Here's one from an inspector. I don't know if it's true or another legend but he reckons in his earlier days they were questioning a real broken arse twat. While the 'd' was asking questions the cop behind got a fish from the supermarket and when Mr Broken arse gave the wrong answer he got slapped with the fish. Now when he eventually appeared in court he claimed to the judge and jury that his confession was under duress as he was slapped around the head with a fish. The judge didn't believe his rendition of events as who would believe anyone who claimed to be slapped around the head by a fish??
Buy a fish for a slapping?? You've been reading too much 'Asterix"

I saw it on TV once.
I think it was that there fish-slapping dance.
Must be BS then. I just repeated the story. If I made it up I would have said the cop used a trawlerman's sock filled with yak faeces.

I'm not sying it never happens, its a shame in some cases that it doesn't happen a hell of a lot more. However R1AaronKDX has chosen to alledge he has been the victim of one of the biggest hoax police / urban legends of all time. If he wants to have any credibility he would have to come up with a much more convincing story than that one. I couldn't possibly recall how many times I've had that story put to me but its usually a mate of a mate or an uncle or brother etc, nobody is usually stupid enough to alledge it actually happened to them.
Funny thats what the coppers said to my lawyer, i think your kind all say that to get away with it. i did stretch the truth a little tho, i did do it and probly even deserved it but as far as i was aware its still against the law if u deserve it or not. ask sgt miller at chch plice station that was the cock suka that did it, i was only 16 at the time, and it was his son i smaked over, and i only did that coz he was a coppers son and thought he could do whatever he liked and im over it just not over the coppers. lets just say the prick left a lasting impresion.

Well I went out for an early morning hoon today and paid the price big-time.
I got pulled by the cops after being clocked at 163kph, whilst overtaking a truck, on the wrong side of the no passing lines.....result, instant 28 day license suspension, $150 fine for the overtake plus whatever kind of fine I get from the court for the speeding, local knowledge says I can expect over $1000!!!
So the moral of this story is........lets all go buy top of the range radar detectors...sigh
What really upset me is the fact that the suspension was on the spot, I couldn't even ride home, and I was in the arse end of no-where, I can live with getting punished for speeding but this seems bloody draconian by UK standards(thre fact that I didn't get the chance to even try to talk my way out of it didn't help either!)

28 day suspensions apply for boy racer act offences (burnouts etc), speed offences when a driver is detected at 50kph+ above the limit and drink driving offences when the driver gives a reading of twice the legal limit or more. So if your mate lost his licence for dangerous driving it would be because he was pingged at 50kph+ above the speed limit, not specifically because he was charged with dangerous driving (speed).

As a road user it is up to you to know the consequences of breaking traffic laws. If your livelihood requires that you hold a drivers licence then you are a bloody fool to put yourself in the position where you could lose it, (your licence).
Try taking some ownership for your own actions!
Spud, try reading properly, if you read my earlier posts you'll see that I have always taken ownership of my actions, neither have I blamed anyone but me for my situation, the only issue I have/had is the heavy handedness of the punishment....jeeze............does anyone here actually bother to read others posts before responding or do y'all just fire from the hip?

Now see thats the problem you are having, the speed limit in NZ is 100Kph, not 100Mph.Yeah well I did think of trying that excuse.......
]In order to experience harsh deceleration one or more vehicles would first have to be travelling at reasonably high velocity, therefore, in a discussion about road safety, crashes and injuries, you can't look at speed and harsh deceleration as unconnected issues.I didn't say they were not connected, As for experiencing harsh decelleration, try dropping your head (in a helmet) from a height of 3 feet, your head will reach a speed of approx 38mph. You will decellerate from this 'terminal' speed to zero in approx .01 of a second when your head hits the floor, you have just experienced 'harsh decelleration'. Assuming your wearing a helmet that meets or exceeds UK regs, your head will be in excellent shape, however from a height of 4ft it's a different story...........
The above is the standard impact test for bike helmets in the UK and is also the basis for many other countries testing
A miscalculation such as overestimating the safe speed at which a corner could be negotiated. This could be at 30kph or 230kph, if the speed was too great for the conditions then I'm afraid speed was a factor if not an absolute cause.Yes, it's a factor but as you say, not an absolute cause..........but then speed is a factor in any accident, no speed means no accident as lack of speed means lack of forward momentum, if your not moving then you can't crash.................
You just contradicted yourself! Speed is directly linked to trauma and death experienced as a result of traffic crashes. By the way I believe there is research to suggest that higher speeds increase the likelyhood of crashing, if I find it I'll post it.Yeah, I know I did, I'm practising to be a woman!
And thats a common arguement used by people who are looking for any reason to justify travelling at whatever speed they feel like.Well I could turn this around really couldn't I?
I have also NEVER tried to justify the speed I was travelling at!
And when they do have a crash it is usually a fucken horror smash. Why? Something to do with speed perhaps? The fact that the autobahns do not have oncoming traffic crossing over the centre line has a lot to do with lower crash rates. And how many accidents do we have on kiwi motorways per km travelled? If your going to compare, compare like with like!
Overtaking on double yellows at 160kph in full view of a police officer. Its hard to get much more stupid than that! So what "driver education" programme are you signing up for in order to ensure the rest of the law abiding motoring public of NZ that you will not be so stupid in the future?A new pair of glasses and a bloody good detector.............

Really? And when did 'society' decide this? I think you'll find the law makers decided this, not society............

PeteThePom

I dont deny what your saying, its a sad fact. But both vifferman and Mike L raised some valid points. Its the attitude that is proberly the biggest problem.
I dont see the speed is the issue, its the person behind the wheel. Im sorry but I dont see targeting the person who is doing 100-115kmh is going to fix the problem. You have to target the attitude and develop BETTER driving skills. Instead of trying to lower the the average speed. Why dont we attempt to lift the quality of driving. I imagine that would result in a far better driving record for the country.
Thats exactly what I mean............at last someone who can actually look at the bigger picture.............

Mate out of curiosity, since you were going at hyper speed did you think about not stopping.Seems like the more people i meet on bikes the more people i know who are more than happy to try a runner.Wouldnt want to get caught after trying though.
I was out to enjoy a 'hoon' on my bike, it's not my policy to really piss off Mr Plod, besides which to have done a runner would have involved an increase in speed which was not really an option on that stretch of road(contrary to popular belief, I don't have a death wish!)

It's good to hear that they are actually being tested. I used to work at an establishment where they held indian functions. About half a dozen taxi drivers used to stumble out of there hardly able to walk. There would be breath testing stops at the top of the road... we got informed that they just wave the taxi's through....

German autobahns and NZ highways simply can't be compared! How many kilometres of roadway do we have in NZ that are even remotely similar to the Kraut roads? I don't know but I'd hazard a guess at less the 80 ks. There are all the crash stats you could want up on the LTSA site, I've posted them before, can't be bothered again. Hey Spud,
A while ago the media got on the police chase bandwagon, there was a number of occurances where either police or the offender had crashed.
There was some big enquiry from memory and the outcome was police werent going to pursue when speeds were dangerous, i cant remember all the details.
I was wondering if anything official within the force had been issued? you know like a policy detailing situations or speeds at which a chase should be called off?
Or was it smoke and mirrors to get the media off the polices back?

The pursuit policy was reviewed and a few changes were made, mainly around who controls the pursuit and who has the final say about abandonment.
A new training package is also being delivered over the next year or so, it involves theory and practicle assessments of driving skills. Drivers who don't measure up won't be allowed to drive in pursuits.

Have you ever heard of spud skiting that he did a runner, or moaning about a ticket he got? Nope, some of us just put our hand up and say "I cocked up". Others learn nothing with the passage of time and still moan or do not see the danger they put others into by trying to do a runner.
If you asked around, iIdare say there would be few with bikes who have NOT gone over the speed limit, but wise ones pick the time and place.

Mikey, you seem to think that writing speeding tickets is the be all and end all of being a police officer. You are sadly mistaken!
I see no reason to engage in any form of conversation with you, so quit fishing.

actually mikey - there's no cops on here - just riders. tell us more of your get-away stories (or non-get-away as the case probably is) be sure to include dates, times, roads and speeds. no one will use it against you. honest. just like your previous spouting on about how light your sentence is going to be, how wanky the cops are, and how being caught this time won't stop you running from the cops, *won't* be shown to the judge when you go to court

Two years ago I followed a cop up from Taupo to.... Somewhere north of Taupo, and he was sitting on about 145-150kph. I followed at a safe (ish) distance, and it was all good. Seems as though it's a case of do as I say not as I do. :innocent:

You said a mouthful there, it's easy to not make the effort and live 'groundhog day' every day, no ambition, no direction, no life. :buggerd:
It IS hard to keep ahead in life, you've got to have drive and a few plans on what you want to do, if I sat on my arse with my hand out to the Govt when I am capable of work I would have a lot less stress and a lot more time BUT I would not have gone on overseas trips, own a HD, hot-rods, guns, house and tour the country in style etc. ('course the extra time would let me indulge in criminal fund-raising but that's not me style).
In the end I figure I AM better off. :ar15: :ride:

Amen to that mate, i bust my arse at work, i'd be putting in 90 odd hour week at time, just to pay some debt off and keep riding my bike and i AM better off for it, okay i don't have a HD, or any hot rods (very much like a T bucket thou) i don't have guns (just as well, it'd be curtains for cage drivers) shit i don't even have a house (yet) and i tour the country on a TL, so it's hardly style, never been overseas either, went to nelson once though (exciting).
Did i say i was better off  better than the dole thou

But building new a life with her has been one of my greatest achevements. Too be the richest person, doesnt mean you have money. Good on ya Blakamin for being a hardworking bloke. Some people still need to achieve this.
