I'll have a set of used Michelin wets 120/70 and 18/67 with me at the track, which are for sale. You can check 'em out and strike a deal if you're keen. I

Well....aparently it's MY rear wet that Drew's talking about. It's munted:shit:. I didn't know there was anything wrong with my rear :oi-grr:, I looked at it earlier this week and it was sitting on a rim, all nice and plump, just how it should be. Drew!!! what have you done to it???

Anyway....thanks Toast, if you could bring it to the track that would be great. As I just may need it if the size will work for me. PM me with the price etc if you like so I can bring some dosh :niceone:

I'd recomend asking sweetly if you can tag on the back of some of the earlier practices as a run in period. No guarantees but VMCC are probably the most accomodating club for that kind of thing. Just don't go out with the 150s and like a cock go carving them up. :D

Yep...they let me scrub some new brake pads in on the warm up lap of F3 last year at manfield...was bloody good of them too!! especially as I'm scared of scrub in sessions!!

With bloody good reason brother! Those friggen scrub sessions are killers. As are Lap Ones and Turn Ones.

Ask Jamie McNair his thoughts next time ya see him at the track.......

I see the forecast is looking better, but the Ducs' would want the wet to make it closer wouldn't they ? Gaz.

Arghh what to do?...............Have been waiting for some tyres to turn up this week but haven't seen them yet,its getting to the point now to make a decision on what to run with.
I really wanted the SC1 cause I know it'll last the day and the grip is outstanding, what I've got here though is my used SC2's,still good but I know they spin up a little in some corners.
My other option is a new SC0 which I'd like to try but am not sure if a)it will last the day and b)how that much grip will affect the bikes handling.

On a cold track, the SC2's should be the better chioce. It works like this...
On a hot track, the harder tyre surface heats up a lot quicker than the carcas, making it "shear" the top layer off. so the hotter the track, the softer the compound. At least that is what I've been told. On a cold track, the harder tyre heats up a bit slower so the whole thing gets a chance to warm up at the same rate.

Turn your warmers up to a higher temp (if you have adjustable ones) and the SC2's are the right tyre for the day.

Yeah Shaun told me that too Drew, thanks I think I'll go with your advice.I'll just hang off a tad more to keep a bigger contact patch.
I was preparing to fuk a tyre just for outright grip and drive just to keep infront of those pesky F2 lads(and lad'esses)

That's the problem, you were gonna have less grip. And once a tyre starts to "shear", it's damn near impossible to stop it. Bloody awfull feeling when they start letting go without warning.

Anyone who's spent time on Taupo with treaded tyres knows what happens, so anyone reading, please bare in mind that a softer tyre, will not give you more grip, just cost you money.

I've run all combinations of pirelli superbike slicks at taupo...found SC0 front and sc1-2 rear to be the best [sc1 would be my pick on the rear in winter]...all the compounds will happily cold shear...but I found less rebound [as in faster rebound] and running a short chain so the rear wheel is further forward solved the problem [it effectivly lowers spring rate when doing that so you have to re-do rear sag or maybe even put a firmer rear spring in depending how much preload is wound on with your current spring]..getting your pressures right for winter racing is quite important for grip and tyre life aswell..as often on cold tracks the tyres will run lower temp that what they were on the warmers..so the presure raise because of heat is less.

If you want some good advice on Pirelli slicks..talk to Dennis Shaw if he is there on the day with Robert Taylor [ohlins camp] he worked alot with andrew stroud using Pirelli slicks and is a very clever man full stop!!

Cheers Poos, looks like my decision has been made for me anyway, just been out in shed to get everything sorted and had a closer look at the sc2 on the back, its kinda a bit low on one side so thats left me with the sc0,its on now so will have to hope for a really hot day:innocent:
Too late to worry about it now I guess,on with the racing:woohoo:

Good to see the weather forecast is lookin better, but just in case it's wrong, does anyone have a useable wet rear 180 or 190 they wanna part with? One of ours is buggered and I'd kinda like to be prepared for the worst.

Poo tried selling me a wet rear a couple of weeks ago

What a great meeting. Huge fields (to me anyway) and the day went extremely smoothly. We had a couple of races with some spectacular bins, but as far as I know, no hospital trips were required.
Much kudos to those who made it possible by marshalling, bossing us around and providing the organisational infrastructure on the day to make this do-able. The last two weeks before the meeting were fairly full-on with people like Shirley (BMW) working hard despite illness, others stepping into unfamiliar roles, and others being pulled out of retirement to fill some gaps. Nigel from The Pacific MCC also stepped up and organised flag marshalls, as our usual crew chief is also recovering from illness.
Much of the team providing the muscle on the day are now from Kiwi Biker, with several stepping up for the first time on the day. Many many thanks to the first timers and the more crusty volunteers. I daren't risk naming everyone for fear of missing someone, but I suspect that I can safely say that all the racers appreciate what you do.

One of the things that surprised me most on sunday was the number of bins on the right-hand kink through the esses coming into the pit straight (T13 of the circuit we used but officially named T16). From memory, there were at least 4 riders who lost it there.

Is it that the right side of the tyre really has no heat in it since T5 and maybe T9 are the last right-handers? Is it very slightly off-camber or does it's sharpness catch you out? Somebody mentioned that the concrete fillets were like ice, perhaps it was that?

Nowhere else were there a consistent series of bins like that ... hmmmm.

Seems to be alot of paint with the different track markings too.
Maybe that matters for the big bikes....?

There are tricky bumps and surface changes combined with a rapid flip-flop direction change. Add in a touch of high speed carried through from the preceding left hander and it's a recipe for tieing a bike up in knots, especialy if some panic braking is thrown in. Quite the challenge.

Stay inside the seal change there, and there is NO problem, go onto the seal change and watch out! The seal change is higher than the standard level of the track ( SO A BIG FAST BUMP) and the grip on the seal change is a total joke, NO TRaction on it at all, but hey, CARS have 4 wheels, so no problem

Exactly my goal everytime through there. The spanner gets thrown in when I have outbraked myself trying to get past someone and miss the best line. Or there is some other inconsiderate bugger there already. Or I've just cocked it up because that's what I do sometime by looking where I shouldn't. Man I love racing. Always learning.

well my day can pretty much be summed up as the worst starts in the history of ever.
I qualified 10th for my first superbike race, but i might as well have not bothered as I was pretty much last by the first corner.
I managed to work my way back to 16th in the first race (swaped a bit of paint with Toast) and 14th in the second for 15th overall (letting the dirt side down, sorry guys)
On the up side, at least I didnt crash, or actually shit myself
