View Full Version : Took a test ride; now I'm kinda sad

Today I set out for a ride on my trusty wee Volty. Started from Mt Albert, decided to ride north for a random length of time then head home. By the time I was in the 100kph zone just north of the bridge, I was already bored and a bit sick of the effort required to maintain 100kph on my gorgeous little thumper.
So I took a slight detour - off at Esmonde Rd, left at Barry's Pt Rd, into Holeshot. Borrowed a beautiful blue 2003 Triumph Bonneville T100. They told me I could have it for two hours for a test ride. Back on the motorway at Northcote, rode one hour north to Wellsford.
How can a little 250cc commuter ever compete with a lovely blue Trumpy? :crybaby:
The after-market pipes sounded gorgeous, I cruised easily at the speed limit and had plenty of grunt left over to pass on the hills. I met another woman riding the same direction on some kind of cruiser and I could easily keep up with her (and could have overtaken if I felt like it). Cornering was a breeze, so was the slow speed stuff when there was a traffic jam on the Waiwera hill coming home.
Returned the Triumph to Holeshot and got back on my Volty. She felt so tiny by comparison. Just a little featherweight. I do love her dearly but she will never be anything other than a cute little reliable 250cc bike.
Why can't I keep her and just keep adding to the collection? I don't think I'm ready to part with my reliable and loyal little first bike yet. :crybaby:

Fine sentiments, just do what I have and don't sell your first bike! (mind you with me, everything is a "first" bike.... :innocent:)
Keep it and get the next one as well! :devil2:

I wish I had never sold my KR. Alot of people regret selling their first bike. Maybe you should just keep it?...

I feel for you Klingon...
I avoid bike shops like the plague because of that exact same connendrum...and the fact that most of the sales guys know me and know what I like!
Good luck!

My mum also gets attached to her motor vehicles and just can't let them go... She gives them names and then crys when she sells it lol.
Look at it my way instead: It's a bunch of metal bits stuck together with some plastic bits stuck on top and some round rubbery bits and possibly some other bits. When you get a new one, its just the same but looks different and is more fun.
If you keep it, it will cost regos and warrants that you could stick on the nice new bike too!!!
Naa just keep it, it's an easier decision, cos you can sell it later if you really want :D

It's funny how your feelings change once you own the bigger beast.
I sold my first bike thinking that she would be happier on the road than sitting around, jealous of my new mighty cruiser. And, that meant another biker on the road, too :)
Voltys are cool bike, btw, just feels a bit cramped riding them.

Good on you for trying out a new one Klingon, itis so easy to get comfortable on a bike with more power isn't it?
But your first one will always have a special place in your heart.
Take lots of photo's of your Volty, you will have to move on some time, but you will love the new bike too, when it happens.

But surely a TU250 is bigger than a T100 ?!?!?
Is your Volty all recovered from the rear ending it received all those months ago?

I've still got the CBR. Too much sentimental value. Don't think I'll ever be able to bring myself to sell it.

Reality check.
It's like when you wait too long to replace a front tyre.
After you do replace and life is so much better you wonder why you put up with it for so long.
A 2003 T100 would be close to your perfect motorcycle. A volty is a volty.

Yeah Macktheknife and others helped me put it back together and it's almost as good as new. The only sign of its adventures is the fold-marks on its rear guard where Mack panel-beat it back into shape (but that's ok because apparently chicks dig scars :))
Unfortunately I've been left with residual pain in my lower back that restricts my riding position if I'm on the bike for long periods of time. Just goes to show what a moment of inattention by a car driver can do! grrrr...
Oh yeah and a TU250 is definitely bigger than a T100.

Yeah I know. The reason your comment made me want to beat you up is that it's painfully close to the truth.
P.S. Can I borrow $13k till payday?

Funny thing is, I've owned probably well over 100 bikes, from 50cc to 1000cc. But when I look back the ones that I really miss, that put a smile on my face when I recall them, are never the big ones. they;re the little ones. My Bantams, the 50cc Yamahappy, Li'l Ratty (God I miss that insanely happy little fellow) .
Big bikes do stuff well, they go fast, go far and so on. But little bikes are like kittens or puppies, you always feel happy when they're around.

It's all relative. When you're 20 foot tall, a Munch Mammut seems small.

Hang in there Klingon. You'll get your Trumpy.:2thumbsup
Kanny is in exactly the same boat, re owning a Volty and wanting a Bonnie, but I think we might keep her wee Suzi, as I think they are a great little bike also.
