OUCH! Is right! How much punishment can the undercarriage and airframe take? Would a landing like that mean a thorough checkover?
I've been in a 747 that landed rather hard once, and someone said that some pilots try to float in real gentle and others like to know when they're on the ground...

Blardy Swissair.
Those Toblerone munchers might be able to sail a boat, but clearly can't fly a plane...thank goodness for bendy wings.:pinch:

Trade secret...!

Yup, flew them for Ansett NZ and then Crossair/Swissair (them who feature on this video). Have around 6000 hours on the type. Probably have flown that aircraft.

Well I reckon that thing should have been looked at by engineers as it looks like there were some serious side loads on the undercarriage indicated by the horrendous wing rock towards the end. However, knowing this mob, I doubt it happened. Watching the spoiler positions and movement, it is clear that there were some very inappropriate control inputs happening.
Smooth (greaser) landings impress your passengers but they cost you runway (you float down it a bit before touchdown) and if the runway is short, Like LCY in this video, then a positve touchdown early on is the more correct technique. But not that many and that hard. I am sure they all were sh!tting bricks over that one... We all do less than perfect landings from time to time, but the trick is to recognizing a bad approach, that leads into the bad landing and doing something about it (like go around and have another go). It is clear that the airspeed was alowed to decay too early on in the approach and they just lost control of it in crosswind conditions. The 146 has a very benign crosswind handling characteristic and is actually very ideally suited to those conditions hence being the only airline jet to operate London City.

Any landing where you can re-use the aeroplane is a goody!

I like to be impressed... :yes:This was Brisbane airport, so plenty of room there. Your comment about "this mob" is a little disturbing...:shit:

I thought it was "Any landing you can walk away from, is a good landing...":innocent:

I was there 1999-2000 as a contract capt, they were an airline in trouble. They had grown too quickly and were in a bit of a shambles. They had two accidents back then, killing a whole bunch of people (we try not to do that really). There has been some restructuring and so on since (a name change), so perhaps things are better now. Perhaps.

...(we try not to do that really)...
Thanks, that's very reassuring...
Mind you, being at the pointy end of the aircraft does mean that you're the first to know about it and the first to feel it, generally. You don't often hear of a plane backing into a mountain...:pinch:
