Location of incident: Ngauranga Gorge

Incident type: State Highway - Road closure

Police are advising that there will be a total road closure of all North bound lanes through the Ngauranga Gorge from 6pm Saturday - for approximately 45 mins.
This closure will take place to effect the recovery of a broken down fuel tanker which has been stranded in the centre North bound lane since approx 2pm.
Diversions for North bound traffic will be in place; either through Ngaio Gorge Road or across the Haywards Hill (State Highway 58) in the Hutt Valley.
Police and Transit are hoping to fully re-open the road prior to 7pm.


A great night for it too. Numerous nose to tail accidents around Wellington today. Winter is coming folks!.

Went over to Carterton last night, 2 accidents where they are doing the road work stuff on the Hutt road, pissing down. Then on the way home at about 10pm the Featherston side of the Rimatakas was thick with fog, misty rain, ZERO visability, slowest trip I've ever made up the hill, that's for sure, couldn't see SHIT!!!! Scary actually, you think you know the road pretty well until you do it in thick fog!:no:
