View Full Version : A not-so lead sled?

I’ve had this 1KT TZR Chassis lying around for a while now and have pondering wether to do something with it or not.

I tried to give it away but it came back so it must be true love.

Now don't get me wrong the 'sled is still my first priority but with Number One wanting to race having another F4 bike will soon become necessary.

So I started the build process today with fitting a ZZR250 front end.
These probably less than ideal forks in their current state, certainly not as well spec'd as the 1KT forks.
Necessity is the mother of invention and a lack of suitable wheels means the whole ZZR front end will be used along with the rear wheel. The ZZR wheels aren’t the lightest rims around but they are the right size for 125GP tyres and will fit with minimal modification.

I’ll probably build another CB142 twin motor for it out of all the bits I have lying around but would be keen on a two stroke to keep weight down and add some variety to the stable.

Who knows what will become of this project and if I can get it further up the periodic table than the Leadsled, only time and regular updates will tell.

My! Isn't that a big gap in the middle where a motor should go.

Nice one Sully,

Sing out if you want a hand hammering stuff or generally getting in the way :)

Have you got an ETA on completion?

Nevermind all that.... Will it be faster or slower than my H?....

Hmmmm, detect a note of quivering concern in your post I do...:shifty:

Won't be faster than anything wif no mota guvnor!

Thinking out loud it should be better than the 'sled if I transplanted the engine, better power to weight and all that. Could end up a bit tall so we'll see how that works out.:soon:

That might be a little high up table if I use another twin. Would be nice though...

I was thinking more like Ironsled, not as heavy as lead but still heavy.:pinch:

IRONSLED is a mint name!
Is the TZR frame lighter than the ZXR?

Skunk

I'm going with the TF engine in the TZR along with the TZR forks etc...

It will be Skunk Controls when I get round to finishing it.

With an H100 engine.

So we'll be burning more oil at Monsters HQ when this one is up and running.

I have lots of things to do to get this one running (pretty obvious really when you see the pics) but it will at least have some potential.

Also aquired an MB50 engine and gearbox so that will sliced and gutted without prejudice to obtain the twelve gears of that much vaunted transmission, mwahahaha!

After seeing the latest development in the #6 saga I will be taking a measured approach to this one and taking my time. So maybe this might debut as a 2009 model, by then Number One will be asking for new factory parts for each meeting so I'd better get this one sorted by then.

The saga continues......

Yeah I reckon it is but maybe a bit of overkill on the sled theme, but they are heavy :pinch:

Is the TZR frame lighter than the ZXR?
Yes. by quite a bit. The ZXR has got to be one of the most over engineered 250's there ever was.

STAUNCH is where it's at Sista!

Here's a real crappy mockup (Satan, I miss Photoshop!) of your request.

That gets me thinking maybe I could ask KB for some other styling suggestions.

Maybe I could start a poll, whadayareckon?:blip:

Oh BTW.
Kendog brother, you tell that Str8Jacket bitch the word!

Oh my! that is a crappy mockup... But I still like the name. I feel you brother...:headbang:

Get Photoshop again before you appeal to the masses...you want to give clear examples of your preferences, otherwise they'll take your thread to the deep dark depths of hell...aka:nowhere worth being...

But I like where your mind's at so far :D

Craig just as a heads-up don't attach anything to the front engine mount (not that it looks like you'll need to, just they crack if you do). Also a considered approach to the inlet is worthwhile. Don't just open up the single inlet port or you may start breaking pistons. The std reedblock is pathetic. Std CDI ign will work ok if the optional weight is removed, but may tend to chew through plugs every few meetings if you crank the compression up a bit.

If it ends up with power anything like the last one you did it is going to be a weapon!
