Just a question or so.
Having never been on a race track or done a trackday, or seen them in action.
Would I register for the slow group if I regged? Like the very bottom level?

hmm if its like the manfield ones can start in the beginners & if its too slow you can move up to the next group

Dooly. Sign up for slow. You'll be able to move during the day if you've become too fast for that group. It's quite a big learning experience.

The TT will be a blast on the track. I loved having my speed four on it.

Mate up to you where ya start but can almost guarantee ya you'll be looking to move up to the med by the second shot at it ! If fridays crowd at the TT were anything to go by, the 600 will be fine up in medium ! The fast guys are in just that ! Wont be too many in med that want to play silly buggers in the corners ! You'll be two laps into the slow group and be looking to pass others ! All good for the ego but thats where the shit happens !
Did a whole 20 min in one of the mediums and only passed a couple of bikes and got passed perhaps twice ! Seemed as if everyone was on the same pace !
If you go out on the road on group rides and enjoy playing in the windy bits, class yourself as an ok rider, i'd say book into the med !

Not sure if the 600 will be ready, waiting on a PCIII to arrive and sort out the ratshit fuelling and leaness it has now with the muffler and filter etc, but always have the Speed triple, and have ordered some low clip ons for it, so might be cool to blat around on that if I get my shit together.

Awwww true your in the bay aint ya ! You might be able to put me on to the bloke up there who they say is the magic with pcIII and has the dyno as well !

Ya heard about the new tuneboys ? got put onto them by one of the palmy lads and they spose to be even better than pcIII (as far as more options in the tuneing goes !

The 955 is all im running round in med with and fri was my first in taupo (one at manfield few weeks earlier ! The 600 being lighter would have it all over me in the cornering (then again some of the 400's were too and a few of the 1200's lol) The slow group is all good but really only for L plates Dooly !

The only place I know with the dyno and they sell PCs is Procycles in Napier the Triumph dealer.
Heard about Tuneboys, but thought I'd try the PC and play around with the downloads off their site and see what happens. As it is now I would'nt want to thrash the 600 too much in case it leans out too far and has a meltdown.

You could always just ring procycles and ask how much to do a custom map if there is nothing close to download.

I ran out of gas. I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts! It wasn't my fault, I swear to god!

Since I have a trailer...

...anyone got a car with a towbar?

Devil
10th April 2008, 10:02
Dooly: Sweet talk someone with a dyno to do a base run for you with the air/fuel sensor shoved up your exhaust. That'll at least tell you if you should be worried or not.

If there's a minor blanket issue, a Triumph shop can plug the TT in and richen the mixture over the whole range a tad just to put it on the safe side.

I'd lend you my PCIII but... it's in my speed four :P (funnily enough, it's a PCIII for a TT600)

Even if you're a quick rider I'd say go for the slow group for the first session just to learn the track a bit. It takes a session or two (or more even) to get used to the massive wide road where you can ride right to both edges.

It's really easy to try too hard at first so take it easy and drop those tyre pressures.

Excellent! You riding down or trailering?

Note to people!:
I have a trailer that either way my bike will be on. If you want to take it down with your bike on it, that'd be great. But if you'd like a spot on it and I have to tow it, a fuel contribution would be handy. (Only thing we have with a towbar is a twin turbo VR4, not so good on the gas :( )

Hey all,

Is any one coming to this trackday from Auckland and going back up that day/evening or on Saturday before midday?

If so could I catch a ride with some one, I would chip in for petrol of course, and also are there any Auckland KB'ers out there that have a couch I could crash on? :innocent:

I've just put a deposit on a bike and need to get up to Auckland by Saturday to pick it up

My parents might be able to take me up in the 4wd but won't know until tomorrow... So I thought I'd just find out all my options of getting up there :)

Just a query, if its pissing down on the day do they still run it, and if not are the monies refunded? No money back, the thing to do is buy $500.00 worth and if its raining you dont have to signe on and your money is safe. The slow group aint that slow but go at your own pace, if wet be prepaired to drop it. I would just about have the Ace ready for the track if I had another week. Have fun.:2thumbsup

I'm looking to see if anyone taking their track bike down in a van/trailer has room for a bucket racer? Need to get the bike down from Auckland to Wellington and may already have a connection between Taupo and Wellington - just need the Auckland to Taupo leg taken care of.

Awesome trackday! I had an absolute ball on the new bike.
Few ground clearance issues, scraping the pegs most corners. Didn't have a chance to fit my footpeg riser brackets beforehand so that was kinda expected.

Thanks KiwiTrackDays. Excellent day, well run. Very relaxed!

Had an awesome time at the trackday, first time at Taupo (2nd trackday). Was impressed with how well it was run, plenty of tracktime...well enough for me anyway.Showed me what a Nana rider i am lol...an the bikes going to need a bit of setting up too i think.
Must be a little more careful braking lol on the last lap of the 2nd to last session was determined to get past this dude on a thou (think it was i had trouble staying with him on the straights) and outbraked him coming into the lh at the end of the pit straight ...major lockup an straight ahead into the kitty litter an dropped da bike...luckily only a few small scratchs on lower fairing...picked it up an finished the lap...inexperience is a marvelous thing
Anyway met a few cool dudes...don't know if they're on here didnt ask and had a great day overall...
Whens the next one,you will see me there...:2thumbsup:2thumbsup

I rode down from Auckland on Friday morning, left about 5:20am from west auckland, got to the track around 9am (after gassing up in taupo). It was foggy most of the way, my jacket was fairly soaked by the time I got to taupo.

Trackday was good :)
There seemed to be a high number of bins though, maybe just because there were so many people? I don't think there was anything serious though.

As usual, it wasn't till the last session or so when I started to feel like I was really getting into it again.

I had the camera on the bike, here's a couple of compilations from the various sessions (I was in the mediium group):

It's a security bullet camera I got off trademe plugged into a JXD900 portable media player (it can record AV in), and with a home made microphone as the camera doesn't have a mic on it. The resolution of the JXD900 is only 320x240, but it's good enough for youtube.
