Howdy folks
Off to Surfers/Sunshine Coast for a couple of weeks, in a couple of weeks and need a rental car (2 weeks without the bikes will be a test!).
Does anyone have any recommendations of rental car companies? Looking for a midsize car. Doesn't have to be flash but would prefer something not too ancient.
Any recommendations would be gratefully received!
Cheers

Go to 'Rent a Bomb' rentals. They are 5-10 mins cab to their yard from the airport (Brisbane). Good prices ($25 per day I think, incl insurance) and reasonable cars.

A mate borrowed a car from a rental car company lady. His mate hadn't turned up at the airport t5o collect him so he did a chat up job on the woman at the desk. Talk his way into anything that man... and out of anything for that matter. Can't beat that rate.

mazz, get the dom paper tomorrow & flick to the travel section.
Scan the small ads & you'll see an ad for a crowd (& I cant remember their name) who will meet you at the airport, sign all the papers across the bonnet of the car & you're off all for a cheap price! Reurning is dead simple in that you just park the car in the carpark lock the keys in it & walk away...dead easy. They had a local 04 number to ring that set it all up. Cars are reasonable. Done it twice & had a magna wagon both times. If I remember I'll check also & update this post.

I always ask for one with a dent in it that is too bad to rent out to anyone else @ 50% off.

I'd suggest you avoid the real "cheapie" end of the market. You'll end up with a 1988 mitsubishi galant or similar. Trust me -reliable and super cheap just shouldn't be used in the same sentence
I gotta say dude if you are staying on the gold coast you'll be blown away by the public transport system.

Try a comparison web site that gives you an idea of prices, that's what I do:

I found what I think is a good deal...
http://www.starrentacar.com.au/
Nissan Tiida or Hyundai Elantra (4-5 months old), 15 days A$550, met at Brisy airport.
VERY friendly and helpful on the phone.
Unlike East Coast Car Rentals (who also go by the name of Auscar Rentals) - not impressed with them at all.
