summer for the last three years, now. Seems to be turning into our Regular Family Holiday place, which I'm not unhappy about.
